Time for a breather

OK, that's just about it from me today.

I think everybody deserves a rest on Monday after what was a brutal stage nine across seven climbs, three of them hors categories.

I wondered for a while whether we were going to get the levels of drama that many had predicted but the stage delivered in the end.

The 5 live team out in France, OJ Borg, Simon Brotherton and Rob Hayles, will be on the 5 live Facebook page a little later delivering their verdict on the stage. That will also be available as a BeSpoke podcast.

Tuck in - and see you on Tuesday.

Geraint Thomas and Richie Porte weren't the only people to abandon today....

The glamorous life of a cyclist....

A good day for Froome

We're hearing that BMC are reporting that Richie Porte is going to be OK, which is obviously huge news. His crash looked awful.

We've also lost Geraint Thomas today and had something approaching the shake-up at the top of the yellow jersey standings that Chris Froome predicted.

Obviously Thomas and Porte have gone, Alberto Contador is five minutes off the pace after a poor day and Nairo Quintana is two minutes behind the leader.

Did I mention that tomorrow is a rest day? If ever a day off had been fully earned by a group of professional sportsmen....

Froome stays in yellow

General classification after stage nine:

1. Chris Froome (GB/Team Sky) 38hrs 26mins 28secs

2. Fabio Aru (Italy / Astana) +18secs

3. Romain Bardet (France / AG2R) +51secs

4. Rigoberto Uran (Colombia / Cannondale) +55secs

5. Jakob Fuglsang (Denmark / Astana) +1min 37secs

6. Daniel Martin (Ireland / Quick-Step) +1min 44secs

7. Simon Yates (Britain / Orica) +2min 02secs

8. Nairo Quintana (Colombia / Movistar) +2min 13secs

9. Mikel Landa (Spain / Team Sky) +3min 06secs

10. George Bennett (New Zealand / LottoNL) +3min 53secs

Polka dot jersey

A silver lining for France's Warren Barguil, who missed out on a stage winner by an incredibly small margin, as he takes the polka dot jersey as the new leader of the King of the Mountains competition.

Too much for Mark Cavendish today....

Haven't watched today's stage and 100% won't be after reading some of my mates have been hurt. Really hope all who crashed today are ok.

Broken collarbone for G

Just had a message from 5 live producer Gemma Sterba, who tells me that Sky have confirmed Geraint Thomas has a broken collarbone.

A real shame for Thomas, who of course wore yellow at the start of the race.

Chris Froome warming down. Cannot see Fabio Aru though.........

Chapeau indeed...

First win since 2015 - Rigoberto Uran looks ecstatic as he stands on the podium.

Chris holdstock: wow Uran! Last few km's with a broken derailleur. Chapeau that man!

Some guys have all the luck..

stephengenockey: gutted for Dan Martin. Would have been sitting nicely in top 3 only for getting caught by Porte.

Dean Moffatt: glad I'm off work today, that's a proper cycle race right there! Need tomorrow off to recover!

'It was so slippery out there'

Dan Martin: "Richie lost it on one corner - it was so slippery, I guess the organisers got what they wanted. It was so slippery under the trees.

"I was very, very lucky to get away as lightly as I did."

Froome stays in yellow

Froome will get four bonus seconds for finishing third.

Fabio Aru is now second and Romain Bardet third.

After Aru tried to make a move on him when Froome had a mechanical earlier I imagine bantz will be at a premium.

James Mackenzie: At work but unable to take my eyes off tour updates

Has Alberto Contador finished yet? Probably but he's not had a good day.

Dean Laccohee: That day will go down in Tour history. Incredible stuff

Rob Hayles

Former GB cyclist at the Tour de France

That was worth waiting for.

Lots of teams issuing twitter corrections - all now handing the stage victory to Cannondale-Drapac rider Rigoberto Uran.

Warren Barguil thought he'd won it - plenty of teams tweeted that he had - but the evidence of the photo finish suggests otherwise.

Warren Barguil

Uran wins the stage!

I think!

Finish at stage nine of the Tour De France

Warren Barguil with the stage win - crying his eyes out - Chris Froome finished third.

Photo finish....

Jakob Fuglsang leads them out - great sprint. Warren Barguil and Rigoberto Uran neck and neck at the end.....

500m left

Chris Froome leading them out....

1km to go

Chris Froome in the lead, lots of twists and turns in the run-in.

1.5km to go

Will someone try to go off the front?

2km to go

And now there are six - but no cat and mouse, this is about a race to the line, all about time with GC contenders in their wake on the road.

Not rating Romain Bardet's chances of staying away.

Closing the gap

Less than 10 seconds.....can Romain Bardet hold on? The gap is coming down. Bardet looks over his shoulder and can see his pursuers.

4km to go

Man, this looks like tough, tough work.

Nairo Quintana, dropped on the last climb, is trying to make up ground. He is in a group with Dan Martin, who was involved in the crash that ended Richie Porte's Tour.

It is cloudy, brooding weather. It has been a brutal stage that has claimed two big names in Geraint Thomas and Richie Porte.

Bardet currently third on GC. Can he hold out? He has a 14-second lead and 5km to go.

We are absolutely blasting to the finish line - all five of the group chasing Romain Bardet taking turns on the front.

6km to go.

elwyn Rees: carnage on tour. Hope Richie Porte is ok. What drama

8.6km to go

Rigoberto Uran's gears have sort of given up on him - he is having to crank a massive one. That's got to hurt.

Romain Bardet has a 20-second advantage. This is top racing.

Behind Bardet is a group that comprises Chris Froome, Rigo Uran, Fabio Aru and Jakob Fuglsang.

Warren Barguil is with them too.

Romain Bardet - sniffing a 10-second stage bonus and a third Tour stage win - moves away from Warren Barguil with 11km to go.

Warren Barguil and Romain Bardet are together now - two Frenchmen keen for a stage win.
