Tottenham other Group J opponents, Anderlecht and Monaco, drew 1-1 in Belgium. Lacina Traore equalised for the Ligue 1 side in the 85th minute.

In Group L, Aritz Aduriz scored twice as Athletic Bilbao came back from a goal down to beat Augsburg 3-1.

In Group K, Germany striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar also scored twice as Schalke eased to a 3-0 at Cyprus side APOEL.

And in Group G, Yevhen Seleznyov scored seconds before to full-time whistle to earn Dnipro a point against Serie A side Lazio.

"The most important thing is to get the three points, it was the target before the game and we did well after conceding the penalty. We started the game too slowly and after conceding, we picked up our level and came back into the game.

Tottenham 3-1 Qarabag

Spurs are in action again on Sunday when they host Crystal Palace. Having won just once in the league this season, they'll be looking to grab maximum points against the Eagles.

Earlier, we saw Liverpool held to a 1-1 draw by Bordeaux in France.

It was a solid performance from us. We were unfortunate to give away the first goal but it was a good overall display. They made us work for the win - they're not a bad side. They did well. I'm happy for Son that he got two goals and that I played a part. It's always good to help the team.

Tottenham 3-1 Qarabag

Qarabag can go home with their heads held high, they'll cause Monaco and Anderlecht plenty of problems in this group.

Flashes of brilliance from the Azerbaijan champions, but they are ultimately beaten by Son Heung-min's double and Erik Lamela's dink.

Spurs will be happy enough with that, after a shocker of a start.

Tottenham 3-1 Qarabag

Dele Alli almost caps his wonderful night off with a goal. He shows lovely footwork to make his way into the box, but the shot dribbles through to Ibrahim Sehic.

Michel gets a yellow after impeding Dele Alli on the counter attack.

Max Baggins-Craig:  What an absolute peach of a goal from Lamela, it was only a matter of time, great stuff Erik, get in !!!

Tottenham 3-1 Qarabag

One minute to play, Spurs have this one in the (Qara) bag.

Bookings for Rashad Sadygov and Dele Alli in the aftermath of that goal. Both players involved in a little argy-bargy.

It was lovely composure from Lamela. That should do the Argentine's confidence a lot of good.

GOAL - Tottenham 3-1 Qarabag

Erik Lamela (86 mins)

Gorgeous!

Shouldn't laugh but this is quite amusing, Captain Rashad Sadygov makes a good sliding challenge but is attacked by cramp when he gets up.

Harry Kane picks the ball off him and puts Erik Lamela through, who waits for Ibrahim Sehic to go down, before dinking the ball over his head.

Beauriful!

No laughing matter for Qarabag though.

YELLOW CARD

Tottenham 2-1 Qarabag

My man Ibrahim Sehic is booked by the referee, rather harshly. It looks like he's been done for taking a goal kick outside his six-yard box. Sehic smiles in disbelief. Five to go.

YELLOW CARD

Maksim Medvedev is a lucky boy! He brings down Spurs man Clinton N'Jie who is through on goal, but only receives a yellow card.

Samuel Armenteros nearly gets on the end of a ball into the box but Spurs manage to scramble clear. Seven minutes to go.

It was worth a go for Danny Rose. Quite an acute angle and he flashed it across the far post.

Tottenham 2-1 Qarabag

Tom Carroll puts Erik Lamela in, who rounds the keeper and pops the ball home, but the Argentine is offside.

CLOSE!

Tottenham 2-1 Qarabag

Ooh! Danny Rose with an effort - Roberto Carlos-esque - from the angle, but it flashes wide.

Into the last 10 minutes, can Spurs get a third? Will Qarabag draw level?

Scott Newson:  Forget Lokomotiv Moscow, surely Molde beating Fenerbahce 3-1 in Turkey is the result of the night?

SUBSTITUTION

Tottenham 2-1 Qarabag

Double change for Qarabag, last throw of the dice. Dani Quintana and Afran Ismayilov off, Alharbi El Jadeyaoui and former Birmingham man Michel enter the fray.

Ansi Agolli with a pot shot from the left, takes a nick off a Spurs defender but into the hands of Hugo Lloris.

Not much for Harry Kane to feed off so far. This will make it six club games without a goal. A barren run. Not good for the old goals to games ratio.

It's still finely poised. We have to respect the opponents and their passing play. Tottenham must not get caught out and get done by the sucker-punch.

SUBSTITUTION

Tottenham 2-1 Qarabag

Spurs make their last change. Eric Dier comes off and Harry Winks comes on. He is 19-year-old, but looks about 12.

Elsewhere in Europe

Aritz Aduriz's header for Athletic Bilbao  has made it 1-1 against Augsburg in the Group L match.

In the group's other game, Serbian side  Partizan lead AZ Alkmaar 2-1.

Lokomotiv Moscow are set for the result of the night - they are winning 3-1 at Sporting Lisbon in Group H. Aleksandr Samedov has scored twice.

CLOSE!

Tottenham 2-1 Qarabag

Like I said, Qarabag are still in this. Ansi Agolli's cross is headed goalwards by Dani Quintana, but it's easy for Hugo Lloris. 20 minutes to go.

The arrival of Harry Kane is imminent...

Tottenham 2-1 Qarabag

Loving the goalkeeping of Qarabag's Ibrahim Sehic. I think he's been taught at the 'Rene Higuita School of Keeping'.

He needs no encouragement to come out and meet a ball that's been pumped forward. Very confident, very decisive. Same with his kicking, he knows exactly where he's putting that ball before it even arrives to him.

Any Premier League scouts in tonight?

The interesting thing looking forward to Sunday is who will be selected against the speed merchants of Crystal Palace.

Tottenham play sixth-place Palace at White Hart Lane at 13:30 BST on Sunday.
