That's all from the underwhelming Manchester Derby then.

Don't forget you can follow the game at Anfield right here, and I'll be back next week.

Until then!

Richard Darko: A fantastic tactical game. Really enjoyed it . England needs to learn the game properly because you are tactically handicapped

Andrew Wilson: Rooney paying price for LVG philosophy. No support or chances, told to stay central to occupy CBs. Need to change tactics

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal on BBC Match of the Day; "I am proud of my players. They have been concentrating and focussed for 90 minutes.

"We didn't create much but City adapted their line-up to our line-up. It was tough.

"We had a long journey back from Moscow so I am very pleased."

John Dunthorne: Real concerns about Daniel Sturridge's future, told he had a slight knock, but still missing, how will he fair in Klopp's pressing style?

Chris Augarde: Southampton win 2-1 Pelle, Tadic and Lallana score.

Alex McKenzie: A few minutes in and this is already more enjoyable than the Manchester snoozefest.

LvG in the desert

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal: "It was a very tough game for both sides. We were unlucky, they were lucky.

"We had 90 minutes control of the game against a side like Manchester City. I cannot complain. But you want to win and we did not.

"We should have had a penalty on Ander Herrera. It is easy to see for me but I have a replay. The referee has one second.

"I always say we need the modern technology but I am the only one in the desert calling for it."

KICK-OFF

Liverpool 0-0 Southampton

It's kicked off at Anfield for Jurgen Klopp's home league debut.

You can follow that game here.

It's good to know that Manuel Pellegrini found that dull as well...

An ugly game

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini: "We are back at the top of the table.

"It was a very tactical game. I prefer to play in another way but we defended well.

"Unfortunately for the fans it was not a very attractive game. We are two creative teams but we could not do it today."

'I don't like to play this way'

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini: "It is a good point. If you can't win, then don't lose it. People have said that we can't defend and in the second half we did very well.

"We lost so much possession of the ball and we had to concentrate. United had two late chances but overall it was close.

"I am satisfied with a point but I don't like to play this way."

Mobile MOTD: Altrincham boss Lee Sinnott's FA Cup team talk

Mobile Match of the Day went access all areas at Altrincham FC for their FA Cup final qualifying round tie with Chester FC on Saturday.

Filmed on a mobile phone, Mobile MOTD lets you walk out onto the pitch with the players, go into the dressing room, talk to fans and chat to the chairman after the game.

As a sneak preview here is Robins team boss Lee Sinnott giving his pre-match team talk, but there will be a full edit of the whole day’s action on the BBC Sport website later on Sunday.

So no Rooney, no Di Maria or Fellaini? I'm not sure you've helped him out there Ashwin...

What does Wayne Rooney do? He brings in a shed load of revenue into the club through merchandise, sponsorship deals, etc, especially from places like Asia and Africa where 99.9% of United fans are based and he is worshipped like a God in a manner not even close to what we have in the UK. No Rooney, less money to spend on luxuries such as Fellaini and Di Maria.

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling: "It is a bit of a disappointment but I feel like we played well over the 90 minutes.

"It's one of those. If we can play like that on a regular basis we will win more than we lose."

'We don't want praise, we want points'

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart: "It's a performance that I'm glad we have in the locker but I'd prefer it if we didn't have to use it. We came wanting three points but respect to Manchester United, we had to defend well and limited them to two half chances.

"We don't want praise, we want points. We are back on top of the league now and we can hopefully kick on."

Hari Sri: Disappointing. Utd couldn't even beat City without Aguero/Silva. In all fairness, Utd didn't have Rooney.

Matt Harding: Utd still in a good position. Having had some very tricky games only two pts from top. Martial proving his worth.

Tim Ravenscroft: Two things that may see Utd fans turning against LVG; Rooney's lack of form and LVG refusing to deal with Rooney's lack of form.

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany: "I don't know how it looked from the outside but it didn't feel like a dynamic derby.

"Both teams looked defensively solid.

"Everyone knows how much this game means to me. I was disappointed to be left out of the team but it is all about opinions. There is no problem with me and the manager."

Mark Lawrenson

BBC Radio 5 live at Old Trafford

"There was no real great passion in the game and never roused into life. It felt a bit like a pre-season friendly. City never really looked like scoring while United hit the bar, but that was about it."

FULL-TIME

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

Nil-nil. Football the loser. City go top of the Premier League but will have to play much better than that to win the thing.

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

City's overall pass completion is 72%. That is not vintage.

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

Mark Lawrenson

BBC Radio 5 live at Old Trafford

"That was probably the only real save that Joe Hart has made but it was world class given the concentration level required. City will get a point, but they will be a little fortunate in the sense that they have invited United on to them. I've not seen a derby game where there have been so many misplaced passes - and not ones where players under pressure. Both managers would probably have taken a point before kick-off."

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

Morgan Schneiderlin takes a booking for taking out Kevin de Bruyne and we are into three minutes of added time. City going back on top remember.

GREAT SAVE!

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

The last five minutes have seen the game come alive! Marouane Fellaini heads the ball down, Chris Smalling swivels to get a shot off but he doesn't catch it properly and Joe Hart is able to get down and make the save.

Mark Lawrenson

BBC Radio 5 live at Old Trafford

"That was brilliant from Anthony Martial and also from Jesse Lingard. Totally out of keeping with the rest of the match, mind."

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

What a ball that is! Aleksander Kolarov whips in a fantastic free-kick, Nicolas Otamendi is close to meeting it on the volley but Wayne Rooney does really well to get his body in the way. Some praise for Wayne Rooney! There you go...

"A big chance for Manchester United. A good ball from Martial and it was just steered on to the bar."

HITS THE WOODWORK

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

And out of nothing, almost the winner! A long ball over the top from Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard makes a cracking run in from the right, he gets there before Joe Hart and clips a shot against the top of the crossbar!

SUBSTITUTION

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

Matteo Darmian is on for Antonio Valencia who appeared to have picked up an injury. Jesus Navas has a shot - I suppose that could count as a shot on target? - as he floats one at David de Gea from 45 yards out.

City throw on youngster Kelechi Iheanacho for Wilfried Bony.

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

There are a lot of sitting players on the pitch now. Manchester United are yet to hit the big ball toward Marouane Fellaini.

"It's a positive move to bring on Fellaini, Schweinsteiger has been sat in an armchair throughout the afternoon. Martial should be through the middle for me, he's the only player who seems like he wants to to make it happen. The problem is stuck out on the left he's not seeing enough of the ball."

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

It's got to go direct for Manchester United now. Anthony Martial beats Bacary Sagna on the left but instead of whipping it in he tries to go one more and he loses out.

SUBSTITUTION - FELLAINI TIME

Here he is, Marouane Fellaini on for Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Jesse Lingard is the best player on the pitch. He again finds space out wide and beats his man but the move eventually breaks down. In the dugout Louis van Gaal breaks a glass emergency case and frees Plan B from storage...

Man Utd 0-0 Man City

As it stands, Manchester City are going top of the table.

Jesse Lingard plays a smart pass through the lines, Wayne Rooney tries to find a team-mate on his shoulder but it's easily cut out.
