Also in the hat

Eighth-tier Northwich Victoria will be in Monday's draw for the second round, having held National League club Boreham Wood to a 1-1 draw.

League Two side Mansfield held League One Oldham to a 0-0 stalemate, while Dagenham & Redbridge and Morecambe will also face a replay after a goalless draw at Victoria Road.

That means of the 29 FA Cup ties played so far in round one, only three have finished level.

FT: Sheffield Utd 3-0 Worcester City

Sheffield United v Worcester

Worcester City, who dumped out 1987 winners Coventry City last season, fell to a 3-0 defeat at League One Sheffield United.

The National League North side fell behind when Jose Baxter scored from the penalty spot and further goals from Conor Sammon and Kieron Freeman sent Nigel Adkins' men through.

Latics lose but Pompey prevail

It's been quite a fall from grace for 2013 FA Cup winners Wigan Athletic.

Two relegations in three years means they entered the competition at the first-round stage this year. They also exited it at the first-round stage.

Local rivals Bury thumped the Latics 4-0 with goals from Tom Pope, Danny Mayor, Nathan Cameron and Leon Clarke.

There was better news for 2008 winners and 2010 finalists Portsmouth.

Pompey hadn't won an FA Cup match since beating Spurs in the 2010 semi-final but a double from Adam McGurk was enough for them against non-league Macclesfield.

FT: Wealdstone 2-6 Colchester

Wealdstone briefly led Colchester in the first half but four goals from Macauley Bonne helped the League One side cruise to a comfortable victory in the end.

FT: Cambridge Utd 1-0 Basingstoke Town

Cambridge United earned a narrow victory over National League South side Basingstoke in their first game under caretaker manager Joe Dunne.

'I don't want to make excuses'

FT: Coventry 1-2 Northampton

We're out of the FA Cup, so I'm obviously disappointed. I don't want to stand here and make excuses: we had a reasonably strong side here today. I think, ultimately our inability to defend crosses was our downfall.

Good to turn my phone and see that @altrinchamfc are at it again. Cracking stuff #FACup

BBC Sport presenter Mark Chapman was pleased to see Altrincham claim their 17th FA Cup victory over Football League opposition.

'I was going to pass it' - Frear

FT: AFC Wimbledon 1-2 Forest Green Rovers

I was going to pass it but then I ducked inside, put my head down and hit it. We'll enjoy tonight. Then it is back to basics and trying to stay top of the league.

'We didn't have enough today' - Johnson

Altrincham 1-0 Barnsley

I have to give congratulations to Altrincham. They have beaten us fair and square and we didn't have enough today. The players have to look deeply at themselves and turn this run around.

Barnsley boss Lee Johnson is being very magnanimous in defeat but whether he'll be in the job next week remains to be seen.

'Our work rate was phenomenal'

FT: AFC Wimbledon 1-2 Forest Green Rovers

I'm very chuffed. It is just a great occasion. We said before the game we want to see how far we have come as a football club and a team. Our work rate was phenomenal.

'One of my more important goals' - Reeves

FT: Altrincham 1-0 Barnsley

It's probably one of the most important ones. We haven't had much luck in the FA Cup over the last few years so we thought it was important to get a run going.

Damian ReevesAltrincham striker

Today's goal against Barnsley was Reeves' 151st goal for Altrincham.

The winner takes it all

Altrincham 1-0 Barnsley

Joy for Altrincham, but could that be the end of Lee Johnson's tenure as Barnsley boss?

The former Oldham boss took over at Oakwell in February and initially oversaw a real upturn in results.

However, they've struggled this season and today's defeat by non-league opposition, added to the seven successive losses in the league, might spell the end for the 34-year-old.

Upset watch

National League side Altrincham pulled off the biggest upset of the day as they earned a 1-0 victory over Barnsley, who sit 45 places above Lee Sinnott's team in the football pyramid.

Three more League One clubs fell to League Two opposition, as Blackpool were beaten 2-0 by Barnet, Gillingham lost 3-0 to Stevenage, and Coventry were knocked out by a lower-league side in the first round for the second year in a row with a 2-1 defeat by Northampton.

Forest Green Rovers were 2-1 winners at League Two Wimbledon, while fellow National League club Eastleigh beat 10-man League One strugglers Crewe 1-0.

And seventh-tier outfit Stourbridge booked their place in the second round with a 2-1 win at National League Dover.

'This club is alive and kicking'

This club has had a rich history in this competition over the years. It's been a bit barren over the last few years so it's nice to give something back to our fans and show people that this club is alive and kicking.
