That's the end of this live text, thanks for joining us today.

Valencia are back in action on Wednesday as they host Granada in the Spanish Cup. Barcelona are at home to Espanyol later that day.

Real Madrid won't be in midweek action as they were disqualified from the cup as you might remember.

What does that do to the table?

Real Madrid are now four points behind leaders Atletico Madrid - this was their game in hand. They are two points off Barca, having played a game more.

Valencia - with their third draw in four La Liga games under Gary Neville - move up one place to 10th.

If only we could have had a few more minutes. Fantastic ending to the game. But it's over now.

Oh my. Valencia break and Alvaro Negredo should win it - he's unmarked - but he fires straight at keeper Keylor Navas and then Andre Gomes fires the rebound wide.

At the other end Gareth Bale smashes over.

Real Madrid almost snatch a winner as their third corner of a run comes in but they just can't turn it in.

It's now officially a series of corners for Real Madrid.

Gary Neville looks like he`s bringing some English drama with him to Spain! What a game. #bbceurofooty #VALRMA

Corner to Real. Late drama?

Three minutes added on at Mestalla.

It's all Valencia now and a cross goes all the way through to Real keeper Keylor Navas.

Valencia make their final change. Javi Fuego comes on for Rodrigo de Paul.

Gary Neville is really going for this now. Real Madrid haven't even kicked off yet and Valencia's manager brings on striker Alvaro Negredo for midfielder Dani Parejo.

Valencia strike back immediately

Valencia are level within seconds. Rodrigo de Paul's cross is headed across goal by his fellow Rodrigo and Paco Alcacer heads past Keylor Navas from about three yards out. Magic.

Has Bale hit Real winner?

Toni Kroos whips in a free-kick and Gareth Bale puts a fantastic glancing header past keeper Jaume Domenech.

Valencia bring on former Bolton loanee Rodrigo for Lucas Orban. That's an attacking midfielder for a left-back. Is Gary Neville going all out for a first La Liga win? Brave.

Paco Alcacer almost finds Rodrigo de Paul with a through ball but Luka Modric just cuts it out. De Paul was in there if the Croat didn't nail that interception.

Real are on the rocks here.

This game is really starting to open up and Luka Modric's shot from just outside the box is saved by Jaume Domenech, who started the season as Valencia's fourth choice keeper.

Real Madrid keeper Keylor Navas thinks he has all the time in the world as the ball comes to him. Valencia striker Paco Alcacer charges towards it and the keeper gets to it first. Just. Very, very casual from Navas there.

Just under 20 minutes to go for Gary Neville to find a first win as Valencia manager. And what a win it would be.

Gary Neville

Just seen that not-penalty incident again, maybe it wasn't as clear as I thought as Ronaldo, the keeper and defender Aymen Abdennour came together. Anything could have happened.

While I'm typing that up, Real Madrid are down to 10 men as Mateo Kovacic is sent off for a lunging tackle on Joao Cancelo. Scenes.

Red card for Real Madrid

Valencia escape here. Cristiano Ronaldo lets the ball go past him and chases onto it - he appears to be brought down by keeper Jaume Domenech, who escapes. Somehow.

Real Madrid bring off striker Karim Benzema for Lucas Vazquez, who is more of a winger type. There are whistles from the crowd although you suspect it's Valencia fans unhappy at him for scoring against then - rather than away support.

Marcelo's cross meets Cristiano Ronaldo, who chests the ball down and then half-volleys over from 20 yards. The game is coming to life now.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Mateo Kovacic gets the ball in midfield for Real Madrid and bursts into the box but then seems to overestimate his own pace as he knocks the ball on ahead of himself and Valencia's keeper smothers it.

Valencia midfielder Andre Gomes has a go from just outside the box which Keylor Navas tips over. It might have moved in the air as the Costa Rican didn't look too comfortable.

Valencia's Dani Parejo, with 17, has scored more goals than any other midfielder in La Liga since the start of last season. In second place is James Rodriguez (16), who is on Real Madrid's bench.

Believe it or not we've had our first save of the game, Real Madrid right-back Danilo's shot is straight at Jaume Domenech.

Half an hour to go. Would this be a disastrous result for either side?

Gary Neville and Rafa Benitez

Moments later, Antonio Barragan gets himself booked. He slides straight into Sergio Ramos in the opposition area and then has a little moan at the referee.

Marcelo runs straight into Antonio Barragan and wants a penalty. The pair then clash and former Liverpool reserve Barragan throws himself to the ground.

Textbook La Liga stuff there.

Danilo does great down the Real Madrid right but none of his team-mates expected him to do so well so nobody is there to meet his cross.

Have some faith in him, lads.

Valencia looks more hungry, sharp and faster than Real. There will be no way back for Benitez if Madrid lose this #bbceurofooty

Real Madrid have started this second half well and Gareth Bale runs into the box and the ball breaks to Marcelo whose shot is blocked.

Real Madrid get a free-kick - Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale both stand over it.

Bale takes this one but he just punts it over the crossbar. Poor effort.

By not committing, Gary Neville has got his Get Out of Jail Free Card and can just walk away if things go south at Valencia #bbceurofooty

#bbceurofooty Neville needs time he has the ability to be a great head coach let's give him time.

Second half is under way. Can Gary Neville find his first La Liga win?
