You can certainly dream...

McClaren out of his depth. Time to appeal to Jose mourinho's sentimental side from time with Bobby robson #wecandream #nufc #bbcfootball

FT: Watford 0-0 Chelsea

Quique Sanchez Flores speaking to BBC Sport:

"It was very hard to score against Chelsea, we had to stop the offences. They are very physical also but we’re happy with the performance and in the second half it was hard to stop Chelsea but I think we deserved this point."

"Of course, he’s one of our leaders. We support Heurelho, he’s a great leader in the dressing room and on the pitch. I think the career of Heurelho is very long, when someone plays at the high level it must mean they’re a good goalkeeper."

"It’s a very funny journey we’re in the top half, playing with confidence."

"We were never really in it"

Everton 3-0 Newcastle

Newcastle boss Steve McClaren speaking to BBC Sport: “In the first half we were never really in it. The crowd and the players here were nervous but we did not capitalise on that. Unfortunately we then had injuries in defence which meant we had to reshuffle.

"The new signings will take time to gel. At West Brom we will have 52,000 cheering us on and we will have to show a reaction. We have shown we can react before. Fans want to see fight and we need to show it on Saturday.”

Player reaction

FT: Watford 0-0 Chelsea

Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes speaking to BBC Sport:

"I believe the goalkeeper has to do things like that [make key saves]. We got a point today against a very good side and I was glad to make a difference.

"I believe we dominated the first half; they are a very good side and getting better all the time. It’s difficult to say [we should win] because they’re below us because they’re such a great side.

"We have to be competitive, it doesn’t matter which team we play, we have to be competitive and that’s what we’re trying."

'Laughable'

FT: Watford 0-0 Chelsea

Troy Deeney on Diego Costa spat speaking to BT Sport:

“It’s new age football, a little touch and everyone goes down. The ref spoke to him, and then spoke to him again and I just asked the ref was he going to book him. If he played in Sunday league he’d probably get laughed at.”

Manager reaction

FT: Watford 0-0 Chelsea

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink on Diego Costa:

"It was clear and it front of our eyes, Costa was punched in the back and then he stumbled and brought his hands to his head. I was trying to protect my player because he was provoked .

"This league is physical, when you see our central defenders and our opponents central defenders. He [Costa] likes to go physical but he must do within the rules. Some times players get physical and he has to get used to that."

On John Terry:

"First we’ll see him often this season, what the future brings is up to him and the club."

Neville out? Not if it's down to him

Neville: one of the most painful experiences I've had in football.

Gary Neville asked whether he's considering resigning. One word answer: no.

Remember, Gary Neville's Valencia lost 7 (SEVEN) - 0 to Barcelona this evening.

"It was a mature performance"

Everton 3-0 Newcastle

Roberto Martinez speaking to BBC Sport about the performance: "It is fair to say we are learning from painful lessons. We started the game well and were strong in all departments. There have been times where opponents score too easily when they come into a game but we were compact today.

The second goal was decisive. Scoring the second goal made it a different game and allowed us to control things. We showed a mature way of playing. Back to back clean sheets now and the team has the intent to please our fans and show what we can do."

Like the salute Gerard...

"Phenomenal footballer, phenomenal person"

Everton 3-0 Newcaste

Roberto Martinez speaking to BBC Sport on Ross Barkley: "100 games in the league at 22 is not easy to achieve and he is playing a big role in the team. Phenomenal footballer, phenomenal person.  He took responsibility with both penalties and showed how he is an assured, technical footballer."

Jason Wise: Tonight's News: Minnows #Chelsea continue to slowly pull away from the relegation battle.

I reckon most of the attention could be in Spain Jason, like your style though...

Phil McNulty

For all the money Newcastle United have spent, you had to think someone like Charlie Austin had their name written all over him - and £4m.

I'm sure Austin would have buried that chance Aleksandar Mitrovic missed Phil...

Oh dear, oh dear

Gary Neville's humilation is over.

His Valencia side lose 7-0  to Barcelona in the semi-final first leg of the Copa del Rey.

Sacked in the morning?

See how it happened here.

Brilliant Barkley

FT: Everton 3-0 Newcastle

How good does Ross Barkley look at the moment? Very is the answer.

The 22-year-old was making his 100th Premier League appearanc, becoming the second youngest player to reach this milestone for Everton after Michael Ball.

The best is yet to come? Frightening.

FT: Watford 0-0 Chelsea

Chelsea had the most of the ball, especially in the second half, but Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Homes was simply too good.

"Thankful for a clean sheet"

Everton 3-0 Newcastle

Ross Barkley speaking to BBC Sport: "The clean sheet is a boost for the whole team and will give us confidence. We are focusing on each game as it comes trying to get three points. I’ve scored panenka penalties on the training ground before."

Important win for Everton & Roberto Martinez - clean sheet & finally Joel Robles might be at the start of that long overdue run in goal.

Taxi for Neville?

"Barkley the best player on the pitch"

FT: Everton 3-0 Newcastle

BBC Radio 5 Live

Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam on BBC Radio 5 live:  "Barkley deserves that as he has been the best player on the pitch tonight.”

At Watford it finished goalless against Chelsea.

FULL-TIME

Everton 3-0 Newcastle

A miserable night for Newcastle.

Everton were head and shoulders the better team.

GOAL - Everton 3-0 Newcastle

Ross Barkley

Now that is just taking the mick.

Outrageous from Ross Barkley. The England man strolls up to the ball on the penalty spot and dinks it into the net, with goalkeeper Rob Elliot looking very, very foolish.

Brilliant.

RED CARD FOR NEWCASTLE

Everton 2-0 Newcastle

Jamaal Lascelles is sent off for tripping Ross Barkley in the penalty area.

Steve McClaren reacts
Reuters

A lot of criticism for McClaren and Newcastle coming in now...

Dan Bell: Taxi for McClaren, out of his depth.

Craig Spittle: Why is McClaren so bombproof? Such a parlous, perilous position for Newcastle yet he's apparently secure in his role. Strange

Superbayrton: Does make you wonder who Newcastle need to sign to stay up... Millions spent and no real improvement.

Everton 2-0 Newcastle

Ross Barkley is loving it.

The Everton man is in the mood for more as he drives forward and sees his shot deflected just wide.

No mistake.

Newcastle are staying in the bottom three as Ross Barkley rolls home from the penalty spot.

PENALTY EVERTON

Everton 1-0 Newcastle

What a daft challenge.

Aaron Lennon cuts inside from the right and, inside the penalty area, Rolando Aarons clumsily trips him. Clear penalty.

Everton 1-0 Newcastle

It may not have been a classic but the one standout of the evening so far is the performance of Ross Barkley.

The Everton man has been head and shoulders better than any other attacker out there.

Are you watching Mr Hodgson?

At the other end Aleksandar Mitrovic tries to get on the end of a long ball but doesn't.

"Newcastle can nick a goal"

Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam on BBC Radio 5 live: "The story of Everton’s season has been going in front and then conceding goals so if Newcastle can stay on top they will feel they can nick a goal."

Everton 1-0 Newcastle

Without wanting to curse anyone here.

Newcastle do not look like scoring and nor do Everton...

Seven goals in the last seven minutes then?

Not the best is it Jamie...

Everton 1-0 Nwcastle

Everton fans will be hoping striker Romelu Lukaku isn't badly injured.

He was struggling with a dodgy back in the first half and was replaced by Arouna Kone at the break.

Without him, they look pretty toothless in attack.
