Right it is time for us to say adios, auf wiedersehen or, if you prefer, a simple goodbye.

Join us again tomorrow when we will find out the identity of the next two teams to dive into the Champions League last-eight.

Chelsea or Paris St-Germain? Zenit St Petersburg or Benfica? Take your pick. See you then!

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 2-0)

Tough match against a very good Roma side. On to the next round @ChampionsLeague 👍🏻 #halamadrid

Wolfsburg 1-0 Gent (agg 4-2)

Belgian champions Gent had never reached the Champions League 'proper' before this season - and they have enjoyed a memorable debut campaign.

Wins over Valencia, Lyon and Zenit St Petersburg - all seasoned European stalwarts - stuck them in the knockout phase at the first attempt.

Something for Leicester City to emulate next season perhaps...

Goodbye Gent

Wolfsburg 1-0 Gent (agg 4-2)

Our incredible @ChampionsLeague campaign ends here, but what a ride it has been. Thank you everybody for the fantastic support #WolGnt #UCL

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

It is easy for us average Sunday League players to sit here and say Roma winger Mohamed Salah should have bagged a couple tonight.

But how about some praise for Madrid keeper Keylor Navas? Go on then.

The Costa Rican stood up to everything thrown at him by the Italian visitors to keep his EIGHTH consecutive Champions League clean sheet.

That's just one game away from equalling Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann's record of nine in 2005-06.

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

61 - Cristiano Ronaldo has now scored in 61 different Champions League matches; more than any other player (Raul 56, Messi 51). Relentless.

Sloppy Salah

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Roma winger Mohamed Salah might find himself sat on his own on the team bus back to the airport. The former Chelsea winger was the main culprit in Roma's misdemeanours, missing three great chances to put the Italians ahead.

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Oh Roma, Roma, Roma. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that away dressing room now. Giallorossi gaffer Luciano Spalletti is probably ordering them back onto the Bernabeu pitch for some extra shooting practice...

The Italian side missed FOUR golden chances when the score was still 0-0...

And joining the 10-time European champions in the last eight is a team that has never previously played in the knockout stage...Wolfsburg.

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

The first team to have their name scrawled on a piece of paper and thrown into the Champions League quarter-final draw....Real Madrid.

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Roma are still having a go - as they have all night. But if you don't take your chances...

Madrid keeper Keylor Navas punches clear an away corner, seconds before a stretching Edin Dzeko almost reaches another cross.

Story of Roma's night right there...

INJURY TIME

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Roma's race in this season's Champions League is almost done. Three more minutes for Real Madrid to get over the line. They've already lapped the Italians....

HITS THE WOODWORK

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Tonight is not the night for Roma. Right-winger Mohamed Salah, for the umpteenth time tonight, uses his electric pace to good effect down the right, flashing a low ball across the Madrid goal. There lies his team-mate Diego Perotti, whose first-time shot cracks the left-hand post.

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Roma midfielder Seydou Keita is removed for the final few minutes, giving the Madridistas a free hit to jeer a former Barcelona player. Poor fella.

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Cristiano Ronaldo's appetite for goals is insatiable. His movement is still as sharp as a brand-new stanley knife, slicing into space inside the Roma box as he tries to meet Lucas Vazquez's cross. But a last-gasp lunge from Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas nicks the ball away from Ronaldo's toe.

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Madrid know they are home and hosed. A third would be icing on the cake, but Toni Kroos' long-distance shot is straight down the throat of Roma keeper Wojciech Szczesny.

About 10 minutes to go in both last-16 ties...

SUBSTITUTION

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Not very often that you see an opposing player (without a link to the home club) receiving a standing ovation. But we do now. The Bernabeu fans climb to their feet to welcome veteran Roma legend Francesco Totti on to the pitch. Respect.

Although he did turn Madrid down in his pomp apparently...

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

27 - @Cristiano Ronaldo has made 27 assists in #UCL, at least 4 more than any other current player (Iniesta and Messi, 23). Supportive.

GOAL - Wolfsburg 1-0 Gent (agg 4-2)

Andre Schurrle (74 mins)

And that should seal Wolfsburg's place in their first Champions League quarter-final.

Wonderful wing-play from Julian Draxler, channelling his inner Stanley Matthews to drop a shoulder then whizz past a defender to the right byeline, lays the goal on a plate for Andre Schurrle.

The Germany international doesn't need asking twice, coolly burying in from eight yards.

Gent now need three goals in 16 minutes to progress...

SUBSTITUTION

Wolfsburg 0-0 Gent (agg 3-2)

Striker Kalifa Coulibaly, who inspired Gent's comeback in the first leg, has been summoned from the bench, and immediately he's into the action, twisting and turning in the penalty area and stinging the gloves of Koen Casteels.

Wolfsburg immediately go up the other end and Andre Schurrle fires wide when clean through.

Twenty minutes left for the Belgian side to turn this tie around...

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Almost three. And here's a collector's item...Cristiano Ronaldo dragging a terrible shot across goal and wide when bearing down on goal. Remember the moment...

GOAL - Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

James Rodriguez (67 mins)

Pack up the kit bag and start the team coach - it is all over. Cristiano Ronaldo turns provider, slipping in James Rodriguez who smashes straight through the legs of Roma keeper Wojciech Szczesny.

GOAL - Real Madrid 1-0 Roma (agg 3-0)

Cristiano Ronaldo (64 mins)

Relax Real Madrid fans. The Spanish giants have one foot in the quarter-finals after finally punishing Roma for their wastefulness.

And what an impact from Lucas Vazquez! The substitute picks up the ball on the right, blinds the Roma left-back with a series of sparkling stepovers before delivering for Cristiano Ronaldo to finish.

SUBSTITUTION

Real Madrid 0-0 Roma (agg 2-0)

"Come in number 11, your time is done."

Gareth Bale is hooked by Zinedine Zidane after an hour, understandable on his first start in almost two months.

On comes Lucas Vazquez. Can the young(ish) substitute provide a spark?

Wolfsburg 0-0 Gent (agg 3-2)

Wolfsburg are huffing and puffing. But they can't blow the house down. Andre Schurrle meets Max Kruse's knockdown, but the ex-Chelsea man's 15-yard effort is hacked clear by a Gent defender.

Real Madrid 0-0 Roma (agg 2-0)

A sucker-punch of a Madrid opener is not inevitable while they continue to defend like an Under-11s team.

Marcelo is more interested in bombing forward, leaving a massive gap down the left. Roma's Alessandro Florenzi takes advantage, firing a low shot that is beaten away by Keylor Navas.

How many chances...

Real Madrid 0-0 Roma (agg 2-0)

When are Real Madrid going to score then? Let's have a cash-free sweepstake. It's inevitable surely. Marcelo almost sneaks in behind the Roma defence, but Wojciech Szczesny stands tall to block.

Wolfsburg 0-0 Gent (agg 3-2)

We have a shot of note in Germany! Well I say of note...home attacker Julian Draxler's effort flies over the Gent bar. It's better than nothing...

Wolfsburg enjoying a decent spell of pressure now. Dante and Luiz Gustavo also going close for the Germans.

Real Madrid 0-0 Roma (agg 2-0)

How many chances do Roma need!!! Another golden opportunity for the Italians, moments after some desperate defending keeps out Madrid at the other end.

The visitors counter quickly, with Mohamed Salah AGAIN in acres of space as the home defence go walkabout. But the Egyptian drills wide with only Keylor Navas to beat.

He'd struggle to finish his dinner...

Real Madrid 0-0 Roma (agg 2-0)

Madrid get behind the Roma early doors - twice in fact. First, James Rodriguez beats the Roma offside trap, only to overhit his cross instead of calmly rolling square to Cristiano Ronaldo. Then centre-kick Pepe turns up on the left flank (I don't know why either) but Roma head clear.

KICK-OFF

Real Madrid 0-0 Roma (agg 2-0)

Here we go then. Roma have 45 minutes to score at least two goals...

They're rolling again in Wolfsburg too.

SUBSTITUTION

Real Madrid 0-0 Roma (agg 2-0)

There's a new face in a Roma shirt. The Italians have decided to make a change, midfielder William Vainqueur replaces Miralem Pjanic. Expect that to be like for like in middle of the park.

Real Madrid 0-0 Roma (agg 2-0)

Tactics discussed, water taken on board, maybe even a quick trip to the loo. We're all set in the BBC Sport office and so are the Real Madrid and Roma players. They're back out in the Bernabeu...

HALF-TIME

Real Madrid 0-0 Roma (agg 2-0)

Crowd in Madrid so tense - whistling every lost touch. Really does feel like a Roma goal could tip the atmosphere into a dark place.

HALF-TIME

Real Madrid 0-0 Roma (agg 2-0)

Stats are a funny thing. Because even though we know Madrid were pinging efforts from left, right and centre at the Roma goal, they haven't really stretched Wojciech Szczesny.

And it was the Italians who should have scored. Not once, not twice, but three times. That could prove more costly than dropping your phone in the sink...

Real Madrid 0-0 Roma (agg 2-0)

18 - @realmadriden attempted 18 shots against Roma, more than in any other first half of #UCL game since at least 06/07. Patience.

HALF-TIME

Wolfsburg 0-0 Gent (agg 3-2)

Time for a breather in Germany too. And the home fans will be happily chomping on their bratwursts. Wolfsburg have shaded the play, without really creating anything of note. But, most importantly, Gent have offered even less of an attacking threat.

HALF-TIME

Real Madrid 0-0 Roma (agg 2-0)

Not much to report in that final minute, other than a deflected Ronaldo shot yielding a corner which came to nothing.

Virtual silence as ref Szymon Marciniak peeps his half-time whistle. Roma will be happy they are still in this last-16 tie, but it could be soooo much better...

Real Madrid 0-0 Roma (agg 2-0)

The clock is ticking towards the half-time break. Waiting for the fourth official to trot up to the touchline. Here he is! One minute of added time to play, he reveals...
