So, Palace progress to set up a repeat of the 1990 FA Cup final.

If the 2016 showdown is anywhere near as good as the 3-3 Palace and Man United served up back then we are in for a treat.

I'll see thee.

Crystal Palace 2-1 Watford

Crystal Palace's match winner Connor Wickham speaking to BBC Sport: "I think I owed it to the boys. The first goal we concede was my fault. For my goal i knew I was going to win the header and thankfully it went in. We controlled the game from start to finish."

Manager reaction

Crystal Palace 2-1 Watford

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew: "We have let our fans down in home games this year but we had our strongest team out there.

"With an early goal, sometimes you can sit on it. But we continued our threat throughout the game. Waford had 5-10 minutes when they bossed the game and scored, but we bossed it for 80 minutes and that is a testament to our players mentality.

"We decided to play Yannick [Bolasie] as a 10 but not in the hole. He got down the sides well. Connor [Wickham] was the big bonus for us. When we lost him to injury [earlier in the season] it was a blow. And it was good to see him have the game. This was his game. He is by no means the finished article but I think by 27 he might be.

"We will have a different gameplan against Manchester United, but that is not to say we can't control the game. We deserve to be here.

"Louis van Gaal's Manchester United career might rest on this game. He has had some awful press and I will be glad to see him at Wembley."

Crystal Palace 2-1 Watford

Crystal Palace's opening goal scorer Yannick Bolasie speaking to BBC Sport: "The goal was a great moment for myself. I didn't get to play at Wembley in the play-offs, so I'm delighted for myself and the team. The fans have been great and so has the manager."

Christophe Talbotski: United v Palace in the FA Cup final. Shaded in 1990 and all that. Seem to remember England doing quite well after it too.

Manager reaction

Crystal Palace 2-1 Watford

Watford boss Quique Flores: "I am pleased with the performance. It was difficult to play Palace who defend with an English style and have pace and power. It was hard to coincede the first goal. It took some time to recover. We came back and in the second half we match Palace.

"In this moment, I feel we had the chance to win the match. The most important thing is that we are competitive in the semi-final.

"We have a lot of reasons to be happy this season. The main target was to stay in the Premier League. In the future when we look at the history of Watford we will see how important this season was for the club."

"[Laughs] I think Zaha was lying (see 18:14) With what happened at Manchester United he will want to smash them out of sight."

Crystal Palace 2-1 Watford

Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha speaking to BBC Sport: "I'm buzzing. We said before that we can't get this far and not make it, that was the plan to get there and we're happy."

Crystal Palace 2-1 Watford

Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha, speaking to BBC Sport: "It was hard. We had some of our main players out. I just wanted to give my all. Manchester United, personally it's just another game for me. I know it's an FA Cup final but what I mean is Manchester United are just another team now for me. I just want to win it for Palace."

Meanwhile, at the King Power Stadium, Leicester have beaten Swansea 4-0 to go eight points clear at the top of the table. Bonkers season.

One Palace fan holds aloft a banner that reads 'Where Eagles Dare'. Quite. They were by far the more adventurous team today and they got their reward. Great film that as well. Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood taking on Nazi fortress up in the Alps.

Emmanuel Adebayor, speaking to BBC Sport: "For me it's beautiful. I came back here six months and have a chance to play in the final for this beautiful club. I am so glad we have made it.

"The manager convinced me to come and play for the Eagles, I am very happy to be part of this team. Against Manchester United it's going to be a beautiful one. It was a big occasion for Connor as a young striker, we spoke before the game. I am very happy he got his goal today."

Where has Alan Pardew gone? As soon as that final whistle blew he ran down the tunnel. Maybe he left the oven on?

"Watford did show a bit more promise in the second half but Crystal Palace have deserved this. They've been the dominant team throughout the game and go through to the final against Manchester United."

FULL-TIME

Crystal Palace 2-1 Watford

That is it! All over! Palace are through to the FA Cup final for the second time. In a repeat of their first final, in 1990, they will face Manchester United. They fully deserve it as well.

"Watford just have to get it forward as quickly as they can now. It really is desperation stuff."

"Now Watford are playing with desperation. Guedioura doesn't quite get the contact he needs. It's a scuff. Agonisingly wide of the far post.

"Why didn't they start playing like this 15 minutes earlier?"

Crystal Palace 2-1 Watford

Close! Watford go at Palace but after Damien Delaney's header away falls to Adlene Guedioura in the box he can only scuff his shot wide.

Five minutes will be added. They have just started. Palace still have some defending to do. Have Watford got anything left to offer?

Urgency needed now from Watford. Ake delivers a long throw into the box for Deeney to meet with a header but the striker is penalised for an arm in Damien Delaney's face. It brings Deeney a yellow card but, more importantly for Palace, it wastes more time.

Crystal Palace 2-1 Watford

There are gaps at the back for Palace to exploit now as Watford send men forward. Emmanuel Adebayor finds Wilfried Zaha on the edge of the box but the winger's shot flies into the side netting.

"Wickham's goal was a good header but his hold-up play has been excellent. That's why he was in the team - to bring Bolasie and Zaha into the game. He's been a real handful."

SUBSTITUTION

Crystal Palace 2-1 Watford

Connor Wickham gets a huge round of applause from the Palace fans. His goal is currently sending his side to the FA Cup final. He is replaced by Emmanuel Adebayor.

Jurado's shot from the edge of the box takes a deflection but Wayne Hennessey dives to get firmly behind it.

Watford send on Ikechi Anya for Nyom, desperately searching for something, anything, to get back in to this game.

"Odion Ighalo has to hit the target. He'd score with any sort of good contact there. It really was a chance."

SUBSTITUTION

Bakary Sako replaces Jason Puncheon to give Palace some fresh legs in attack. Soon after, Odion Ighalo latches on to a loose ball in the box following Deeney's flick on but slices his shot high and wide.

Crystal Palace 2-1 Watford

Zaha is fuming. He was away from a pass from Yohan Cabaye, but the referee has pulled play back to book Mario Suárez for a foul on the French midfielder.

Crystal Palace 2-1 Watford

And now Palace are on the break. Wilfried Zaha beats two men on his way into the box before being tackled. The ball falls to Connor Wickham but his effort is blocked.

Troy Deeney gets his head to another delivery into the box, this time at the back post, but he is unable to steer his header past Wayne Hennessey for Odion Ighalo to finish.

SUBSTITUTION

Preserving the lead is more important than adding to it for Palace. James McArthur repalces the scorer of the opening goal, Yannick Bolasie. Like Watford's Watson, Mcrthur was part of the Wigan team that won the FA Cup in 2013.

Watford are going to have to dig deep now. They were only level for six minutes. Wickham's goal will have been a huge psychological blow. They have 20 minutes to drag themselves back in to this game again.

Martin Keown

Former Arsenal defender at Wembley

"All Watford's hard work to get back on level terms is undone. That's why Connor Wickham is in the team. He got off the ground really well and it was out of the keeper's reach."
