"A draw was probably the fair result"

Tottenham 1-1 Liverpool

Tottenham goalscorer Danny Rose speaking to Sky Sports: “A draw was probably the fair result. In the first half Michel Vorm was probably our man of match, he made great saves but I thought we played a lot better in the second half.

“For the goal I took a gamble but didn’t want to go forward too much because the pace of Mane is frightening. I think I shanked it but it went in and they all count.”

"It doesn’t feel too brilliant at the moment"

Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to Match of the Day: "When you take a point at Tottenham for 99 per cent of teams it would be a good thing but today we saw the game different.

"We played a very good away game against a very strong side. It was our first real mistake and it was a goal so that is not really fair.

"We showed we can be good. We played football and defended really good. It doesn’t feel too brilliant at the moment.

On the penalty incident involving Tottenham's Jan Vertonghen: "If the referee waits one second then it is 100 per cent a penalty, do we have to make the corner quicker?

"Ask him what the rules are. We go there (to Burnley) and it is a penalty and today not. I have no idea what is right. I would prefer he said nothing and watched the situation and then it is penalty."

Tottenham 1-1 Liverpool

Liverpool really impressive at times here - pressing, fluid passing - but then faded. Not unlike Klopp's first game here last October.

The season so far

So, is that about par for both teams so far this season?

Tottenham have taken a win and two draws from Everton (a), Crystal Palace (h) and Liverpool (h).

Liverpool have four points from trips to Arsenal, Burnley and Tottenham.

Next up for Tottenham is an away game against Stoke on 10 September. Liverpool play Leicester at home on the same day,

"A tough start to the season"

Liverpool left-back James Milner: "Ultimately we are disappointed. We didn’t do enough in the second half so it was probably a fair result in the end. We deserved to be in front but in the second half we didn’t come out on the front foot after getting the goal.

On playing as a make-shift left-back: "You have got to learn quickly. Fortunately I have played in the Premier League long enough to have enough experience. I have played in enough positions throughout my career, I just have to adapt to position

"It seems a long time since we played at Anfield, it has been a tough start.

"We have four points and probably should have had more but the performances are not far off the level we need. As long as we keep performing I am sure more results will come."

Liverpool are such an absurdly wasteful team. And you'd never bank on them keeping a clean sheet. Not a great combo.

Tottenham 1-1 Liverpool

The two teams trudge from the pitch to a soundtrack of applause.

Jurgen Klopp is animatedly explaining a point to Sadio Mane as they go over to the away fans.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino high-fives former Southampton charges Nathaniel Clyne and Dejan Lovren.

Daniel Sturridge is deep in discussion with Danny Rose, covering his mouth with his hand to keep his words private from any pitchside lip-readers.

It was end-to-end stuff at the end. There's a great deal of respect for each other. It seems every time they play each other you can't pick a winner and I think it's a fair result.

It's still early season and all credit to the players. You're left wanting more you didn't want the game to end.

FULL-TIME

Tottenham 1-1 Liverpool

Honours even. An excellent game and probably a fair result.

It's almost hit Toby Alderweireld on the elbow and his hand is tight to his body. They are appealing for everything, both managers here.

Oooff!

Hearts in mouths behind Michel Vorm's goal as the Spurs keeper reacts just in time to grab Georginio Wijnaldum's deflected shot.

Wijnaldum is claiming that the ball hit Toby Alderweireld's hand on its way. No dice from Robert Madeley.

Victor Wanyama winds up from fully 30 yards, but his shot drifts tamely wide of the Liverpool goal.

SUBSTITUTION

Joel Matip heads clear Eric Dier's cross. Ball out of play and time for Daniel Sturridge.

He is on in place of Sadio Mane. Three minutes to be a hero.

Daniel Sturridge is about to come on.

Four minutes to go. No excuse not to run around like a headless chicken.

YELLOW CARD

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson picks up a yellow card, possibly for something he said rather than did.

Josh Onomah - sporting a crown of bleached hair - wins a corner off James Milner with his first touch.

And Toby Alderweireld should do better when picked out by the set-piece, the Tottenham defender stooping into the cross and heading over.

The Tottenham fans are very supportive of Harry Kane. A round of applause as he goes off. He hasn't quite got the sharpness yet. Josh Onomah wants to run at people. He's very quick.

Tottenham change it up for the final stages.

On comes youngster Josh Onomah to replace Harry Kane.

James Milner chases back and does his left-back duties though.

Nathaniel Clyne cuts in off the flank, but his shot shows why he plays at right-back rather than left. A scruffy bobbler of an effort off his wrong foot goes harmlessly wide.

Totally unnecessary from Dele Alli. He kicked the ball away and got booked. Mauricio Pochettino can't believe it.

Charlie Meacham: What a first touch that is Danny Rose.

Johnny Magrinho: Awful defending. Again. At least 3 defenders trying to get the ball, leaving Rose free to smash it in. Will they ever learn?

Fifteen minutes to go. Anyone's from here.

Neither defence has looked tight enough.

We talked about quality in the final third. That's what caused the problem for Liverpool.

A wonderful ball in with his left foot from Erik Dier and Danny Rose does very well with his finish.

It's end-to-end stuff now.

GOAL - Tottenham 1-1 Liverpool

Danny Rose

It had been coming.

Tottenham have been on top for the past 10 minutes and they level up as Danny Rose smashes in at the far post as Eric Dier's cross makes it through to the full-back.

There was a slight suggestion that Dier might have been offside from Toby Alderweireld's pass. It was marginal though.

Daniel Sturridge looks on from the sidelines. He has the expression of a man who has just trod something unmentionable across his front-room carpet.

Dele Alli and Roberto Firmino are exchanging words and killer looks after a little set-to sparked by the Brazilian's challenge.

It looks like Jurgen Klopp is going to bring on Divock Origi to try and wrestle back the mojo.

What will Daniel Sturridge - also among the subs - make of that?

Tottenham 0-1 Liverpool

Martin Keown

He anticipates that so well, Simon Mignolet. It was a great save from the keeper. Liverpool are being tested and a few wild challenges going in on the edge of that Liverpool box.

GREAT SAVE!

Tottenham with the wind in their sails.

Simon Mignolet has to get down sharply at his near post as Toby Alderweireld nods a corner goalwards.

Erik Lamela forces a save from Simon Mignolet as he whips the ball in just under the bar from the free-kick.

Better from the hosts.

Eric Dier gets into space on the right flank and picks out Christian Eriksen with a laser-guided cut-back to the far edge of the box.

The Dane goes with the side-foot, attempting to steer the cross into the top corner, but there is just too much momentum on the ball and it clears the crossbar.

What can Mauricio Pochettino do to jump-start this Spurs side?

They have started the slower in this second half.

The Argentine has Son Heung-Min on the bench. Time to throw on the South Korean?
