Thanks for joining us today, you can check out reports for Southampton's win, Manchester United's defeat and Dundalk's draw on our football index.
Over and out.
Southampton striker Charlie Austin to BT Sport: "It's a special night for me, my debut in the competition. But more importantly it's a good win for the team to get spirits up. We haven't had a great start to the season."
On his argument with Dusan Tadic, on who should take the penalty: "I'm a centre forward, I think I should take the penalties. I was feeling confident.
"It was a bit silly from me and Dusan but I think I'll take the penalties in the future. It's all about the team."
Southampton have yet to lose a European game at St Mary’s, winning two and drawing two (including qualifiers).
Southampton top Group K after one game after Hapoel Be'er Sheva beat former European champions Inter Milan 2-0 in the other game.
Not a great start to Frank de Boer's managerial reign at Inter, who are on four points from three games in Serie A.
Southampton pick up their first win of the season - their first victory under new boss Claude Puel.
Jay Rodriguez adds a late third for Southampton, which maybe reflects their dominance more. Shane Long squares it to the substitute, who just turns it home from close range.
Three minutes added on. Three minutes until what we've known since the 27th minute is confirmed - a Southampton win.
Shane Long curls a shot high and wide from the corner of the box. It's been another frustrating night for the Republic of Ireland striker.
Sparta substitute Matej Pulkrab catches James Ward-Prowse late and is booked. Ward-Prowse was livid with the challenge. Not long to go now.
Southampton want a penalty as Maya Yoshida is barged over by Mario Holek but they don't get one. They can't complain too much though as they should never have had the penalty which gave them the lead early on.
Southampton haven't got behind Sparta's defence much but they breach it here as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg slips a great pass into Cuco Martina, who waits and waits for someone to cross it into but he dawdles too long and loses the ball.
And now Steven Davis replaces Oriol Romeu in the Saints midfield.
Martin Frydek has the ball out left for Sparta. But will he shoot or cross? Well I'm not actually sure - but whatever it was, it's high and wide and out for a goal-kick.
Baba Rahman is the second Chelsea loanee to score in the Europa League tonight, putting Schalke 1-0 up at Mario Balotelli's Nice, as they are now known. Bertrand Traore scored for Ajax earlier.
Inter Milan are now 2-0 down at home to Hapoel Be'er Sheva. That game is in Southampton's group.
Charlie Austin won't become the first Southampton player to score a European hat-trick. That is because he's replaced by Jay Rodriguez.
Sparta Prague bring on teenage striker Matej Pulkrab for Josef Sural - 15 minutes for him to make himself a hero.
Southampton break at pace but the ball just won't land right for Shane Long to take it in his stride after he flicks it over a defender. Instead he backheels it to Nathan Redmond but the pass is cut out.
Southampton make a change as Nathan Redmond, who has been playing up front this season despite having been a winger in the past, replaces attacking midfielder Dusan Tadic.
Al Jessop: I'm a Saints fan watching from a campsite in Spain. Lots of buffering but it's worth it!
Marius Hollenga: I can say, genuinely, that the Europa League is my favourite football tournament. Great fun.
As I write that David Lafata forces Fraser Forster into a proper save on the half-volley from 20 yards out.
And Nathan Redmond is warning up for the Saints now, who might realise they can't relax too much.
There's really not much to report from St Mary's, Southampton still seem to be in control without particularly looking like they're going to score a third.
One bunch of fans enjoying the tournament are Zenit St Petersburg, who pulled off one of the great comebacks earlier today in Israel. Those are the other teams in Dundalk's group.
So this is the first night of the Europa League proper this season. Enjoying it so far? Did you miss it?
To go back to an earlier conversation, would you even watch it on TV if it risked the wrath of your partner/housemate when you want to follow this weekend's/yesterday's games?
Let us know using #bbcfootball.
Inter Milan are facing a shock defeat in the Europa League. Miguel Vitor, who had a forgettable (literally) loan spell at Leicester in 2010-11, has put Hapoel Be'er Sheva ahead at the San Siro.
Hapoel are the team who lost to Celtic in the Champions League play-off.
Southampton have to be careful here, they're in control but one goal would put Sparta right back in this. The ball lands for Vaclav Kadlec in the box and Dusan Tadic does well to deflect his shot out for a corner.
Charlie Austin chases a pass forward but knows he's offside so stops. He doesn't see a flag or hear a whistle so he starts his run again after a second and only when he gets to the ball does the whistle blow.
A waste of everyone's time.
Dusan Tadic plays a ball through to Shane Long, who hasn't scored in 11 goals for club and country, and the Republic of Ireland striker lets the ball go through his legs rather than controlling it.
He'll be desperate to get back to his scoring form of last spring.
Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster gets a bit lucky as he kicks a clearance straight to/at a Sparta Prague player, who can't make the England man pay.
Seconds later, Dusan Tadic cuts in from the right but his shot is weak and easily saved by Tomas Koubek.
Anton Richter: If Charlie Austin can keep fit he will only get better and better.
Chris Wex: Why is Charlie Austin only making his European debut tonight? He's been a proven, bona fide, solid gold, goal machine for ever
Josef Sural goes down after getting a James Ward-Prowse forearm to the head. The Southampton midfielder isn't punished, it didn't look intentional. Sural seems to be OK.
Sparta Prague made a change at half-time, as veteran striker David Lafata replaces Lukas Julis, who I'm not sure I mentioned once in that first half.
Southampton get the second half going.
Just waiting for the players to come back out onto the pitch at St Mary's. Not long until we're back under way.
Jonathan dos Santos put Villarreal 2-1 up in first-half injury time against FC Zurich.
Inter Milan are drawing 0-0 with Hapoel Be'er Sheva.
Mario Balotelli is playing for Nice, who are 0-0 at home to Schalke.
Kevin Bookham: If Southampton keep playing like this they could win the Europa League
A good opening half from Southampton, who are in total cruise control.
Two minutes added on.
Southampton are looking so comfortable, goalkeeper Fraser Forster wanders out of his box to deal with a pass.
Harsh, I mean, where does that leave Darren Anderton? Or Abou Diaby?
Southampton are enjoying their first game in Europe in 13 years (excluding qualifiers). Lots of singing of 'oh when the Saints go marching in'. Which to be fair, as a chant, makes a lot more sense than when other football fans sing it with their nickname replacing Saints.
