Benjamin Lewis: Why couldn't Zlatan Ibrahimovic have come to the premier league sooner? He is a sensational player who ages like fine wine.

Sophie Gayter: May have been offside but take a bow Mkhitaryan. Goal of the season so far.

Richard: Mkhitaryan with the best offside goal you'll see all season.

Trevor Sinclair

Ex-Man City & West Ham winger on Final Score

Mkhitaryan had no right to score from that situation.

Really he should just leave it and say it was a bad cross.

Somehow he has the ability and know-how to hit the back of the net.

What an amazing goal by Henrikh Mkhitaryan. A kind of first-time overhead back-flick whilst facing Sunderland's goal.

David Moyes is sat down now. So is Jose Mourinho, who has extended his unbeaten run to 11, which is the most Louis van Gaal managed as Manchester United manager.

Moyes managed 12.

Fabio Borini (90 mins)

Too late. But delightful. Fabio Borini with an inswinger into the top corner - picture perfect from the outside of the box, but it will do nothing to help his side in this match.

Paul Pogba has been simply sensational today. The timing of pass is great.

It was a magestic finish from Ibrahimovic. He just waits for Pickford to go ground.

United haven't been great today but across the season they have been very good.

GOAL - Man Utd 3-0 Sunderland

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Game over. What a finish by Henrikh Mkhitaryan, backheeling Zlatan Ibrahimovic's cross into the net, but the forward did seem a touch offside.

That was a gift - an absolute gift.

Cool as you'd like. A clinical finish from Zlatan.

That's his 17th goal of the season. He is level with Andy Cole in terms of his goal scoring ratio.

SUBSTITUTION

Man Utd 2-0 Sunderland

Cue the introduction of Marouane Fellaini for Ander Herrera.

Ruthless Rojo

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

Simon Stone

BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Marcos Rojo has had his fair share of critics at Manchester United. And it is fair to say he has been fortunate not to be sent off recently for bad tackles against both Everton and Crystal Palace.

But the Argentine has not put a foot wrong this afternoon and has twice closed the door on promising Sunderland counter-attacks in the last few minutes.

SUBSTITUTION

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

Anthony Martial is introduced, replacing Juan Mata. Jose Mourinho will be hoping that the Frenchman's speed gives his team's attack added impetus.

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

Just as in the first half, Sunderland are fighting their way back into this match. Another corner for the Black Cats - hope - Seb Larsson pulls his corner back towards the D, but the change of ploy does not bring a change in fortunes.

George Hider: Since when is Djilobodji kicking Ibra's knee not a penalty? this is getting ridiculous. three pens we should have had this game

Yousuf Ali: How long before Sunderland receives an offer they can't turn down for Pickford?

Chinedu: All this cuteness will amount for nothing if Sunderland equalize

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

United completely dominant, enjoying over 60% of possession and so far in this match they've had a total of 19 shots, five of which have been on target.

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

If the match carries on like this, it seems unlikely that Sunderland are going to get anything from this tie - but United need that second goal to ease the tension.

Khaihid De Bruyne: Pogba always seems to turn up against the smaller teams, when will he have an impact on the bigger games?

Mufc Believer: Game's screaming for Martial or Rashford upfront. Zlatan doesn't have to play every week.

Michael Devlin: The extra time off between matches has not been good for Ibra.

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

Victor Anichebe runs into a cul de sac but earns his team a corner, despite not receiving much support from his team-mates. Seb Larsson's corner drifts into the box, but it comes to nothing...

At the other end, Zlatan Ibrahimovic forces a save from Jordan Pickford. The Sunderland keeper rescues his team once again.

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

An immediate impact from Henrikh Mkhitaryan? Nearly. Juan Mata finds his team-mate on the left... beautiful control from the former Borussia Dortmund man and he's only a fraction wide of curling his shot into the bottom far corner.

SUBSTITUTION

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

United supporters are pleased to see Henrikh Mkhitaryan introduced. The play-maker replaces Jesse Lingard.

Over to you

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

They clearly don't look alike but Jose Mourinho and David Moyes must be thinking along similar lines at Old Trafford today.

Both are wearing thick dark coats, neither has anything on their head - Moyes does have a hood - both have dark trousers, both are patrolling their technical areas and both have sent their substitutes out to warm-up.

I've just seen Jose Mourinho is applauding the performance of Marcos Rojo at the back - I think he is starting to feel a little more satisfied at Old Trafford.

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

A fine tackle by Papy Djilobodji on Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the United striker runs into the box. The Swede hasn't had the run of the ball as of yet.

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

Sunderland have stemmed the wave after wave of attacks which were coming their way. United the better side, but lacking that bit of magic in the final third to put this game to bed.

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

United bossing it, patiently passing their way into the opposition half. Phil Jones bursts through from defence, and his pass lets Zlatan Ibrahimovic loose inside the box, but the striker's touch is a tad rusty and United's momentum dies.

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

Juan Mata with a dreamy through ball which puts Zlatan Ibrahimovic clear, but the Swede opts for power rather than precision.

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

Phil Jones comes out on top of a battle between him and Jermain Defoe. It's all United, which will please Sir Alex Ferguson who is watching on from the stands.

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

Oof! Paul Pogba is a whisker off target with a header. Pressure building.

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

United have started with gusto, dominating the ball, with Paul Pogba the stand-out player.

Jesse Lingard puts Andre Herrera through, but a last-gasp tackle from Lamine Koné saves the day.

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

Zlatan Ibrahimovic gets the better of Papy Djilobodji on the right... Paul Pogba is in support... but the Swede's pass is a fraction behind the Frenchman and slows down the attack. Chance gone.

Blind's blinder

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

Simon Stone

BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Jose Mourinho can allow himself a smile of satisfaction at half-time.

As Wayne Rooney was injured, United's only tactical switch today was to introduce Daley Blind for Matteo Darmian and he has been rewarded with a rare goal from the Dutchman.

So rare in fact that it was September 2015 since Blind's last in the Premier League, which was the only other time he has scored at Old Trafford.

HALF-TIME

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

Jordan Pickford is yelling at his defenders as the visitors form a wall... Juan Mata attempts to sneak the free-kick low into the corner but Pickford is alert and the keeper's save is the last bit of action of the half.

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

A final first-half flourish for United? Paul Pogba attempts an overhead, but the midfielder doesn't truly connect. Forward go United again, though, and Juan Mata earns his team a free-kick after Jason Denayer is deemed to have felled the Spaniard.

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

There will be three minutes of added time. United monopolising possession. Zlatan Ibrahimovic attempts to put Juan Mata clear with a fancy flick, but his pass goes straight to Patrick van Aanholt.

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

United have very much been in control since they broke the deadlock. Paul Pogba attempts another crossfield ball, but this one drifts straight at Patrick van Aanholt.

Man Utd 1-0 Sunderland

A sense that Manchester United may now up the ante. They're passing crisply in Sunderland's half. Antonio Valencia crosses in from the right... the cleared ball bounces to Paul Pogba, who passes to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swede then sets up Jesse Lingard, who is off target with his shot.
