FA Cup first-round weekend

Marcus Bignot
Rex Features

What an afternoon it has been, from Westfields earning a replay, to Macclesfield winning at Walsall, to Sutton United winning a nine-goal thriller at Dartford - it's been a bundle of fun, goals and pitch invasions.

Thanks for joining us on what has been a thoroughly action-packed afternoon of first-round action.

Highlights from today's FA Cup games will be available on the BBC Sport website.

We'll see you again tomorrow. Goodbye.

Good news on McCartan

FT: Bradford 1-2 Accrington

Accrington have been quick to give an update on striker Shay McCartan, who went to hospital after falling ill in the closing stages of their win at Bradford.

It's good news, as the 22-year-old has been released - fingers crossed we see him back on a football field soon.

News is positive on Shay - he is back from hospital but will be monitored over the next few days and will have further tests

FT: Portsmouth 1-2 Wycombe

Paul Cook
Rex Features

Portsmouth, winners of this competition eight years ago, were knocked out at home by fellow League Two side Wycombe today.

He has not minced his words after the game.

"I thought Wycombe thoroughly deserved the win," he told BBC Radio Solent.

"It's probably the most disappointing afternoon I've had since arriving."

FT: Northampton 6-0 Harrow

FA Cup: Northampton 6-0 Harrow highlights

Northampton smashed six past non-league Harrow, but they weren't even the biggest FA Cup winners today.

That accolade goes to Braintree - 7-0 winners over Eastbourne.

Stourbridge celebrate draw

FT: Whitehawk 1-1 Stourbridge

It may require several crowbars to extract our fans from Whitehawk's bar. Wild scenes... and we only drew.

"They'll be partying on the streets of Stourbridge tonight!"

The Midlands side equalised through Dan Scarr to earn a 1-1 draw and take the replay back to their place.

Concern for McCartan

FT: Bradford 1-2 Accrington

It is not yet clear why Accrington forward Shay McCartan required medical attention during stoppage time at the end of the game but we will keep you informed as and when any further information comes through.

Shay McCartan is in hospital - John Coleman said everyone's thoughts are with Shay. He was taken ill on the pitch & got immediate treatment

It has been confirmed post-match that Accrington player Shay McCartan has been taken to hospital. Hopefully everything is positive for him.

FT: Cambridge 1-1 Dover

Highlights: Cambridge 1-1 Dover

Ricky Miller's late goal earned Dover a draw away at League Two side Cambridge United.

The U's, struggling in League Two, will not be looking forward to that trip to Kent...

FT: Bolton 1-0 Grimsby

FA Cup: Bolton 1-0 Grimsby highlights

Liam Trotter's first half goal spared Bolton blushes as they edged to a 1-0 victory at home to League Two Grimsby.

FT: Peterborough 2-1 Chesham United

Highlights: Peterborough 2-1 Chesham United

Told you the highlights were coming through now... Here's League One Posh hanging on for victory over non-league Chesham United.

FT: MK Dons 3-2 Spennymoor

Highlights: MK Dons 3-2 Spennymoor

Non-league side Spennymoor Town battled back from 3-0 down, but MK Dons held on - watch all the highlights here now.

FT: Westfields 1-1 Curzon Ashton

Delight as Curzon rescue FA Cup draw at Westfields

Westfields manager Sean Edwards, who says his players do not get paid for FA Cup games, says the 52 places between the side's showed today, despite their draw at home to Curzon Ashton.

He tells Final Score: "Curzon Ashton had a lot of the ball. But we're in the hat.

"I'm disappointed we didn't really play but we'd have taken a draw, just to have our name in the hat on Monday.

"I said it felt like Christmas Day - now I've opened a present, it's not the present I want but it is still a present!"

FT: Yeovil 2-2 Solihull Moors

Rex Features

Solihull Moors manager Marcus Bignot, linked with the vacant Grimsby Town job, holds aloft a club scarf to the loyal fans who've traveled down to Somerset to see their side draw at League Two Yeovil.

Could that be a parting gift?

Non-league success

It looks like many of the non-league sides took inspiration from Eastleigh's gutsy display last night against Swindon.

From this afternoon's ties, 14 more sides below the fourth tier have joined them in the hat for the second round, the most noteworthy being Braintree, Brackley, Macclesfield, Westfields and Solihull Moors.

I'm sure most neutrals will be hoping that number continues to increase tomorrow.

Anyone up for a replay?

So, we are now guaranteed at least 10 first-round replays, after eight of this afternoon's 26 15:00 GMT kick-offs ended in draws.

Eastleigh/Swindon and Crawley/Bristol Rovers were already set for replays.

Highlights to come

Remember, from 17:15 GMT we'll be able to show you the goals from today's FA Cup matches...

Macclesfield fans, you'll like this!

Best of the rest

FA Cup first round

There have been a few notable results this afternoon, and another which deserves some plaudits is Accrington's 2-1 triumph at Bradford, who are 29 places above them in the pyramid.

Romuald Boco's opener was cancelled out by Matt Kilgallon, but Jordan Clark notched a late winner for the League Two side.

It wouldn't be fair of me not to mention Dagenham's stalemate with FC Halifax Town - the only one of today's 28 first round ties not to have a goal. Let's hope the replay is more interesting...

FT: Yeovil 2-2 Solihull Moors

Thunder Claps from the away fans and ola's for a professional clincial display

And why wouldn't you after earning a draw in your first ever FA Cup first-round match?!

FULL-TIME: Peterborough 2-1 Chesham United

The Evo Stik Southern Premier side are out of time - their late fightback was not quite enough to earn a replay against Posh, who are ranked 95 places above them.

FULL-TIME Gillingham 2-2 Brackley Town

Some might argue it could've been even better for National League North side Brackley, who found themselves two goals up early on at League One Gillingham.

But despite spurning the lead, the underdogs stemmed the tide in the second half and will get to do it all again on home turf in the replay.

FULL-TIME: Walsall 0-1 Macclesfield

Jon Whitney's Walsall, 12th in League One, are out of the FA Cup!

John McCombe's goal wins it for National League Macclesfield, who are absolutely delighted.

Walsall 0-1 Macclesfield

They are still playing, just off the M6, where Macclesfield lead against League One Walsall.

One more minute of added time remains for John Askey's side to hold on.

FULL-TIME MK Dons 3-2 Spennymoor Town

Rex Features

You're 3-0 down away at a side who are 80 places above you in the ladder - what do you do?

Well minnows Spennymoor kept their heads high and made a real fist of it - goals from Joe Tait and Andrew Johnson may ultimately have counted for nothing, but they can go home with great pride.

FULL-TIME: Cambridge 1-1 Dover

Ricky Miller's strike earns Dover a replay against a side really struggling in League Two.

U's manager Shaun Derry will not be happy with that result.

FULL-TIME Yeovil 2-2 Solihull Moors

Rex Features

They were only founded in 2007 and are making their debut in the first round - Solihull Moors have recovered from two goals down to earn a replay at home to Yeovil.

Yes, the Glovers went down to 10 men, but well done Jack Byrne - his brace has given Solihull hope of making yet more history.

FULL-TIME: Westfields 1-1 Curzon Ashton

That's it, the whistle goes and the lowest-ranked team left in the competition still remain, after battling to a draw at home to Curzon Ashton.

They'll go to a replay.

Westfields 1-1 Curzon Ashton

Curzon Ashton go very close to a late, late winner - Connor Hampson heads over from four yards from a corner.

That would have been rather cruel on Westfields, so late in the game.

Can they force a replay?

MK Dons 3-2 Spennymoor

Can Spennymoor pull off a huge comeback to draw with MK Dons and force a replay? They've got 5 minutes to do so...

Walsall 0-1 Macclesfield

Four minutes of the 90 are left at Walsall, where non-league Macclesfield still lead.

Latest scores

FA Cup first round

The first of the 15:00 GMT ties to finish - Braintree 7-0 Eastbourne.

That's almost half of the goals that Braintree have scored in 18 National League matches this season - fair play to them.

Rex Features

In other news, our favourite League Two striker Adebayo Akinfenwa has put Wycombe on the verge of round two, his goal has the Chairboys 2-1 up at Portsmouth.

Westfields 1-1 Curzon Ashton

Ninth-tier Westfields are edging closer to being included in the second-round draw.

One minute plus stoppage time remains in Herefordshire.

Gracious in defeat

Northampton 5-0 Harrow Borough

Unfortunately, it's looking like there will be no cup upset for Harrow Borough today. However, all credit to Northampton who have blown away the side 107 league places below them.

Getting blown away by a quality Northampton side, no shame in that! Great experience for the Boro lads! #Onwards #BBCFACup

End-to-end stuff

Cambridge 1-1 Dover

Both teams are now pushing for a late winner at the Cambs Glass Stadium. Is there to be another twist?

GOAL MK Dons 3-2 Spennymoor Town

Andrew Johnson

This could be the comeback to end all comebacks.

Spennymoor, who are in the Northern League Premier Division, were 3-0 down but Andrew Johnson has beaten three players and finished in a style Lionel Messi would be proud of.

Can they do the unthinkable and force an unlikely replay?

GOAL: Cambridge 1-1 Dover

Ricky Miller

My, what a moment for Dover! They've deserved this - they're level!

The 515 away fans are jubilant as Ricky Miller coolly tucks in.

That's not good news for Cambridge boss Shaun Derry, whose side have been having a hard time of it lately in League Two and he could badly do with a win.

GOAL: Westfields 1-1 Curzon Ashton

Adam Morgan

Curzon Ashton finally have their goal. And it is greated by a pitch invasion!

Substitute Adam Morgan pokes in from one yard after the visitors initially hit the post.

And the celebrations are wild, from the sixth-tier side.

Latest scores

FA Cup first round

One potential upset has been quashed for now - Matt Kilgallon has headed Bradford level at home to League Two Accrington.

The goal glut at Princes Park continues to deliver, but Sutton United finally have daylight - Roarie Deacon has put them 5-3 up over lower league Dartford.

Braintree had never reached the FA Cup second round before today, but they're doing it in style - Lee Barnard getting his second of the afternoon to make it 5-0 against Eastbourne.

Two Football League sides are doing exactly what's expected of them at home to non-league opponents - John Joe O'Toole has Northampton 4-0 to the good against Harrow Borough, while Shaquille Coulthirst has doubled his and Peterborough's tally in their tie with Chesham.

Huish Park
Rex Features

Walsall 0-1 Macclesfield

Walsall's record FA Cup win is a 7-0 second-round win over Macclesfield from 1997.

But there'll no repeat of that sort of scoreline today - Jon Whitney's side still trail to the side ranked 46 places below them.

Westfields 1-0 Curzon Ashton

Westfields chief executive Andy Morris - one of the founders of the club - is sat, in the second row in front of a grey, faded fence, looking like the proudest man in the world, next to BBC Midlands Today reporter Dan Pallett (who looks a little chilly - did you put enough layers on this morning, Dan?).

What a result this would be for Morris' club. It's already been an incredible year for them - the started the season with 18 consecutive wins in all competitions.

Walsall 0-1 Macclesfield

Meanwhile, Macclesfield still lead at League One side Walsall.

Now that would be some result for the non-league side!

24 minutes remain there.

Westfields 1-0 Curzon Ashton

In a rare break from Curzon Ashton pressure, Craig Jones has a shot at the other end for Westfields but his low, deflected effort is easily saved.

The hosts still lead against the side ranked 52 places above them.
