More light between Celtic and rivals

Well, what a strangely eventful night, despite a rather unimpressive performance by Celtic against Hamilton.

In the end, the Premiership leaders have gone further clear while Aberdeen and Motherwell must find another date for a game dramatically abandoned after a floodlight failure.

Not our top level - Rodgers

FT: Celtic 1-0 Hamilton

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers on BBC Radio Scotland: "It certainly wasn't at the level we have been for most of the season, but the mentality of the players was very strong.

"The pitch looks heavy and it affects the speed of our game, but give credit to Hamilton - they condensed the space in the middle of the park.

"When you are a winning team, you have to have drive and hunger and the players have that in spades.

"We just failed with that last decision in the box, but they got the game done."

Apology from Aberdeen

Aberdeen A-A Motherwell

The floodlights at Pittodrie were powered by a generator with no problems for last Tuesday's win over Kilmarnock and the weekend draw with St Johnstone, explains Aberdeen chief executive Duncan Fraser.

He told BBC Scotland: "We brought in two generators and tested them - they've been working fine for the last week and a half, but tonight the generator tripped.

"We powered it up again, but when it tripped again, we had no option but to call the game off.

"We can only apologise to both sets of supporters."

Joy for Livi and Loons

League One had looked like it was going to be extremely tight at the top, but Livingston have sprinted away from the pack and their 4-0 win at Stenhousemuir means they are now seven points clear of Airdrieonians.

Alloa Athletic are a further three points back after a disappointing home draw with Stranraer, who move above East Fife, who are now in the relegation play-off spot.

In League Two, Forfar Athletic's hammering of Annan Athletic means they move five points clear of Elgin City with a game in hand.

Positives despite the defeat - Canning

FT: Celtic 1-0 Hamilton

Hamilton Accies player-manager Martin Canning on BBC Radio Scotland: "I am pleased. I thought the boys were magnificent, they kept their shape well and held Celtic at bay.

"We put ourselves in a position to make it difficult for Celtic at the end.

"We have a big game in two days and we have to find our legs and get ready for Rangers."

No alarm bells for Celtic

Richard Wilson

Hamilton are seeing even less of the ball now. Celtic are launching attack after attack, albeit without generating clear scoring opportunities.

There has been no sense of alarm for the home side, even though they have only established a one-goal lead, since Hamilton have lacked the poise to make any headway in the final third themselves.

The expectation remains that Celtic will eventually carve out another opening, rather than suffer a setback in defence.

'The right decision' - Motherwell chief operating officer Alan Burrows

“It is outwith our control and Aberdeen’s as well. At Motherwell, we have had problems with floodlights in the past too, so they have my sympathy. Unfortunately these things happen.

"My sympathy is with the Motherwell fans and we will see what we can do in terms of helping them with travel for coming back up here for whenever the game is played again. We will discuss the options with them.

"The key thing is the safety of the players and the people in the ground.

"I think it is the right decision by Aberdeen and they made it promptly. These things happen unfortunately. We just have to get on with it.”

Accies irked, Celtic on target

HT: Celtic 1-0 Hamilton

Richard Wilson

BBC Scotland at Celtic Park

Hamilton will feel irked that Celtic's opening goal came at a time when they were looking their most lively and assertive on the ball.

Even so, once Celtic made the breakthrough, it enabled a further period of dominance and they might have scored twice again, through Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele, but both failed to hit the target.

Hamilton will try to stay focused and organised, while Celtic will continue to press and probe for openings in the second half.

It also ought to focus the minds of the Celtic defenders that Massimo Donati was allowed a free header while the game was 0-0, but he finished meekly.

HALF-TIME

Celtic 1-0 Hamilton

Almost 2-0 to the home side as Leigh Griffiths is sent scurrying through on goal again, but he pulls his effort just wide of the upright and the half ends with the striker's earlier goal separating the teams.

Questions must be asked - Miller

Aberdeen A-A Motherwell

BBC Radio Scotland commentator Liam McLeod is explaining that there had been power failure in the area earlier in the week and the club's back-up generator had held up - until the game started of course!

Meanwhile, former Aberdeen director Willie Miller says "questions must be asked" if the game was started despite problems with the power.

"You can't sweep it under the carpet," he says.
