Utd should play the under 23s in the last 3 Premier League games. Even if they don't win the final, the Europa is too destructive and we need to make a title challenge next season.

Alan, Seaton

I have supported, followed and enjoyed Manchester United since 1968, win, lose and on occasions draw. This and previous 2 seasons, United have been painful to watch, sadly, the joy has gone.

Richard.

People moaning about the performance etc need to realise our squad is very average now. Not many of our players would get into any of the other top 6 sides. Give Mourinho champions league football and the time to sign some quality players this summer and we'll be a much better team next season!

Blame it on me...

Lyon 3-1 Ajax (Agg: 4-5)

Alexandre Lacazette, Lyon forward: "We weren't far away from qualifying. We weren't clinical enough in front of goal and not effective enough defensively.

"It could have been different if I’d been fit to start the first leg. It could have been better; it could have been worse. Above all, we are disappointed with the way the first leg went. We gave it absolutely everything tonight and we were roared on by our supporters."

'Ajax have 12 days to recover'

Manchester United 1-1 Celta Vigo (Agg: 2-1)

Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho on BT Sport: "I didn't see the red card incident but Eric Bailly was phenomenal. The game was emotional for everyone. Some kept control better than others.

"Facundo Roncaglia is not new in these situations, Bailly was probably naive. We now lose a very important player for the final, and we don't have many.

"Ajax will be difficult, they are a young team, strong team, they finish the league this weekend and will have 12 days to recover. We have three matches in that time."

That performance summed up #MUFC this season: stodgy, unconvincing, SO much less than sum of their parts, but remaining on course for prize

'We suffered until the end'

Manchester United 1-1 Celta Vigo (Agg: 2-1)

Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho on BT Sport: "We were the best team in the first leg but we never kill, we never score goals related to the chances we have. It was an open game at home, all the pressure on our side.

"They were completely free of responsibility and gave us a very hard match. We suffered until the end and it was open until the last second. The boys gave everything they had. I'm really pleased for them.

"After 14 matches we are in the final. If we win the Europa League I am more than happy. It would be amazing."

Martin Walker: Manchester United looked absolutely shattered by the last 20 minutes. Too many games.

Daniel Fenwick: When a team in bottom half of La Liga has 67% possession at OT and 50% more shots then Utd have lost their identity

Fi3ld: Anyone who thinks being excited doesn't matter is wrong. United entertain. I don't wanna be a boring team. 11 draws at OT!?

Manchester United 1-1 Celta Vigo (Agg: 2-1)

Would that sort of Manchester United performance be enough to beat Ajax?

Celta Vigo had 67& of possession and 16 efforts on goal tonight.

'It was a crazy game'

Manchester United 1-1 Celta Vigo (Agg: 2-1)

Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera on BT Sport: "It was a crazy game. We were better in the first leg and should have had a better result. Tonight we suffered.

"But we are in the final, we have fought hard to get here. You cannot win a semi final easily, or be calm. We are in the final, that's what counts.

"We have played a lot of games. We know that in the league it is almost impossible to qualify for the Champions League so we will give it our all."

Ajax are a young team - they could easily freeze in that final.

Rambo rambo: Reaching a European final I should be over the moon but it feels like a loss. Heart still in my mouth.

Yullaw: THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THAT WE ARE IN THE FINAL! PERFORMANCE DOES NOT MATTER! Let's move on & win the trophy.

Dave Behard: Man United can't keep hold of the ball anymore! And, since the 2-0 win against Chelsea, United have been poor.

Manchester United 1-1 Celta Vigo (Agg: 2-1)

That's 11 draws at Old Trafford this season now. The best?

A draw at Old Trafford. Who would have thought? Congratulations to @ManUtd on making it through to the @EuropaLeague final.

They are not the most technical Man United team I've ever seen.

Mourinho is very good at setting a team up but it is not entertaining.

United have always been entertainers and even if they win the Europa League, people will say, 'well, yes they won it, but it wasn't entertaining'.

A date for your diary

Ajax v Manchester United

Wednesday 24 May. Put it in your diary.

Stockholm will host the Europa League final. Manchester United have met Ajax on just four occasions in the past.

Won two, lost two.

United ran out of pace in the last 20 minutes.

The goal for Celta came from United's lack of concentration and it became a little bit "panic stations" for the rest of the match.

Manchester United 1-1 Celta Vigo (Agg: 2-1)

John Guidetti missed two huge chances for Celta Vigo. He leaves the field with his head in his hands. The sort of night which can make, or break, a career.

Jose Mourinho had a lengthy exchange with Celta Vigo boss Eduardo Berizzo at the full-time whistle. He now is over applauding the away fans, who have been excellent.

Paul Pogba salutes the Old Trafford crowd. They are in a final but my word they made hard work of that.

Mourinho has set up the team over these two legs to frustrate Celta Vigo.

John Guidetti could have put them through then but it wasn't to be.

Celta Vigo deflated

Manchester United 1-1 Celta Vigo (Agg: 2-1)

Six or seven Celta players are lying prone on the floor, heads in hands. They can't believe it.

What a chance in the final minute!

It fell for Claudio Beauvue about six yards out and he crossed it. SHOOT! What was he doing?!

John Guidetti missed the ball across but dear me what a chance.

that would have put Celta into the final.

Richard: Stupidity strikes at Old Trafford. First, we invite pressure. Then our best defender gets himself sent off.

MakSteel: That was the best piece of attacking United have done all evening

Robert MacPhee: Well Europa league final is now anyone's guess

Manchester United 1-1 Celta Vigo (Agg: 2-1)

A stupid foul on Marouane Fellaini allows Manchester United to slow it all down. Pressure tapped.

It's bedlam

The red cards were not the end of the matter then.

An official had to keep the two players apart as they headed for the tunnel, with coaching staff from both sides also heavily involved.

One thing's for sure. If United do hang on, Eric Bailly won't be playing in Stockholm.

Lyon 3-1 Ajax (Agg: 4-5)

Three minutes of added time, Ajax down to 10 men. Lyon pouring forward at will, tension, exhaustion. Everything.

SIX minutes added on. The Celta fans are bouncing to a man and woman. They believe...

SUBSTITUTION

Manchester United 1-1 Celta Vigo (Agg: 2-1)

Chris Smalling is on for Marcus Rashford. Manchester United change gear from 'defensive' to 'containment' mode.

I dread to think what will happen to the Spanish commentator if Celta do get one more.

What goes through people's minds?

Manchester United 1-1 Celta Vigo (Agg: 2-1)

The players are still arguing and jostling as they make their way down the tunnel. This could rumble on.

Antonio Valencia definitely shoved someone over in the midst of all of that.
