Good night

And with that we bid you a good night.

The next football comes on Tuesday night when England play France in a friendly. Why? Who alone knows.

But we shall see you there!

Blast from the past

Serbia 1-1 Wales

Aleksandar Prijovic
get

I thought I recognised the name of the Serbia forward Aleksandar Prijovic who came on and made their goal. He was only on loan at my team Northampton in League One in 2009 wasn't he? He made his Serbia debut tonight.

It's a long way to the top, if you want to rock and roll...

Wales boss Chris Coleman: "It was a great point. But we were 1-0 up, they weren't peppering Wayne Hennessey. You expect a tough game here but we had chances over 90 minutes. You aren't going to come here and play open football, we did that before and you know what happened. We lost 6-1.

"I can't fault the players, they worked so so hard. Joe Ledley hasn't played for three months and he gave me 90 minutes, incredible.

"We can't seal the deal. Last campaign we saw them out but that's where we are. We weren't standing there biting our nails. It's all to play for. Serbia have got to go to Austria and the Republic of Ireland. It will go down to the wire.

"Can we bridge the gap? 100%."

Serbia 1-1 Wales

Wales have games against Austria (h), Moldova (a), Georgia (a), Republic of Ireland (h) to come.

That last game of the group looks massive. But first Wales have to be beating Austria at home next time out in September.

Aaron Ramsey

Richard: 4 games, 5 leads conceded. 8 points that we've thrown away. That being said, Ramsey was colossal. Made things happen, didn't stop running, scored the cheekiest penalty.

As it stands

Serbia 1-1 Wales

Everyone in Group D drew, so it's very much as we were.

Serbia 1-1 Wales

Can Wales reach Russia? They are four points off top spot with four games left. So yes, mathematically anyway.

The final game of the group is Wales v Republic of Ireland in Cardiff. Colossal.

FULL-TIME

Serbia 1-1 Wales

Five draws in a row. But that's a good one.

Serbia 1-1 Wales

Three minutes added on. One down.

CLOSE!

Serbia 1-1 Wales

that is a chance! yet another great ball in, Aleksandar Mitrovic is steaming on to the cross, eyes wide shut! He gets a great leap in, Wayne Hennessey doesn't know whether to stick or twist, head it...WIDE!

There is a really top-rate target man in there somewhere.

Serbia 1-1 Wales

Counter! Wales attack for the first time in a long time, Tom Lawrence runs at the Serbian defence and is tackled, the ball pops up for Ben Davies and he has to hit it. Has to be first time, but he shanks it way over the top. Tough chance but a chance.

Hold on, hold on. Wales almost there. A win would have been fantastic but a draw here is not game over.

You've done it now big man...

Wales make another change, the exciting Tom Lawrence comes on for Sam Vokes.

John Hartson

Wales seem to be holding out at the minute, the pressure has eased off - the wave of pressure Serbia were putting on them.

A point away at Serbia is not a bad result.

Serbia 1-1 Wales

Serbia continue to knock, knock, knock on the Wales door but this time Aleksandar Kolarov's cross is way too hot and goes clean out of play at the far side.

Less than 10 minutes to go...

CLOSE!

Serbia 1-1 Wales

Out of nowhere, Wales craft a decent chance! Joe Allen bursts past a man and plays it through to Aaron Ramsey, who goes for another extravagant effort but his shot with the outside of his foot is well saved at the near post.

Maybe it's not all over for the night...

Serbia top as it stands

Serbia 1-1 Wales

That goal has put Serbia back on top of the group as it stands, on goal difference from the Republic of Ireland.

It could be five draws in a row for Wales!

As it stands: Serbia 12 points, Ireland 12 points, Wales 8 points.

John Hartson

It's a wonderful finish but I just wonder if the referee will book Aleksandar Mitrovic - it's about 90 seconds of celebrating. No, the referee is not even interested in booking him.

He hasn't had a chance all night and that's what top players do - one chance and one goal.

Aleksandar Mitrovic
Reuters

Serbia 1-1 Wales

Serbia had been pushing hard for that goal for a long time but Wales looked well set. Now the momentum is all with the men in red. A point here is a brilliant result now, no worries about that.

GOAL - Serbia 1-1 Wales

Aleksandar Mitrovic

You can't say that wasn't coming.

Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who equalised in the meeting in Wales, strikes to do the same again.

Ben Davies gambles to try and cut a pass out, misses it, and Aleksandar Prijovic is in on goal, he has the awareness to slide in Mitrovic on the overlap, he skips past Ashley Williams and buries with his left foot.

MASSIVE celebrations. Flares, the works.

SUBSTITUTION

Serbia 0-1 Wales

Some tired legs in that Wales XI now, they have put in a real shift. Here's the first change, Emyr Huws on for Dave Edwards.

YELLOW CARD

Serbia 0-1 Wales

Twenty minutes for Wales to hang on. It would be a massive win, three points that would transform the group and transform their chances of reaching Russia.

Jazz Richards is booked for time wasting. That tells you all you need to know about the pattern of play.

Serbia 0-1 Wales

Ashley Williams with another block and clearance. This is a masterclass in how to defend a 1-0 lead away form home in Eastern Europe.

A niche interest, sure. But this is textbook from the Wales defence.

Serbia 0-1 Wales

The game is well poised here. Wales are set up for this all day long, men behind the ball, defenders winning headers all day long, and Aaron Ramsey a menace on the counter.. He goes on a brilliant run, beating two men and opening up a passage into the area, but his shot is blocked.

Sam Vokes is so good in the air with such a good spring, he's really improved as a player - it's difficult for him up there on his own leading the line.

CLOSE!

Serbia 0-1 Wales

There's that release valve! Wales get good territory for the first time all half as Chris Gunter motors on up the right wing. He wins a corner, which is headed over by Sam Vokes.

That was a decent chance indeed.

CLOSE!

Serbia 0-1 Wales

Oooooh, almost Leigh Griffiths-esque from Aleksandar Kolarov. He whistles a peach of a free-kick on goal from 30-odd yards but unlike at Hampden Park the ball drifts just wide.

Cracking effort.

Serbia 0-1 Wales

Wales need a release valve. The pressure is well and truly on.

PENALTY APPEAL

Serbia 0-1 Wales

Another penalty appeal, another one you have seen given...

Wales are beyond living dangerously.

Serbia 0-1 Wales

John Hartson

Ex-Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

If a penalty was given it would have been very harsh.

Serbia 0-1 Wales

Wales can't get out. It's going to be an eternal second half if this pattern of play continues. Filip Kostic, on the left wing, puts in another great cross which is headed out. The Hamburg man looks a good player.

PENALTY APPEAL

Serbia 0-1 Wales

You thought it was loud before in Belgrade?! Boiling inside the Stadion Rajko Mitic as referee Jorge Sousa says no to a penalty shout.

Dusan Tadic's cross hits Chris Gunter on the arm. He was looking the other way but Wales have got away with one there...

Slavoljub Muslin
Reuters

Serbia 0-1 Wales

Filip Kostic is a right nuisance, into the area again and another cross but this time dealt with by Ashley Williams. Wales have started the second half very, very deep. Inviting pressure.

Serbia 0-1 Wales

Could be a bombardment in the second half. Straight away Filip Kostic puts in a cracking cross from the left and Wayne Hennessey comes and takes the lot, man and ball, friend and foe, clearing with a great punch.

Serbia have scored in every qualifier to date.

KICK-OFF

Serbia 0-1 Wales

Referee Jorge Sousa was given plenty of grief by the home fans as he re-emerged for the second half. That penalty was soft.

Wales lead though! And we are up and running in the second half.

Ramsey's Panenka tribute?

Serbia 0-1 Wales

Dafydd Pritchard

BBC Sport Wales in Belgrade

The term 'Panenka' refers to a spot-kick taken by Czechoslovakia's Antonin Panenka in the 1976 European Championship final shoot-out.

Panenka chipped the ball over a hapless Sepp Maier in the West Germany goal to seal victory in the most cheeky fashion imaginable.

And where did he take that penalty? Right here, at Stadion Rajko Mitic in Belgrade.

Was that a tribute from Ramsey?

Earlier - O'Neill fuming

Republic of Ireland 1-1 Austria

The Republic of Ireland were harshly denied a late winner in Sunday's 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw with Austria, manager Martin O'Neill said.

Shane Duffy rose to bundle the ball in but referee David Borbalan ruled out the goal for a foul on Konrad Laimer.

"There's nothing wrong with it at all - he's called a foul on Shane Duffy and I can't see it," said O'Neill.

"We were very sloppy in the first half but went roaring into it in the second half and got the goal."

Tight at the top

Serbia 0-1 Wales

Republic of Ireland 12 points, Serbia 11, Wales 10.

That's how the top of Group D looks at this moment in time.

A massive win if they can hang on...

Serbia 0-1 Wales

Just seen six replays of that Aaron Ramsey penalty. Still absolutely love it.

Panenka serendipity here.

Aaron Ramsey's cheeky chip of a penalty is known as a Panenka - named after the man who made it famous, Antonin Panenka.

It was in this very stadium in Belgrade, when it was called the Red Star Stadium, that Panenka scored the winning penalty in the shootout of the Euro 1976 final against Germany.

Did Ramsey know? Was it homage? Hope someone asks him.
