'We committed some silly mistakes'

Watford 1-1 West Ham

Watford manager Walter Mazzarri speaking to BBC Sport:  "I saw Zarate in a lot of pain. Unfortunately it is not a good sign. He was also making a lot of difference on the pitch. Hopefully it is not too bad.

"He was making a difference on the pitch. If we speak about the game, I didn't like how we went down in the second half.

"We also committed some silly mistakes that we can avoid. It's not acceptable to allow them a goal on the counter-attack when you are winning 1-0. The injury didn't allow me to make all the substitutions I wanted.

"This is our first season and this season is to prepare and to grow. Year by year the objective is to make the next step forward."

'A tough game'

Watford 1-1 West Ham

West Ham United

West Ham goal scorer Andre Ayew speaking to BT Sport: "The first half, they got control. They had such a lot of pressure, we could rarely play our game.

"Second half, we came out and managed to do what we know how to do. It was a tough game. The Premier League is very difficult, espcially at this stage."

On the goal: "Sometimes that's the game. It comes, sometimes you look for any and it doesn't come. That's football for me. It was my first game back from the Africa Cup of Nations.

"I wanted to continue working hard and hopefully I can get some more goals in."

BREAKING: Vardy reacts to Ranieri's dismissal

View more on instagram

You remember when Claudio Ranieri was sacked?

Anyway, Leicester striker Jamie Vardy has finally reacted to the dismissal in an Instagram post. He explains why it took him almost two full days to do so.

I must have written and deleted my words to this post a stupid amount of times! I owed Claudio to find the right and appropriate words! Claudio has and always will have my complete respect! What we achieved together and as a team was the impossible! He believed in me when many didn't and for that I owe him my eternal gratitude. There is speculation I was involved in his dismissal and this completely untrue, unfounded and is extremely hurtful! The only thing we are guilty of as a team is underachieving which we all acknowledge both in the dressing room and publicly and will do our best to rectify. I wish Claudio the very very best in whatever the future holds for him. Thank You Claudio for everything.

'It's two points lost'

Watford 1-1 West Ham

West Ham United

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic speaking to BBC Sport: "Considering we were in good form and how well we played today, especially in second half, it’s two points dropped.

"On the other hand, considering we are playing away against a good team and we conceded an early goal, there's always a danger you will concede a second then you can lose the game.

"With 10 men, I think I have to say it it’s two points lost – yeah we lost two points, that’s my point of view, but it’s a good point. It’s hard to come back away.

"If you ask me which team today showed more quality in every department, especially on the ball, that was, especially in the second half. I told the guys we have to give them some credit.

"If I was Watford manager, I was after a penalty. Mauro Zarate went down very easy. If that was given then I'm expecting the same for us. But it didn't have to be, of course, it was not blatant.

"The red card - OK, I just spoke to the referee. He had a good game. It was a difficult game. Although Michail Antonio's reaction is an instinctive one he din't stop them gaining anything. He acted by the book and the book says it is a red card."

'We had better of first half'

Watford 1-1 West Ham

Watford goal scorer Troy Deeney speaking to BT Sport: "Both teams know that all the teams behind us are pretty close and everyone wants to win.

"It was definitely a game of two halves. I thought we had the better of the first half and they dominated the second.

"The injury to Zarate doesn't look good. I wish him a speedy recovery. It was a nice touch from the West Ham fans to sing his name.

"Hopefully he can get an MRI as quickly as possible. I thought he was lively in the first half."

West Ham deserved to take something on their level of commitment this afternoon.

They didn't look like creating anything before half-time but were much better after the break.

It was a bit of a nervy finish with them down to 10 men so all in all an exciting game.

The handbrake was off for West Ham at times this afternoon, the same for Watford - they both know they're not going down so it's just about picking up as many points as possible.

Oh what a miss! Any contact and that would've been the winning goal but West Ham get themselves a point.

Watford 1-1 West Ham

From the corner the ball pings around the area.

West Ham desperately try to clear but the ball arrives on to the head of Troy Deeney who heads down into the path of Isaac Success.

The sub's backheel from two yards out misses West Ham's upright by a foot.

Frantic finish but the Hammers earn a point.

Watford 1-1 West Ham

Fernandes appears to be OK.

Watford have a corner.

Must be seconds remaining.

Watford 1-1 West Ham

Switzerland international Edimilson Fernandes comes on for Manuel Lanzini.

Not sweet.

Watford 1-1 West Ham

There is a minute plus stoppage left. Will Watford make the most of their one-man advantage?

Watford 1-1 West Ham

Bradley Allen

Ex-QPR striker for BBC Radio London

I've completely lost count of all the yellow cards - they are stacking up.

And that's another for Michail Antonio. It's a bit silly from him and Slaven Bilic is furious.

Antonio has left the referee with no choice there.

RED CARD - Michail Antonio sent off

Watford 1-1 West Ham

Frustration from Michail Antonio?

The West Ham midfielder - probably the Hammers' best player on the pitch - falls to the ground in tussling with Isaac Success and claws the ball away from the feet of the Watford sub.

It's obviously handball. Watford players complain and no doubt remind ref Craig Pawson that Antonio had been shown a yellow earlier.

Pawson pulls out another yellow then the dreaded red.

Hammers down to 10.

Michail Antonio

Watford 1-1 West Ham

Jose Holebas is shown his 12th card of the season - it's the sixth yellow of the game.

It was Manuel Lanzini who was fouled.

Note to Watford: Don't foul Lanzini.

Watford 1-1 West Ham

That's right it's Watford's Isaac Success.

He comes on for Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Watford sub Abdoulaye Doucoure is shown yellow for pulling back Manuel Lanzini - it's the fifth booking of the game.

I smell success for one team...

On balance of play, the Hammers have deserved that. Blistering pace from Michail Antonio - he's hit it with his weaker foot but does well to keep it almost on target only for it to hit both posts.

Fortunately Andre Ayew was following in.

GOAL - Watford 1-1 West Ham

Andre Ayew

In all fairness, Michail Antonio should have his name above this bit of text.

West Ham's charge sprints forward and unleashes a cracking low drive which beats Heurelho Gomes and comes off both posts.

The loose ball conveniently arrives at the feet of Andre Ayew, who taps in eight minutes after coming on.

It wasn't an easy chance but it's the cross of the game from Aaron Creswell.

Michail Antonio will be really disappointed not to hit the target - he's been waiting for that cross all game.

Watford 1-0 West Ham

Like, really narrow.

Aaron Cresswell delivers a lovely whipped cross from the left which finds Michail Antonio. His stooping header flies millimetres past Heurelho Gomes' left-hand upright.

The Hammers are knocking.

Watford 1-0 West Ham

Cheikhou Kouyate finds himself in Craig Pawson's book after fouling M'Baye Niang.

Seonds later, Robert Snodgrass is replaced by Andre Ayew.

It wasn't Snods' day.

Bradley Allen

This is a next-goal game for both sides - Watford aiming for a second that could well put the game out of reach but I think the momentum will completely shift if the Hammers can get the equaliser.

Watford 1-0 West Ham

..but probably would have struck the post.

Watford keeper Heurelho Gomes dives heroically to his left to push away Jose Fonte's header.

That's definitely worth framing if he gets hold of the print. One to hang in the kitchen, I reckon.

Watford 1-0 West Ham

West Ham Aaron Cresswell remonstrates to Craig Pawson over the decision of not blowing the whistle after the full-back appeared to be pulled back by Abdoulaye Doucoure near/inside the area.

Zarate taken to hospital

Watford 1-0 West Ham

BT Sport, who are showing the game, announce that Watford's Mauro Zarate has been taken to hospital for a scan on his knee.

Zarate needed lengthy on-pitch treatment at the end of the first half.

Watford 1-0 West Ham

Bradley Allen

Ex-QPR striker for BBC Radio London

Niang was off balance but it perhaps was because of Kouyate leaning on him and maybe that's what has given the Watford player the benefit of the doubt.

Watford 1-0 West Ham

Daryl Janmaat is off with an injury and is replaced by Craig Cathcart.

That injury list is growing for the Hornets.

Watford 1-0 West Ham

Now then...

Six of one?

West Ham's Cheikhou Kouyate gallops into the area and appears to have been brought down by M'Baye Niang.

The replay shows that Niang has one arm around the Hammers player as he goes down. Ref Craig Pawson isn't having any of it.

In my book that a great tackle in rugby, but less so in football.

West Ham are on the front foot in these opening seconds of the second half, but fail to make anything from the early burst of energy.

We are back under way.

We'll obviously let you know if we hear anything more on Mauro Zarate's injury.

David Randall:  Never nice to see players in distress. Hoping that injury to Mauro Zarate isn't as bad as it seems. Football has no colours.

That was 11 minutes of stoppage at Vicarage Road because of the on-pitch treatment for Watford's Mauro Zarate.

Here's wishing the Argentine a speedy recovery.
