That's it for this evening - thanks for joining us for our coverage of Newcastle's win at Brighton and the rest of the EFL action.

The Magpies have gone back to the top of the Championship and taken a big step towards automatic promotion to the Premier League.

However, they have further tests to come at play-off challengers Huddersfield and Reading in the next week.

There could be plenty more twists and turns before the title is lifted in May. Good night.

Third-placed Carlisle suffer a 1-0 defeat at Cheltenham, while Portsmouth, fourth in the table, led 1-0 at home to Morecambe but couldn't hold onto their lead, as Lee Molyneux scored for the visitors late on.

Newcastle buck trend

FT: Brighton 1-2 Newcastle

Newcastle continue their fine away form, picking up their 12th win from 17 away games in the Championship.

Tonight is the first time they have won after conceding the first goal - and the first time Brighton have lost after scoring the opener.

The Seagulls had won on the previous 18 occasions they had gone 1-0 up.

A real sickener for Albion fans, as they lose for just the second time at the Amex in 2016-17. They remain six points ahead of Huddersfield, who have a game in hand

Darlow reacts

FT: Brighton 1-2 Newcastle

We knew it would be a tough game. There is so much quality throughout the squad and we rallied together at halt-time as we knew we would make chances. It is a massive win but we have to keep going as we have a tough week. We have got three points but we have a tough games at Huddersfield and then Reading.

Karl Darlow Newcastle goalkeeper on Sky Sports

Blackburn 1-0 Derby

And it's over at Ewood Park. What a massive victory for Blackburn.

Craig Conway's penalty was the difference and it moves them level on points with Bristol City who are just outside the relegation zone.

Derby are without a win in six league games.

FULL-TIME: Aston Villa 2-0 Bristol City

A huge win for Aston Villa, their second in successive games, sees them move nine points clear of the relegation zone.

Bristol City are in all sorts of trouble, only out of the relegation zone on goal difference as rivals Blackburn beat Derby at Ewood Park.

Brighton 1-2 Newcastle

The final whistle goes at the Amex - Newcastle's two goals in the last 10 minutes mean they take the points.

A great comeback from the Magpies means they go back to the top of the Championship table.

They are now two points ahead of Brighton, and eight ahead of third-placed Huddersfield.

That gives Rafael Benitez's men the upper hand in the title race - and Newcastle travel to face the Terriers on Saturday at tea-time.

Brighton 1-2 Newcastle

What might have been the last chance for Brighton goes as Jamaal Lascelles is flattened and Newcastle get a free-kick with seconds remaining.

Brighton 1-2 Newcastle

Brighton striker Glenn Murray gets a booking for a foul born from pure frustration.

Time is ticking away for the hosts.

Brighton 1-2 Newcastle

The travelling supporters are in fine voice.

Brighton haven't been able to carve out any response to that late goal and are going more direct.

Brighton 1-2 Newcastle

We are into four minutes of stoppage time at the end of the second half.

Albion boss Chris Hughton is looking a bit glum on the sidelines.

GOAL- Brighton 1-2 Newcastle

Ayoze Perez

And Newcastle grab what must be the winner!

Matt Ritchies releases Christian Atsu on the right hand side, he squares the ball for Ayoze Perez who does the rest.

The unmarked Spaniard slots into the bottom left-hand corner from just by the penalty spot and the comeback is complete.

As it stands, Newcastle are going back to the top of the Championship.

Brighton 1-1 Newcastle

Brighton make their final change, as Solly March replaces Anthony Knockaert on the right flank.

Still time for either side to grab a winner and take control of the Championship title race.

Blackburn 1-0 Derby

Into the final few minutes at Ewood Park where Blackburn have everyone behind the ball.

Derby's winless run looks like stretching to six league games, all-but ending their Championship play-off hopes.

It's more comfortable for Aston Villa, they're still 2-0 up against Bristol City with four minutes to go.

Brighton 1-1 Newcastle

After more lax play at the back for Brighton they give the ball away and Daryl Murphy strikes at goal.

However, his effort goes high and wide.

Brighton 1-1 Newcastle

Five minutes plus stoppage time remain.

Can either side find a winner at the Amex Stadium?

Brighton 1-1 Newcastle

Brighton make a change after falling behind, bringing on midfielder Beram Kayal for Sam Baldock.

Meanwhile, Ayoze Perez has come on up front for Newcastle.

GOAL - Brighton 1-1 Newcastle

Mohamed Diame

Newcastle are level, and among some of the most bizarre circumstances you'd imagine from the corner.

I think it'll go down to Mohamed Diame, but he knew little about it.

David Stockdale came out to punch the corner but his own striker Glenn Murray got there ahead of him.

The ball fell to Christian Atsu, who miscued his volley goalwards and after a deflection off a teammate it spins up of Diame's heel towards the top right hand corner.

A backtracking Stockdale can't get there and Fikayo Tomori can only head the ball into his own net from on the goal line.

That is as strange as they come, but Newcastle fans won't mind!

Brighton 1-0 Newcastle

Daryl Murphy is at it again, meeting Matt Ritche's cross from the right and heading towards the near post.

It's touched behind by David Stockdale for a corner.

Brighton 1-0 Newcastle

Newcastle striker Daryl Murphy makes his first impact, meeting Matt Ritchie's corner from the left with a firm header.

It's straight at Brighton keeper David Stockdale.

The defence had left the big Irishman unmarked there. They were lucky the weren't punished for that lapse.

Aston Villa 2-0 Bristol City

Meanwhile at Villa Park, it's all very comfortable for the hosts after those second-half goals from Jonathan Kodjia and Conor Hourihane.

Bristol City aren't offering a huge amount going forward and have still only had two efforts on target all match.

Brighton 1-0 Newcastle

Newcastle make their first change, midfielder Jack Colback being replaced by striker Daryl Murphy.

That's an attacking switch by Rafael Benitez.

Murphy has scored four goals in his previous five appearances at the Amex.

Blackburn 1-0 Derby

Blackburn are throwing bodies on the line to keep their one-goal lead in tact.

Charlie Mulgrew gets in the way of David Nugent's shot before Jason Lowe blocks Bradley Johnson's follow-up.

Derby are cranking up the pressure with 15 minutes to go.

Iron fall behind

League One latest

Dean Parrett

Scunthorpe hadn't won in five successive games coming into tonight's match against Wimbledon, and it's not looking like that run will end any time soon.

Dean Parrett has given the Dons the lead from close range, with only around 20 minutes left for the Iron to rescue a point or three from the game.

Scunthorpe will remain second as it stands, but will stay level on points with Fleetwood, while Bolton will also join those two on 61 points if they can hold onto their 1-0 lead over Bristol Rovers.

Brighton 1-0 Newcastle

Albion winger Jamie Murphy cuts in from the left flank and lets fly from 25-odd yards.

The ball goes flying over the bar.

The hosts are starting to test the Magpies defence.

As it stands they are heading four points clear at the top of the Championship.

Brighton 1-0 Newcastle

Brighton thought they had set up a counter-attack but midfielder Steve Sidwell is punished for a foul on Yoan Gouffran.

A chance for Newcastle to get the ball into the box, but Matt Ritchie's delivery is poor and is cleared by the first defender.

Chris Baber:  Nice to see ex Bristol City players coming back to haunt us. Adomah and Kodjia. Are there any more at Villa?

Ryder:  Brighton getting tired in Midfield. Need some quick changes for tired legs.

Paul Thompson:  A huge goal from Conway. Bristol City losing is massive for Rovers. Level on points with a game in hand. Mowbray revolution is on!

Brighton 1-0 Newcastle

Brighton have had their best spell of the half and have forced Newcastle back for the first time since their early chances.

Sam Baldock gets into the box and he and Jamie Murphy cause problems, but Newcastle clear.

Then Glenn Murray goes down in the box under a challenge from Jamaal Lascelles, but referee Robert Madley is not swayed by that one.

Beast Mode activated

League Two latest

Adebayo Akinfenwa

Incredible start to the second half at Accrington, where the Beast, Adebayo Akinfenwa, had scored twice in three minutes to put Wycombe 2-1 up, before Matty Pearson nods in from close range to make it 2-2.

Elsewhere, Stevenage are cruising to victory now against Leyton Orient, with goals from Luke Wilkinson and Tom Pett making it 4-1 to the hosts.

Brighton 1-0 Newcastle

Newcastle look to release Yoan Gouffran behind the Albion defence, but the forward is offside.

'Aston Villa in control'

Aston Villa 2-0 Bristol City

Brendon Mitchell

BBC Sport at Villa Park

The chat among the press pack at half-time was that Jonathan Kodjia's second half couldn't possibly be as bad as his first - and that theory has been proved right emphatically in the first 15 minutes since the restart.

First the former Bristol City forward brilliantly guided Albert Adomah's near post cross into the far corner, and then his tenacious work in dispossessing Bailey Wright led to the second goal from Conor Hourihane.

Both teams have also hit the woodwork since the break, but it's Aston Villa who are very much in control now.

Jonathan Kodjia
Rex Features

Brighton 1-0 Newcastle

Brighton win another corner, but eventually Newcastle clear their lines.

The hosts have not mounted too many attacks this half - it's been the visitors who have been dictating the play and probing in search of an equaliser.

Albion will remain a threat on the counter-attack though.

GOAL - Aston Villa 2-0 Bristol City

Conor Hourihane

Bristol City are in real trouble at Villa Park.

Former Barnsley midfielder  Conor Hourihane gets his first goal in an Aston Villa shirt, firing in from close range after Albert Adomah had a shot blocked.

Bristol City are level with 22nd-placed Blackburn as it stands. Can they rescue anything from this game?

Brighton 1-0 Newcastle

Jonjo Shelvey does strike the free-kick and bends the ball around the wall.

But David Stockdale scrambles across his goal to his left and saves it well inside the post.

A decent strike, but not good enough to really test the keeper.

Shrewsbury back on top

League One latest

Rohan ince

Shrewsbury waste no time getting back on level terms with Charlton, as Tyler Roberts fires in to make it 2-2.

Moments later, it's 3-2 to the hosts, as Shaun Whalley slots in from inside the box.

Elsewhere, Swindon have equalised against visitors Gillingham, Rohan Ince turning in from close range for the hosts.
