Two huge results

Bristol City

But that just about concludes tonight's EFL action. It is a night to remember for Bristol City and Reading.

Make sure you come back tomorrow as the action continues.

Until then, thanks for joining us and good night.

Still to come...

Saturday's EFL action

With three of the Championship's top six playing tonight, you could be forgiven for thinking the best of the weekend's EFL action will be over before we even make it to Saturday. But you would be wrong, wrong, wrong.

We've got two tasty derby matches kicking off at 13:00 GMT, with Nottingham Forest hosting rivals Derby County and Preston North End travelling to neighbours Blackburn Rovers.

Then, from 15:00 GMT, we'll have live text commentary of all seven Championship games, the pick of the bunch probably being leaders Newcastle United's trip to Birmingham City.

And, last but not least, Leeds United play fellow promotion chasers Brighton & Hove Albion in an absolutely belting fixture at Elland Road.

Excited? Yeah, us too.

'We're still in a great position'

FT: Bristol City 4-0 Huddersfield

This soon after the game it's never easy to explain what just happened. We were not able to deliver what we usually do. It shouldn't happen but it happens, that's football. We're still in a great position and there's still nine games to go.

'I fancied us'

FT: Bristol City 4-0 Huddersfield

Before the game I fancied us. I know my team and my players and I know when we're at it. I thought our big players - Korey Smith, Gary O'Neil and Lee Tomlin - were fantastic for us tonight.

I thought we were fantastic from start to finish. Remembering what a good side they are, I have nothing but praise for my players tonight. We scored four good goals.

Jacob Bentley-York: We were in desperate need for that result to go our way tonight. Credit has to go to Al-Habsi who was undoubtedly man of the match.

Mark Sean:  Well it's getting to that time of season in the Championship; sqeaky bum time - are Wednesday gonna blow it? My team Derby blew play-offs weeks ago. I really fancy Fulham to sneak in there, on a roll at moment.

Paul Wright: Life as a Reading FC fan is a stressful one.

Full-time in League One

FT: Port Vale 2-1 Shrewsbury

In League One, Port Vale have earned a valuable 2-1 win against fellow-strugglers Shrewsbury. That result could prove to be huge come the end of the season.

Goals from Sam Foley and Ryan Taylor were enough to give Vale all three points, before Louis Dodds grabbed what proved to be a consolation goal for Shrewsbury.

FT: Bristol City 4-0 Huddersfield

That result has sent Bristol City flying up the Championship table and into 19th, two points above Blackburn, who slip into the relegation places.

As I mentioned earlier, Huddersfield remain in third and are now closer to fourth-placed Reading than they are Brighton in second.

The gap to the top two remains six points.

Saved, saved and saved again

FT: Sheff Wed 0-2 Reading

Ali Al Habsi
Rex Features

What a night for Reading, and what a night for Ali Al Habsi! His saves secured their win, let there be no doubt about it.

Sheffield Wednesday were arguably by far the better team. But they just couldn't get past this man.

The win sees the Royals climb to fourth, five points above Wednesday.

FULL-TIME

Bristol City 4-0 Huddersfield

A stunning victory for Bristol City, who climb out of the relegation zone and seriously hurt Huddersfield's promotion hopes.

Bristol City 4-0 Huddersfield

So what does all of this mean for Huddersfield's season? Going into tomorrow they'll be six points behind the top two, which sounds an awful big gap to claw back.

We're into the last minute, Bristol City knocking the ball around like relegation couldn't be further from their minds.

SUBSTITUTIONS (Bristol City)

Bristol City 4-0 Huddersfield

In amongst all the madness, a few Bristol City changes to tell you about.

Gary O'Neil, Tammy Abraham and Lee Tomlin are off, Josh Brownhill, Jens Hegeler and Aaron Wilbraham are on.

Five minutes left in Bristol.

FULL-TIME

Sheff Wed 0-2 Reading

Astonishing finish at Hillsborough! Wednesday threw keeper Keiren Westwood up for a last-ditch corner, the ball was cleared and Reading broke down the other end and the Owls couldn't get back in time to stop Adrian Popa slotting into an empty net.

The whistle goes. It is a huge, huge win for Reading.

GOAL: Bristol City 4-0 Huddersfield

David Cotterill

David Cotterill
Rex Features

... Which David Cotterill fires above Danny Ward and into the top corner.

Bristol City are winning 4-0. Wow.

PENALTY TO BRISTOL CITY

Bristol City 3-0 Huddersfield

Oh my, and now Joe Bryan's gone down and City have a penalty...

GOAL: Sheff Wed 0-2 Reading

Adrian Popa

The keeper was up and Reading countered to score into an empty net!

Bristol City 3-0 Huddersfield

Well, this is just silly. The struggling Robins are now 3-0 up and the even sillier thing is that their big centre-half Aden Flint has scored with a brilliant, between-the-legs flick.

It's been a bad, bad night for Huddersfield Town.

Aden Flint

CLOSE!

Sheff Wed 0-1 Reading

Ali Al Habsi saves from Callum McManaman yet again!

The Owls have a corner. They're sending keeper Keiren Westwood up for it...

Sheff Wed 0-1 Reading

Reading fans, look away now, because if there's going to be late drama, the hosts have made a habit of delivering it this term...

Sheffield Wednesday have scored more goals in the 90th minute or later than any other Championship side this season (nine, in fact).

Is a 10th one on the cards here? They're throwing everyone forward...

GOAL: Bristol City 3-0 Huddersfield

Aden Flint

Sheff Wed 0-1 Reading

Four minutes of added time will be played at Hillsborough. Sheffield Wednesday are desperate for a goal!

Bristol City 2-0 Huddersfield

We're into the final 15 minutes at Ashton Gate.

Bristol City have thrown away plenty of leads this season - they were 2-0 up at home to Reading and lost, 3-0 ahead at Derby but drew - so it's still difficult to say this game is anything other than well and truly alive.

They'll be pleased to see Philip Billing's latest long-range shot fly over the bar, though.

GREAT SAVES!

Sheff Wed 0-1 Reading

Reading keeper Ali Al Habsi is staking a huge claim for Man of the Match.

He performs heroics once again, this time to deny winger Will Buckley from a tight angle.

Moments later he denies Buckley once more and Jordan Rhodes can't tuck in the rebound for Wednesday.

What this?! Another save! Glenn Loovens denied this time. Then Buckley denied again. Al Habsi is Reading's hero!

Sheff Wed 0-1 Reading

Glenn Loovens

Plenty of physicality about the game at Hillsborough now. Reading are content to just defend this lead now. Everyone is getting stuck in.

We've got around 10 minutes remaining plus stoppage time in this one.

Bristol City 2-0 Huddersfield

Goodness me, chances at both ends!

First Huddersfield fire in a couple of low crosses which Bristol City scramble desperately clear, with Joe Lolley coming closest to squeezing a shot through on goal, before Lee Tomlin then fires an effort wide as the hosts break.

Ross Jones: Whoever loses out of Reading and Sheffield Wednesday tonight won't make the play-offs.

Greg Double: We're boring, we lack incision, our goal difference is awful and we're in the playoffs. We're probably going up #ReadingFC

Stephen Noakes: Considering our away record against the top half, I'm a terrified Reading fan.

Reading are moving into fourth spot and six-points clear of seventh-placed Fulham if results stay as they are...

SUBSTITUTION

Sheff Wed 0-1 Reading

Sam Winnall is being withdrawn. On comes Steven Fletcher for Sheffield Wednesday.

CLOSE!

Sheff Wed 0-1 Reading

Wednesday substitute Callum McManaman sees his shot cleared off the line by Reading's Liam Moore!

Owls fans will be starting to fear this just isn't going to be their night...

Bristol City 2-0 Huddersfield

Bristol City fans, for now, can breathe a sigh of relief. Tammy Abraham's back on and fit to continue.

I can't make out whether this is Callum O'Dowda celebrating his earlier goal or Abraham's return to the field...

Tammy Abraham
Rex Features

Bristol City 2-0 Huddersfield

Now, this isn't looking too good for Bristol City and Tammy Abraham.

The Chelsea loanee has fallen awkwardly after an aerial challenge and has stayed on the deck. The physio is on and attending to the Robins goalscorer. A muscle pull or cramp?

The home fans, chanting the striker's name, will desperately hope it's the latter.

Sheff Wed 0-1 Reading

Reading keeper Ali Al Habsi is there to save a Jordan Rhodes header again.

Moments later, at the other end, John Swift fires narrowly wide for the visitors.

Not a bad game, this.

Bristol City 2-0 Huddersfield

Frank Fielding hasn't been called into action too many times in the Bristol City goal tonight - but he has to be alert to law two gloves on that sighter from Philip Billing.

It's been scrappy since the break.

YELLOW CARD

Sheff Wed 0-1 Reading

Jaap Stam
Rex Features

Jaap Stam's side have been penalised for time wasting. Jordan Obita is the man who goes into the referee's book for taking his time over a throw.

YELLOW CARD

Bristol City 2-0 Huddersfield

I'm pleased to report that Huddersfield midfielder Jonathan Hogg, stretchered off after a 14-minute stoppage during the opening period, is conscious and talking according to sources at Ashton Gate. Let's hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Philip Billing, who came on for Hogg, has also just been booked for a poor challenge on City left-back Joe Bryan.

SUBSTITUTION

Sheff Wed 0-1 Reading

Reading now make a change of their own, as Roy Beerens goes off and Lewis Grabban comes on.

Less than half an hour remains at Hillsborough.

Bristol City 2-0 Huddersfield

Oh my, it should be 3-0. Danny Ward has just kept Huddersfield in this game, no doubt.

Tammy Abraham's cross finds Callum O'Dowda in space and with the goal at his mercy, but the Republic of Ireland winger's downward header into the turf is tipped onto the crossbar by the goalkeeper.

Super save.

Callum O'Dowda
Rex Features

SUBSTITUTION (Sheff Wed)

Sheff Wed 0-1 Reading

The hosts make their first change, as winger Callum McManaman comes on for David Jones in midfield.

KICK-OFF

Bristol City 2-0 Huddersfield

We're in for a late finish here, aren't we?

At just gone 21:00 GMT the second half gets under way at Ashton Gate.

Sheff Wed 0-1 Reading

Jordan Rhodes flicks a header wide from a dangerous Barry Bannan set-piece delivery.

The hosts are having a good spell. They just need a goal.
