Over and out

A point which is better for Swansea but not great for either.

Come and join the fun at Wembley here - where Coventry have just gone 2-0 up - or at the Emirates here.

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Swansea City

Swansea manager Paul Clement: "We lacked a bit in the final third. We peppered their box with set pieces but we couldn't find a way through.

"We got a point, we wanted more, we move on to the next game.

'We couldn't get over the line'

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Swansea City

Swansea manager Paul Clement: "Any point you get is valuable but we are disappointed not to win the game.

"They had a big chance at the end but they didn't have an attempt on target in the whole game so a defeat would have been harsh.

"You never know how valuable that point could be. It is tight at the bottom, there are eight games to go and we remain very positive.

"The players have been brilliant for me, they have executed the plan well but Middlesbrough defended very well and we couldn't get over the line."

'The spirit is terrific'

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough caretaker manager Steve Agnew: "You could see that the fight is there. The spirit is terrific.

"Swansea have been in the Premier League for seven years, and this is our first season. It was difficult for us to sustain attacks but we kept going right to the end.

"You'd expect Rudy Gestede to score at the end but when the next chance comes I'm sure he will.

"It's another point and we will regroup."

'Back into training tomorrow'

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Leon Britton

Swansea City midfielder

I couldn't watch that last Middlesbrough chance - you expected the net to bulge.

Today definitely feels like an opportunity missed. It was a good chance to put some points between us and a direct rival.

But we will go back into training tomorrow and can't be too down. I suppose with 90 seconds to go we could have taken nothing from this game and we took a point.

Oh the disappointment...

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

I think it's fair to say Victor Valdes was very disappointed by Rudy Gestede's failure to score that golden chance late on...

If Rudy Gestede had scored that header right at the end, Middlesbrough would be just two points behind Swansea, with a game in hand.

'You can see why they are down there'

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Steve Claridge

Ex-Leicester striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

This was the way we imagined this game would pan out to be honest. Middlesbrough were difficult to break down but didn't pose a threat until the last five minutes when they looked like they could go on and win it.

There was a nervousness from Swansea and that filtered through to the crowd - they were up for it, don't get me wrong but you can see why these teams are in the position they are in.

'We needed to win that'

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Leon Britton

Its alright for us because we keep them five points away from us but overall we know we needed to win that with Spurs coming here in the middle of the week.

I'm disappointed if I'm honest.

'The big man is kicking himself'

Middlesbrough captain Ben Gibson: "It's a good point, you can't get beat by the teams around you. We'll take the clean sheet, take the positives from it.

"We came here wanting to win, we have to start winning games but it's important not to start this week with a defeat.

"The big man [Rudy Gestede] is kicking himself after that chance, but he's been brilliant since he came in. It's a team effort."

39 without a win

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Rudy Gestede has now gone 39 Premier League games without a win (last won v Bournemouth, August 2015); extending the longest winless run in the competition by a player.

The new Nigel Quashie.

'It took Boro 90 minutes to have a go'

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Steve Claridge

Ex-Leicester striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was a really good second half. There was tempo and urgency.

It took Middlesbrough almost 90 minutes to decide they want to try and give it a go.

FULL-TIME

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

What a chance for Rudy Gestede and Middlesbrough. He'll be thinking about that all the way home.

CLOSE!

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

BURY THAT!!!

How has he missed? Alvaro Negredo plays a dream of a cross in from the right, with the outside of his left foot, it's delicious, and Rudy Gestede just has to head it home from a few yards out.

But he puts it wide! That was the chance, the moment which could have blown the bottom of the table open.

CLOSE!

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Chance! Luciano Narsingh is through on goal but takes a heavy touch and the chance is gone, the ball then comes back in and Leroy Fer must score for Swansea but ends up bundling the ball over the top, he was under pressure from a defender who got a vital touch to it.

So many corners and free kicks - this is where we miss Llorente - without him we just aren't the first to get to the crosses and test Valdes.

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Rudy Gestede, on a yellow card, is perhaps lucky not to see a second for a rather ugly lunge. Swansea keep on being gifted free-kicks and they may just make one count.

CLOSE!

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Now or never for Glyfi Sigurdsson as he lines up the free kick - it deflects narrowly wide! That was very close indeed.

And from the corner Alfie Mawson has a header blocked!

So nearly the winner.

'I guess the manager seems happy as they are'

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Leon Britton

Swansea City midfielder

I am a bit surprised there hasn't been a change here. You've got Baston and Montero on the bench but I guess the manager seems happy as they are.

You would think he would bring one of them on to inject a bit of pace and energy.

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Swansea pump two set-pieces into the area, Boro head them clear. You get the feeling we could play all day and not see a goal.

But hang on, play is called back for a foul RIGHT on the edge of the area. Step up Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Boro face Hull and Burnley in their next two matches. Would seven points from these three games be enough? You have to score a goal to win a game though.

And they don't look like doing that.

'They need this draw'

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Steve Claridge

Ex-Leicester striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's so important Middlesbrough don't get beaten here.

You have to say, they need this draw and to win the next two games if they want to stay up.

Are they capable of going to the next two places and scoring goals?

The unbalanced nature of this team has been a problem for a long time and they have got to get over it.

PENALTY APPEAL

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

It's a really poor game, that's what it is Leon. Swansea midfielder Leroy Fer wants a penalty as he flicks a cross onto the arm of Ben Gibson, no chance of getting that.

'On edge'

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Leon Britton

Swansea City midfielder

It is really nerve-wracking sitting here watching this. You can tell the players and the crowd are on edge.

I think it needs a change of formation to pick up a little more pace and to get the crowd back but it will be interesting to see what the manager will do in the last 15 minutes.

What a wonderful collage. Gylfi Sigurdsson's curler is the closest we have come to a goal all day. And it wasn't even that close really.

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Another corner for Swansea. A header by Alfie Mawson is probably our most likely route to a goal in this game.

YELLOW CARD

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Into the last 20 minutes. Both teams desperately need a win here but you wouldn't really know it. It's gone very flat indeed. Alvaro Negredo is shown a yellow card as Swansea then force a corner.

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough compete for a drop-ball which is one of those moments that falls into a grey area between what's in the rules and what's 'in the spirit of the game.'

Antonio Barragan gets the ball and motors down the wing before being fouled, and the home fans and staff are not happy with the Boro defender. Play to the whistle!

'They were told to be wary of Traore'

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Leon Britton

Swansea City midfielder

It's starting to liven up here now - it was a slow start to the half but Middlebrough are looking dangerous with Adama Traore down the right.

The crowd are starting to lift here but we need more players in the box to finish these moves off.

At half time, the manager mentioned we were in the final third a lot but we need three players in the box rather than leaving Ayew in there on his own. Defensively he also said to be wary of Traore and to be aware of the long ball too.

GREAT SAVE!

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Give it to Gylfi and watch what happens! Swansea get their gifted playmaker on the ball, he buys himself a yard of space just outside the area, tricking his way past Marten de Roon and arcing in a curler which is flying into the top corner until Victor Valdes makes a fine save.

Fabio is the latest man to go down with an injury, it's been a real stop-and-start game. The Brazilian takes a very heavy landing after going up for a header and he may need some concussion checks. He wants to carry on, that's clear.

Adama Traore gets away from Alfie Mawson despite the defender's lunge on halfway, his cross is a good one, Adam Clayton nods it back and Alvaro Negredo can't force it home.

Mawson is booked.

'Much better'

Steve Claridge

Much better from Swansea here. They've brought more tempo, more urgency and they are moving the ball quicker - much better.

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Swansea left-back Martin Olsson has been as attacking an option as anyone in a white kit so far today and again he pops up on the overlap, skimming a low ball through a ruck of bodies but there's nobody there to reach it.

Fernando Llorente, Wilfried Bony, Jason Scotland would have buried that...

Goal at Wembley

Gael Bigirimana has swept Coventy into an early lead at Wembley - you can follow that game in full over here.

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Scruffy is a good word for it Leon. Sloppy is another. Boro don't score goals and don't concede many either. It is no surprise that this is 0-0.

'I've been down to the changing room'

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Leon Britton

Swansea City midfielder

The first half wasn't too bad, we dominated possession well.

I've been down to the changing room to see if they will come out with something extra. I was hoping someone would take the game by the scruff of the neck and maybe come up with a moment of individual brilliance but this is looking scruffy.

CLOSE!

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

This game needs something to liven it up, and it could well be Adama Traore. He takes a fine touch to go around Martin Olsson and hits a low shot which skids wide of the far post. That was not far away at all.

Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Shot on target! Just about. Gylfi Sigurdsson miscues a chip/shot from 25 yards which Victor Valdes has time to watch all the way into his gloves.
