'Spurs deserved to win'

Tottenham 2-0 Arsenal

Arsenal

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, speaking to BBC Sport: "Yes, we did lose the game in a very quick space of time, and after that it took us time to recover. But overall Spurs deserved to win, we have to accept that and analyse it well. Of course it is very disappointing, but the target at the beginning of the season is not to finish above Spurs, it is to win the league.

"They deserve it. We have a cup final to play, we have to fight for a place back in the top four. We have to give everything in every game. We couldn't afford to lose the game today we didn't score today, we didn't score at Palace or West Brom, we have to play more and create more than we did today."

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, speaking to Sky Sports: "Yes, overall they deserved the win. Because first of all they scored two goals and we didn't but it was an even game until the first goal. Then straight away after that we conceded the penalty. You could see we were affected by that and Spurs looked more dangerous than before.

"And as we didn't come back to 2-1 they were comfortable. We did not create enough but that is down to Spurs as well, they were sharper than us physically and we were too restricted in our game. At the moment we are not back to the level of confidence we need to play in the way we can. The desire was there but we lacked something today."

On Spurs finishing above Arsenal:

"Well done to them, but when you start the championship the target is not to finish above Spurs, it is to fight for the title. In 20 years it happened once. Mathematically it has to happen once. We are not happy with it but we don't compare ourselves to Spurs, we compare ourselves to where we want to be."

'It is fantastic, but we want to win the title'

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to BBC Sport: "I am so pleased. It was a very important game and it was a complete performance and I am very happy for our fans.

"We were better in the second half, putting on more pressure and creating more chances. The race for the title is down to four points and we will see what will happen.

"We have a shape that we can change. The formation is not so important as how we play on the pitch. The challenge is to win, but we are flexible this season and can change during the game. This is a very good thing for us.

"In Italy and Spain, when you are playinig for the title, the teams play at the same time. Here in England it is different with the fans wanting to watch the teams live. We understand that.

"To be above Arsenal for the first time in 22 years is fantastic for our fans. it is fantastic for us too, but we want to win the title."

Can we play you every week?

Tottenham 2-0 Arsenal

Harry Kane has scored in every Premier League fixture he’s played against Arsenal, netting six goals in five games.

Kane has only two goals in eight Premier League games against the other sides in the top six this season, but both goals have come against Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger says that his side never recovered from the double blow of conceding those two goals in three minutes.

'A fantastic afternoon'

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a fantastic afternoon. I'm very happy for the players and the fans. To win against Arsenal in the last derby at White Hart Lane, it was emotional for everyone. We tried to pay the supporters back for the energy they gave us. But the most important thing was to keep the gap with Chelsea. We have to keep focussing on our game and now we can say that we are more mature than last season. Today was another chance to see the team learning and improving.

"I can understand our fans being excited about finishing above Arsenal, but I don't feel the same because for me it is about trying to win the title. It is so important now to try and win trophies, that is our aim. I think still we are in the race. It's true that it will be difficult but we will see what happens."

Spurs simply too strong for Arsenal

Phil McNulty

BBC Sport chief football writer at White Hart Lane

Spurs fans have stayed behind inside White Hart Lane in numbers to celebrate that derby win and the fact they will now finish about Arsenal - and why not?

This was another very impressive performance that demonstrated that Mauricio Pochettino's team are currently in much better shape than The Gunners.

Too powerful. Too good.

Dele Alli

Tottenham's Dele Alli, speaking to BBC Sport: "I have to blame myself a bit for my header at the far post - I was kicking myself for missing that - but we dominated from the start.

"It's a huge win for us and the fans. We just have to keep looking to improve. We fell off at the end of last season so it's important we continue to build on what we're doing."

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has done well at wing-back. But his attempted clearance for Dele Alli's goal was not one to see again...

'It is clear for us now'

Petr Cech

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech speaking to Sky Sports: "I am very disappointed. This is not the game to lose. It was a huge game for both teams and they managed to win. At half-time we were in the game and wanted to improve."

On his defence's reaction after his initial save in the build-up to the opening goal: "When I saved the ball from Eriksen I saw the ball going away and I thought we were safe but then it ended in the back of the net. I haven't seen the replay yet.

"We need to win the remaining games and hope that some of the others slip up. It is clear for us now."

Simon Taylor: Perfect! Winning the last NLD at The Lane. My grin is wider than my face. COYS.

Craig Smith: Not sure how that could have went worse for Arsenal. Both Spurs golden boys scored, outplayed across the pitch, little fight.

Jaleel Oladipo: Arsenal need to rid themselves of deadwood next season including Arsene. Spurs need to retain their core, especially Mauricio.

'We were great, from Hugo to Harry'

Tottenham 2-0 Arsenal

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a massive game in so many different ways. We showed from the start we wanted to win more than them, and that we want to stay in the title race. It was a great performance throughout the team, from Hugo to Harry."

'What a day'

Harry Kane

Tottenham striker Harry Kane, speaking to Sky Sports: "Incredible. We obviously wanted to finish the last north London derby here on a high note and we did that. We worked hard, we created the better chances, what a day. A great weekend for us.

"It was a penalty for me. I was clipped, it was a foul. I went down the middle earlier in the season against Arsenal which is probably why Petr Cech stayed there this time. We're only thinking about the title race - the fans having bragging rights is just an added bonus."

'It's good for the fans' to finish above Arsenal, says Harry Kane. But he insists that the team are focused on the title race still.

Tottenham 2-0 Arsenal

Mauricio Pochettino shakes the hand of every player as they leave the pitch. That's nine league wins in a row for Spurs.

In fact their season has been superb. It's all credit to Chelsea that they are still on top given the form of Tottenham.

Four draws in a row in October and November look damaging.

Tony Mullin: Spurs are a very good side, just not as good as flaky, flaky Arsenal have made them look.

There hasn't been a lot in it but Tottenham have been the better side, especially in this second half.

Spurs have got Christian Eriksen, Harry Kane and Dele Alli. Arsenal have got Alexis Sanchez. That pretty much sums it up.

Victor Wanyama has been superb this afternoon, and here is cutting out a pass, playing a one-two with Dele Alli and then teeing up Harry Kane. Great play.

Arsenal go direct and almost have some joy, but Hugo Lloris races out to head clear. Almost done.
