As it stands

FT: Burton 1-2 Ipswich

BBC Sport

And here is the bottom six. It is mighty close down there.

Bristol City and Blackburn were the big winners today.

As it stands

FT: Newcastle 1-1 Leeds

BBC Sport

Here is how the top six looks then, after that result at St James' Park.

Monk hails Leeds 'spirit'

FT: Newcastle 1-1 Leeds

Leeds boss Garry Monk tells Sky Sports:

"We started the game very well. But then they started to bring it more towards out goal more.

"We conceded a lot of set-pieces, but defended them brilliantly.

"Spirit and competitiveness is a big strength of ours and you saw that clearly today. It is the spirit of the group. For that effort, they deserve it."

FT: Newcastle 1-1 Leeds

Having seen a replay though, I'm sure Newcastle will be asking themselves: Who was marking Chris Wood??!

The league's most potent finisher was completely on his own in space in the area.

FT: Newcastle 1-1 Leeds

Newcastle won't believe they didn't win tonight. They had 22 shots to Leeds' four.

But Rob Green made at least three fine saves and the Leeds defence put their bodies on the line to keep themselves in the game at times.

Burton 1-2 Ipswich

Away from that late drama at St James' Park, Ipswich held on to beat Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium.

It was a frantic finish, with Burton hitting the bar late on, but Mick McCarthy's side all-but secure survival by moving nine points clear of the drop.

Burton are 21st and in big trouble, just two points above Blackburn.

Leeds up a place

FT: Newcastle 1-1 Leeds

That point lifts Leeds up to fourth, above Reading on goal difference. The Royals play tomorrow.

Newcastle, in second, are eight points above third-placed Huddersfield, who have a game in hand. But it was so, so nearly a 10-point gap for the Magpies.

That draw also leaves Brighton four points clear the at top. The title is in the Seagulls' hands.

'We fight until the end'

FT: Newcastle 1-1 Leeds

Leeds goal scorer Chris Wood tells Sky Sports:

"Thankfully I tapped it away. It is always a tough place to come, so we are delighted.

"[Rob] Green was fantastic today. The back four have been magnificent all season.

"We fight until the end and it shows what we are about."

Wood's 28th of the season

FT: Newcastle 1-1 Leeds

He only needed one chance. Chris Wood's incredible season continues.

And that could prove to be the goal that secures Leeds a play-off place, come the next few weeks.

Newcastle 1-1 Leeds

Leeds snatch a point!

Newcastle 1-1 Leeds

Newcastle look to hit back but Mo Diame runs the ball out of play and that might be that.

Wood rescues a point

Newcastle 1-1 Leeds

Leeds pile everyone forward and they have an equaliser! You just couldn't see that coming!

But Chris Wood only needs one chance! He superbly tucks in from Kemar Roofe's dangerous, near-post cross.

Newcastle are kicking themselves. Leeds are delirious!

GOAL: Newcastle 1-1 Leeds

Chris Wood

Late drama!

YELLOW CARDS (Newcastle)

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

Jonjo Shelvey is booked, seemingly for time wasting.

Then, as Leeds look to break, Jack Colback is booked for a cynical foul to halt the attack.

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

Newcastle have the ball in the corner and are keeping it there, frustrating Leeds.

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

Leeds haven't really built up any momentum or pressure, to suggest a late equaliser here. Not yet, anyway.

And time is quickly running out.

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

Five minutes of added time have been indicated at St James' Park.

GOAL - Burton 1-2 Ipswich

Lucas Akins

Perhaps this one isn't all over?

Lucas Akins pulls a goal back for Burton from the penalty spot after Luke Varney was fouled.

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

Rob Green makes another good save, this time to get to DeAndre Yedlin's cross. Then the hosts make another change, as Mo Diame comes on for Ayoze Perez.

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

As things stand, Leeds are on course for a third loss in four games and will be stay fifth in the table, just two points above seventh-placed Fulham, who are in form.

It is very, very close in the play-off race. Fourth-placed Reading, who have a game in hand and play Villa tomorrow, are only three points above Fulham.

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

Aleksandar Mitrovic climbs highest at a Newcastle corner but he heads wide.

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

Matt Ritchie has been very busy once again. A creative display from him.

He goes off to warm applause, to be replaced by DeAndre Yedlin.

GOAL - Burton 0-2 Ipswich

Freddie Sears

Game over at the Pirelli Stadium?

Freddie Sears has doubled Ipswich's lead following a swift counter-attack.

A win would move Ipswich nine points clear of the relegation places with four games left while Burton would be deep in trouble, just two points above the drop in 21st.

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

Charlie Taylor goes in late on Newcastle's Matt Ritchie near the touchline and gets a talking to from the referee.

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

Leeds bring on Charlie Taylor for Gaetano Berardi.

Then the hosts bring on Jack Colback for Issac Hayden in midfield.

Now will we see Leeds go for it at the other end? Will they be able to, with Newcastle so on top?

The race for the play-offs is getting tense and the visitors could use any points they can get.

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

Newcastle's Jonjo Shelvey gets his free-kick up and over the wall but off target.

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

The visitors bring on Souleymane Doukara for Liam Bridcutt while Newcastle wait to take the free-kick.

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

Now Newcastle have a free-kick six yards outside the penalty area as Kalvin Phillips goes into the referee's book.

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

Magnificent, reaction save from Rob Green to deny Ayoze Perez from yards out. Great stuff.

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

Newcastle break quickly, looking for the second, but Matt Ritchie's low square ball is cut out by Pontus Jansson.

The noise around St James' Park is deafening!

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

It is the Newcastle captain's third goal of the season and surely his most important.

'It's been all Newcastle'

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

Steve Stone

Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

Newcastle deserve it, they've been the better team.

It's been all Newcastle with all the tempo, all the flair, there was no way they could keep it out, the pressure they were under.

Lascelles heads Magpies ahead

Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

After a Newcastle corner is initially cleared, the ball comes back into the box, it is headed back across goal and there is Jamaal Lascelles, who does really well to rise highest inside the six-yard box to nod in.

Rob Green got a hand to it and clawed the ball away - but it had already crossed the line.

Newcastle finally, finally, find a way past this battling Leeds defence.

GOAL: Newcastle 1-0 Leeds

Jamaal Lascelles

There's the breakthrough!

Newcastle 0-0 Leeds

This time Rob Green is beaten, but Pontus Jansson saves Leeds.

Aleksandar Mitrovic got the better of Luke Ayling and dinked the ball over Green, but Jansson scampered back to stop the Newcastle striker tapping into an empty net.

Newcastle 0-0 Leeds

The crowd has been confirmed as Newcastle's highest of the season: 52,301.

Second-tier leagues around the rest of the world look on in envy...

T.K: Agree w/ Alex (see 20:38). Green was fantastic at Griffin Park more than a week ago. If it was not for him Leeds would have conceded 4 or 5.

Rob Green has been very solid so far today.

Newcastle 0-0 Leeds

Newcastle left-back Paul Dummett drills in from the left but Rob Green holds the save.
