Slovenia next for Scotland

We'll be back with live text and radio coverage of Scotland's World Cup qualifier against Slovenia on Sunday evening, please join us then.

Scotland affected by poor start - Strachan

FT: Scotland 1-1 Canada

Scotland coach Gordon Strachan on BBC Radio Scotland: "It's one of the best decisions we've made as the coaching group in the SFA by playing this game.

"We found out so many things tonight. It's very hard for players who are not playing regularly to turn on the magic and feel really good about themselves.

"So, we learned that lesson, the lesson that you really can't mis-pass the ball so many times in the first 10 minutes and expect to then go and play, really, that well because you lose a bit of confidence.

"I thought we could've trusted each other better with the ball.

"Because of our first 15 minutes, giving the ball away, I thought we got a bit negative."

That's a performance devoid of quality.

FULL-TIME

Scotland 1-1 Canada

It ends in a draw after a scoreless second half.

Canada will take confidence from their performance but Scotland will be disappointed in theirs.

The Scots must improve if they are to get the win they need in Sunday's World Cup qualifier against Slovenia.

Arfield makes way

Charlie Trafford replaces Scott Arfield for Canada.

CLOSE!

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Scotland almost ahead as Leigh Griffiths crosses low for Jordan Rhodes, whose touch lets him down in the six-yard box.

ADDED TIME

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Three minutes of stoppage time begins.

Chances at both ends

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Fraser Aird shoots wide with another effort for Canada.

Scotland quickly get the ball forward and both Jordan Rhodes and Leigh Griffiths have half-chances but the visitors eventually get the ball out for a corner.

Willie Miller

Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

I don't think you take anything out of it. It's not the ideal warm-up for such an important game [against Slovenia on Sunday].

Griffiths effort

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Leigh Griffiths - looking a bit frustrated - tries to give Scotland some impetus by collecting a pass on the right edge of the box and shooting low towards the near post but the effort is wide.

Selection dilemmas

Scotland 1-1 Canada

How will tonight's performance influence Scotland coach Gordon Strachan's selection for Sunday's meeting with Slovenia?

It's been one of the flattest second halves I've watched this season

GREAT SAVE!

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Fraser Aird is looking for a second goal and the Canada midfielder's shot from range is powerful and on target, forcing Allan McGregor to tip over. Fine effort and a terrific save.

Substitutions

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Simeon Jackson is replaced by Ben Fisk for Canada.

Scotland also make a change with Hibernian's John McGinn on for Tom Cairney.

Hoilett chance

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Canada's Junior Hoilett finds space around 20 yards out but his effort is high and wide. A pass may have been the better option.

Chances few and far between

Scotland 1-1 Canada

The substitutions have interrupted the flow of this game.

Leigh Griffiths spots a through ball for Robert Snodgrass but the midfielder's touch lets him down and Canada goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler collects.

Canada debut for Corbin-Ong

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Leigh Griffiths comes in to collision with Canada's Maxim Tissot and needs treatment on a head knock before continuing.

Tissot does not recover from how he landed and is replaced by La'Vere Corbin-Ong, who makes his Canada debut.

More Scotland substitutions

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Scotland introduce forwards Leigh Griffiths and Jordan Rhodes from the bench in place of Steven Naismith and Chris Martin.

GREAT SAVE!

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Barry Bannan is next to have an effort at goal for Scotland. His bending shot is beaten away by Jayson Leutwiler and the midfielder's follow-up is off target.

Mulgrew chance

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Centre-half Charlie Mulgrew finds himself in an advanced position on the left and beats his man.

The Blackburn defender has few options in the middle and shoots, only to see it blocked.

Scotland need more presence in the box.

Set piece chance

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Robert Snodgrass wins a free-kick for Scotland and takes it himself, lifting the ball in from the left.

It's an awkward height for Christophe Berra, whose header goes high up in the air before being collected by Jayson Leutwiler.

Canada press

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Fraser Aird leads another Canada advance and Simeon Jackson is found wide on the right.

The forward tries a shot from a tight angle and it is well off target. He should have passed to a team-mate.

Scotland wasteful

Scotland 1-1 Canada

The Scots are seeing plenty of the ball at the start of the second half and there's lots of space for them to exploit in the Canada half but their passing is poor and slow.

Hoilett off target

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Canada have the first effort of the second period with Junior Hoilett dragging his effort wide of Allan McGregor's goal.

KICK-OFF

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Canada get the second half under way, with the visitors replacing goalkeeper Simon Thomas with Jayson Leutwiler.

Scotland substitutions

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Barry Bannan and Andy Robertson are coming on for Scotland at the start of the second half with Oliver Burke and Lee Wallace making way.

First-half worries for Scots

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Brian McLauchlin

BBC Sport Scotland at Easter Road

"A nervy 45 minutes for Scotland with Canada proving to be no pushovers. The positives for Gordon Strachan in the opening period are few and far between. Ikechi Anya and Tom Cairney are the two Scots who have shown their worth but worryingly there are many more negatives for the Scotland coach to be concerned about.

"The centre-back pairing of Christophe Berra and Charlie Mulgrew is clearly not working with Lee Wallace all at sea. For the visitors, Fraser Aird and Scott Arfield have been the stand-outs and Canada can count themselves unfortunate not to go in with a half-time lead."

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Steven Thompson

Former Scotland striker on BBC Sportsound

It's been a flat performance from Scotland, too many under par.

HALF-TIME

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Level at the break. Scotland certainly improved as the half wore on but it's not been the performance that the home fans were looking for.

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Willie Miller

Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

We can't defend like this on Sunday

CLOSE!

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Marco Bustos bends an effort wide of the Scotland goal after another fine move from the visitors, with Fraser Aird again troubling the home defence.

All square

Scotland 1-1 Canada

Scotland just about deserve to be level but Canada have certainly made an impression in the first half and the hosts' defence has never looked comfortable.

GOAL Scotland 1-1 Canada

Steven Naismith, 35 mins

Scotland's pressure eventually tells with Steven Naismith diverting Tom Cairney's shot over the line.

Naismith had attempted to convert Lee Wallace's cross in the build-up and Canada could not clear their lines, allowing Cairney to get his effort in.

Anya impresses

Scotland 0-1 Canada

Ikechi Anya has been Scotland's best player in the first half and another one of his crosses forces a corner, from which Christophe Berra heads wide.

GREAT SAVE!

Scotland 0-1 Canada

First real chance for Oliver Burke to run at the Canada defence and the winger gets away a shot that Simon Thomas blocks. Better from Scotland.

Scotland 0-1 Canada

Willie Miller

Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

They're growing in confidence, the Canadians. Scotland have a lack of leadership. You need better performances from the players out there in blue and white.

CLOSE!

Scotland 0-1 Canada

Almost a second for Canada and Fraser Aird as he curls a shot wide of Allan McGregor's goal.

Scots search for equaliser

Scotland 0-1 Canada

More pressing from Scotland with Lee Wallace cutting back for Oliver Burke but Canada manage to clear.
