'Only in England will you see this support'

Chelsea 3-0 Middlesbrough

Antonio Conte is getting a lot of love on social media after going over to the Middlesbrough fans to applaud them for their support.

Here's what he had to say about it: "Only in England you can see this support. I've not seen it before. It's great to see a team fight with all of their strength. They went down and the supporters stayed there. This must be an example for other countries. For this reason, I felt in my heart I should go and clap the Boro support."

What a thoroughly decent man.

'We must try in the next game to become champions'

Chelsea 3-0 Middlesbrough

Chelsea

Antonio Conte speaking to Match of the Day: "We must be pleased. It was a great performance, my players showed commitment, work-rate for three important points. At this stage it was important to win and exploit Tottenham's defeat. Now, another step to the title. We have to rest well and prepare for West Brom.

"This is my first season in England in a tough Championship. I'm delighted for my players, they deserve this. We are showing that we deserve to win the league.

"We must try in the next game to become champions. West Brom will want to play a good game against us, but we are ready."

Jack Emmett-Hall: Class from Antonio at the end, claps the Middlesbrough fans and gives handshakes to all their players. Great performance by us but Middlesbrough's problem all season has been scoring goals. Gestede was an awful signing.

Paul Nicholas: Conte is a class act for applauding our supporters, but seriously we deserved to go down.Clear-out needed and hopefully promotion next season.

James Alexander: Brad Guzan, Adama Traore and Rudy Gestede - And the moral of the story is if you sign relegated players you'll get relegated!

''We've wasted an opportunity'

Chelsea 3-0 Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough captain Ben Gibson speaking to BBC Sport: "After the highs of last season, to be honest we've wasted an opportunity to play in the best league in the world.

"We have to put it right and make sure we come back stronger. The chairman Steve Gibson and those fans, they deserve Premier League football. People say he's the best chairman in the country and our fans were singing until the end there."

'People told me I should leave'

Chelsea 3-0 Middlesbrough

Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas on Sky Sports: "It's been a difficult year for me. I'm used to playing a lot but I feel I have matured a lot.

"Many people told me I am not the type of player for Antonio Conte and I should leave but I like challenges. I hadn't played every game but I think I have played in the last 20 games. When I have been on the pitch maybe my contribution is better than a full season."

'I've just come away from a silent dressing room'

Middlesbrough boss Steve Agnew: "I'm frustrated and disappointed. We've just come away from a silent dressing. We were well organised but we didn't get the foot-hold in the game.

"Chelsea being Chelsea pushed us back and at half-time, we gave ourselves a mountain to climb.

"We've had 36 games and two to go. It's been a tough season. It wasn't just tonight it's been ongoing. We haven't scored enough goals.

"The most important thing at the moment is the club. It's a terrific club and it's about how we reflect over the summer. We need to make sure Boro bounce back very quickly."

'Big final on Friday'

Chelsea 3-0 Middlesbrough

Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas speaking to BBC Sport: "We are close and in football nothing is done until it's done. Hopefully on Friday we can have the title. It would be amazing to do it Friday - the quicker the better.

"Today is a big step forward. Nothing is done yet and it's a big final on Friday."

Chelsea's fans have grown to adore their charismatic manager Antonio Conte - and it was his name that rang out around Stamford Bridge in the closing minutes.

The Italian still found time for a warm embrace and consoling words for Middlesbrough's interim manager Steve Agnew as he came to terms with relegation and he also went to applaud the away fans after the final whistle.

A class act.

'The lowest point of my life'

Ben Gibson

Middlesbrough captain Ben Gibson speaking to Sky Sports: "It's not just tonight, it's a full season. From top to bottom we haven't been good enough. Players, staff, myself.

"They were much better in every department. It could have been 4,5,6-0. It was the lowest point of my career. We've got to put it right.

"In fact it's the lowest point of my life, not just my career. It means that much.

"The fans didn't stop singing, wherever we've been this season they've been the same. The fans deserve Premier League football and we have to find a team to do that

"We have to reflect on what's gone wrong."

Chelsea 3-0 Middlesbrough

Ben Gibson, Boro captain, has just given a really candid interview to Sky Sports. You can tell he's in a lot of pain about the club's relegation, being a local lad who was in the team which got promoted last season.

Best bits coming up now...

Chelsea 3-0 Middlesbrough

Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder and man of the match Cesc Fabregas is told on Sky Sports that his first assist has been taken away from him, because it took a deflection off Fabio.

"What?!" he says. "That was meant for Diego Costa all day long."

Everything went exactly to order didn't it.

From minute one, it was a real celebration. They are going to win the title and they are going to enjoy it for the rest of the season.

I tell you something though - football fans never fail to surprise.

The Middlesbrough fans could have come here with their heads hung low but they have been chanting and singing all match and have had a real sense of humour about themselves.

The Middlesbrough players go over and give a big hand to their travelling fans who have endured a lot tonight, and this season.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte goes over and does the same, and shakes the hands of the Boro players, before going for selfies with the little Blues supporters waiting patiently in the stands.

The man is all class, in my humble opinion.

Relegation confirmed

I have never heard it like this here before. Not only have the players been up for it, the fans have been excellent.

It's a celebration here at Stamford Bridge tonight.

Chelsea 3-0 Middlesbrough

The Chelsea fans are all out of their seats to give their appreciation to manager Antonio Conte. He reciprocates with vigor.

On the pitch, Patrick Bamford has been booked for a tackle near the byeline.

The resulting free-kick comes to nothing.

Middlesbrough make some headway up the left flank before being stopped in their tracks.

They try down the right now but it's blocked off there, too.

Chelsea regain possession. Boro are trying but are getting nowhere fast.

SUBSTITUTION

Chelsea make their final substitution and the crowd love it.

Fantastic save. A really good strike from Moses but that was a wonderful save from Guzan.

GREAT SAVE!

Brad Guzan's gappy legs have been up for discussion tonight but they've just done a wonderful job of saving from Victor Moses.

Middlesbrough are having a nice passage of play here.

Bamford links up with Negredo but then he gives the ball away and Chelsea march forward again.

Willian feeds Fabregas, who is given a free run to pass to Pedro, who shoots over the bar.

Diego Costa and Brad Guzan have clashed knees and both look in quite a lot of pain.

But they're staying on for now. Instead, Chelsea take off Eden Hazard and bring on Willian.

Really patient. It's a lovely 1-2.  A really good finish, a well worked goal and no less than this performance deserves tonight.

Eden Hazard is fouled

Hazard is so brave when he is flying through players like that. He almost encourages the opposition to put in those big aggressive challenges and is willing to put himself in that danger.

Fabio had no choice but to put in that challenge and it's because of Hazard's bravery.
