'Great entertainment for the punters'

Watford 3-3 Liverpool

Dion Dublin

Former Leicester & Man Utd forward on Final Score

Not a bad start to the season, is it? Goals all over the place!

I think Watford deserved the point today - Liverpool played the better football but Watford forced them all the time and made them make mistakes.

Honours even and great entertainment for the punters.

'Fair result'

Watford 3-3 Liverpool

Watford

Watford boss Marco Silva to BBC Sport: "I think it’s a fair result. We had a very good first half, a good intensity like I wanted.

"I didn’t like the first 25 minutes of the second half. We expected a good reaction from Liverpool but we needed to be better. We made mistakes. But we reacted well.

"Our fans pushed our players on. We had some small injuries. Our fans helped the team. We need to show this attitude and commitment in all our games."

Silva said he had not seen whether their equaliser was offside, but added: "Until the end of the market, we’ll do more [signings]. The board knows what I want to improve the squad."

'Focus on available players'

Watford 3-3 Liverpool

Liverpool

A little more from Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who was asked by Sky Sports about Coutinho:

"I cannot say a lot about it. I am responsible for the whole team. I need to be focused on the players who are available. I have no influence on the players who aren’t available."

'We should have won'

Watford 3-3 Liverpool

Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp told BBC Sport: "We were unlucky in the end. The equaliser was offside. It’s obvious because the linesman is on the line. He needs to see it.

"Watford's first goal was a good cross and a good run. That’s just good. Well done really. The first half I wasn’t too happy with.

"We passed but couldn’t see what we actually wanted. The second half was a lot better. We forgot to close the game. We defended a little deep. We have to push up. Both teams struggled with 90 minutes, it’s the first game. That’s normal.

"I cannot change it [the late goal]. We would have had defensive areas we need to work on if we’d won 3-2. We were the better team, we should have won."

'Jurgen Klopp will be disappointed now'

Watford 3-3 Liverpool

Martin Keown

Former Arsenal defender on Football Focus

There's been a bonanza of cash spent on players and a bonanza of goals. It's set pieces again for Liverpool, and you've got to get that balance right as a manager.

Of course, be organised but be detailed. Which type of manager are you?

The champions last year Chelsea had the best balance. Liverpool didn't have that, Arsenal looked rocky last night. Jurgen Klopp will be disappointed now and will be thinking how do we keep conceding from set pieces?

Watford 3-3 Liverpool

Former Liverpool players Jamie Carragher and Jamie Redknapp are at each others throats on Sky Sports, properly bickering over the goals the Reds conceded this season.

Oh, this is great TV.

The art of defending seems non-existent'

Watford 3-3 Liverpool

Matthew Upson

Former Brighton defender at Vicarage Road for 5 live Sport

Jurgen Klopp will be very unimpressed with the finish to this match. Liverpool were ahead still creating chances, and should have finished it.

But the Reds' defence was so slack, particularly from corners, and more worryingly several defenders seemed far from keen to actually head the ball.

The art of defending seems non-existent so far in the league this season.

Watford 3-3 Liverpool

"Unlucky", "offside" are the words used by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp after that result.

No mention of, "I need a new defence" though.

Full quotes to come from the German.

Rae: Watford 3-3 Liverpool. Sorry Klopp, but that performance is simply sackable, no excuse saying you don't need more defenders.

'The Premier League has kicked off with a real bang'

Watford 3-3 Liverpool

Derek Payne

Former Watford midfielder on BBC Three Counties Radio

They have got a point against Liverpool in a six-goal thriller.

Liverpool stepped up a gear in the second half, they missed a whole host of chances.

Watford's scrambling equaliser in extra time caused chaos for Liverpool to earn Marco Silva's side a hard-earned point.

Follow that everyone else!

The Premier League has kicked off with a real bang. Fantastic game here, Watford a little fortunate in that second half because Liverpool caused them so many problems.

FULL-TIME

Watford 3-3 Liverpool

Another Premier League thriller.

No dream debut for Mohamed Salah as Miguel Britos's injury-time goal denies Liverpool victory.

First job for Jurgen Klopp to do in the morning: Sign a defender or four.

A winner to come...?

CLOSE!

Watford 3-3 Liverpool

Oh my!

Watford almost get the winner as Richarlison meets Nordin Amrabat's cross, but the Brazilian's header goes just wide.

He then has to take treatment from the physio after a knock to the head from Joel Matip's challenge.

'It's Britos who stabs it home'

Watford 3-3 Liverpool

Matthew Upson

Former Brighton defender at Vicarage Road for 5 live Sport

Unbelievable, to score so late! I thought it was a poor delivery from the corner but Wijnaldum stooped and headed the ball really poorly. All he needed to do was get it clear.

Ultimately, it's Britos who stabs it home.

GOAL - Watford 3-3 Liverpool

Miguel Britos

Watford
BBC

WATFORD LEVEL IN INJURY-TIME.

Liverpool fail to deal with Jose Holebas's corner, as Georginio Wijnaldum boots his clearances at Nordin Amrabat.

From a tight angle, the Dutchman shoots towards goal as the ball comes off Simon Mignolet's hand an onto the crossbar.

It falls onto the goalline for Miguel Britos who heads in.

Vicarage Road goes wild, Jurgen Klopp slumps into his seat.

Was it offside.

Jose Holebas puts in the free-kick which Younes Kaboul heads towards goal, but Simon Mignolet punches it away.

The Belgian then makes an even better stop, diving high to his left to put Miguel Britos's strike away.

Watford 2-3 Liverpool

Joe Gomez's first action is to foul Richarlison deep in the final third.

What can Watford make from this?

SUBSTITUTION

Watford 2-3 Liverpool

Mohamed Salah looks a great proposition for Liverpool and he picks out Sadio Mane.

The two Africans have combined well today.

Mane pulls the ball back onto the edge of the box for Georginio Wijnaldum, who scuffs his first-time shot wide.

That is Salah's last action as he makes way for substitute James Milner.

Four minutes remaining plus stoppages.

Watford 2-3 Liverpool

Again, Mohamed Salah is threatening the Watford goal, but this time Heurelho Gomes beats him to the ball on the edge of the box.

Speedy stuff from the Watford goalkeeper.

SUBSTITUTION

Watford 2-3 Liverpool

First change for Liverpool.

Divock Origi gets a hug from manager Jurgen Klopp and replaces Roberto Firmino for the final 10 minutes.

'We thought last season was blighted with injuries'

Watford 2-3 Liverpool

Derek Payne

Former Watford midfielder on BBC Three Counties Radio

A groan has just gone round Vicarage Road because Watford have another man down and it is Younes Kaboul. Watford have already used their three substitutes.

We thought last season was blighted with injuries, but we don't want to have to play the last 10 minutes with 10 men.

Nothing can be done in terms of reinforcements because their hands have been played.

Watford 2-3 Liverpool

Watford boss Marco Silva stands on the touchline and shuts his eyes thinking, 'why meeee?'

His defender Younes Kaboul receives treatment from the physio and jogs back into the action.

Watford 2-3 Liverpool

Another injury?? Surely not.

This time defender Younes Kaboul is stricken for Watford.

They have already made all three substitutions.

'Liverpool much more of an attacking threat'

Watford 2-3 Liverpool

Matthew Upson

Former Brighton defender at Vicarage Road for 5 live Sport

Liverpool have been more on the front foot since the interval - I was disappointed with them in the first half as they were lacking the energy I'd usually associate with a Jurgen Klopp team.

But they're now much more of an attacking threat.

CLOSE!

Watford 2-3 Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has scored one, but missed a couple of sitters.

This time the speedy winger is played in on goal by Sadio Mane.

The Egyptian bears down on goal, but plonks his right-footed shot into the side netting. Poor.

'Can they keep the back door closed?'

Watford 2-3 Liverpool

Derek Payne

Former Watford midfielder on BBC Three Counties Radio

Can Watford fashion a chance? Can they keep the back door closed?

Watford 2-3 Liverpool

Jose Holebas strikes a low shot wide of goal.

Speculative.

Skipper Troy Deeney, alongside new signing Will Hughes, watches on from the stands.

15 minutes for the hosts to find an equaliser.

Watford 2-3 Liverpool

Nearly a howler.

Simon Mignolet shouts "keepers" as a long ball is played forward by Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Joel Matip ducks and his goalkeeper makes a hash of it, dropping the ball inside the area, but luckily for him no Watford player can get his foot on the end of it.

Mignolet can gather at the second attempt.

'No defender seems capable of taking responsibility'

Watford 2-3 Liverpool

Matthew Upson

Honestly, whenever the ball is wide or it's a corner I'm expecting the attacking side to make contact. No defender seems capable of taking the responsibility of picking a man, getting to him, using your body properly and dealing with the threat.

I used to do team drills all the time under a manager like Toy Pulis at Stoke. We were drilled in how to prevent an attacker taking control of a high ball.

A defence's priority is to be in control whereas today there's been so much static play, which means defenders stand no chance of winning duels.

Watford 2-3 Liverpool

England bowler Steven Finn, sat in the second row next to the dugout, shouts "come on ref" as Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp refuses to give the ball back to the opposition.

You don't see ungentlemanly conduct like that in cricket, do you?
