Goodbye for now

Talking of Glasgow derbies, join us again on Friday as Partick Thistle host champions Celtic in the Premiership.

But, for now, I'm signing off after another long and thrilling night of Scottish football.

Tasty quartet of ties

The reward for a Dundee derby win is a difficult home tie against holders Celtic for Neil McCann's Dark Blues.

Hibs will be pleased to be drawn against the only Championship side left in the competition, albeit Livingston are unbeaten so far this season.

Last year's runners-up, Aberdeen, have it tough again, away to Premiership rivals Motherwell.

But the tie of the round is arguably at Firhill, where Partick Thistle, who swept aside St Johnstone last night, host a Glasgow derby against a Rangers side who also found their shooting boots tonight.

FULL-TIME Ross County 2-3 Motherwell

That last-ditch miss by Jamie Lindsay proves crucial as Ross MacLean's composed finish in the second half of extra time is enough for Motherwell to secure that final place in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Stephen Robinson's side will host Premiership rivals Aberdeen in the next round.

GREAT SAVE!

Ross County 2-3 Motherwell

Trevor Carson makes an outstanding save from close range to deny Jamie Lindsay and County a dramatic equaliser.

The on-loan Celtic midfielder should have levelled.

Difficult whoever we get - McInnes

FT: Hamilton Academical 0-1 Aberdeen

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes on BBC Radio Scotland: "It was a difficult game.

"Hamilton have a brilliant attitude. They make the game untidy at times and don't give you a minute.

"But I thought, once we got the goal, that settled us down.

"Hamilton kept us on our toes until the end.

"By and large, pleased to get a clean sheet and win at a difficult venue.

"Away from home against either Ross County or Motherwell will be difficult again."

We were absolutely brilliant - McCann

FT: Dundee 2-1 Dundee United

Dundee manager Neil McCann on BBC Radio Scotland: "I thought we absolutely dominated the match.

"We knew United, like any team, would have a spell.

"Disappointed with the goal, but overall I thought that was a flattering scoreline.

"I thought to a man we were absolutely brilliant.

"I am delighted we have a home tie, but we've drawn the strongest side in the country.

"We enjoy this and tomorrow we concentrate on playing Hamilton next."

Lots of positives for United boss

FT: Dundee 2-1 Dundee United

Dundee United manager Ray McKinnon on BBC Radio Scotland: "I think the first 30 minutes, Dundee were better than us.

"We moved our players around and we scored a very good goal.

"The second half was more even, but we have undone ourselves by slack defending.

"We had chances, but we lost by fine margins.

"Congratulations to Dundee, but we can take lots of positives from this."

GOAL Ross County 2-2 Motherwell

Craig Curran

Craig Curran scores from the penalty spot and it is all level in Dingwall.

County must be favourites now to progress with Well down to 10 men.

A home tie against Aberdeen awaits the winners.

Ross County 1-2 Motherwell

Ross County have a penalty and Charles Dunne is sent off for Motherwell after handling the ball on the goal line.

Quarter-final draw shortly

The draw for the quarter-finals is to come shortly, but who will be the eighth and final team to make it - Ross County or Motherwell?

Aberdeen, Dundee and Rangers, have joined holders Celtic, Hibernian, Championship outfit Livingston and Partick Thistle in the draw.

FULL-TIME Dundee 2-1 Dundee United

Two fabulous goals give Dundee quick revenge over their city rivals, who won the penalty shoot-out at the same venue to top their qualifying group.

A fully-deserved win it was and not just because of the quality of the goals from Faissal El Bakhtaoui and Paul McGowan.

FULL-TIME Ross County 1-1 Motherwell

It's another 30 minutes in Dingwall as it finishes all square and we head into extra-time.

Dundee 2-1 Dundee United

Scott McDonald chests cleverly down to Paul McMullan, but the United winger's curling effort directed at the far post is a couple of feet over.

United's last chance?

FULL-TIME

Rangers 6-0 Dunfermline Athletic

Big win for Rangers with Alfredo Morelos scoring twice in the rout against Dunfermline.

Kenny Miller, Bruno Alves, James Tavernier and Daniel Candeias were also on target in a comfortable win for the hosts against their Championship visitors.

Hamilton Academical 0-1 Aberdeen

Good work from Grant Gillespie as the midfielder creates space for himself, but his shot is just past the post.

Hamilton's best chance of the second half so far.

Dundee 2-1 Dundee United

United squander a great chance for a second equaliser.

Dundee goalkeeper Scott Bain and defender Kevin Holt get into all sorts of bother under pressure from Paul McMullan, who helped them along with a bit of a push before setting up Billy King.

However, the winger fails to find the net for a second time tonight as he drags his shot wide of the unguarded net from 15 yards.

Hamilton Academical 0-1 Aberdeen

Aberdeen search for a second goal. Andrew Considine puts Greg Tansey's cross wide of the post, then Greg Stewart is picked out by Miles Storey but can't finish.

Hamilton Academical 0-1 Aberdeen

Graeme Shinnie forces a decent save from Hamilton goalkeeper Gary Woods as the Dons try to put the tie beyond the home side.

GREAT SAVE!

Dundee 2-1 Dundee United

Faissal El Bakhtaoui lofts a superb cross into the United penalty box and Marcus Haber's header from eight yards is destined for the far corner of the net until on-loan Southampton goalkeeper Harry Lewis palms it into the air.

GOAL Rangers 6-0 Dunfermline Athletic

Alfredo Morelos

Alfredo Morelos scores his second of the night, following in on the rebound after James Tavernier's effort is parried by goalkeeper Sean Murdoch.

There are 10,472 fans at Dens Park tonight by the way.

Ross County 0-1 Motherwell

Great chance for Ross County's Alex Schalk from an Andrew Davies pass, but the forward puts it over the bar from six yards.

YELLOW CARD

Dundee 1-1 Dundee United

Dundee's Roarie Deacon goes into the referee's book and it is a strange one.

Defender Jamie Robson does well to recover just when the winger threatens to break clear.

The frustrated Deacon crashes into a tackle but appears to take the ball only to be shown the yellow card.

GOAL Rangers 5-0 Dunfermline Athletic

Daniel Candeias

Another player gets his maiden Rangers goal.

Daniel Candeias fires in a free-kick to extend the hosts' lead.

Hamilton Academical 0-1 Aberdeen

Xavier Tomas heads wide from a corner as Hamilton threaten, then Nicky Maynard - still searching for his first Dons goal - shoots wide for the visitors.

Dundee 1-1 Dundee United

Paul McMullan's low drive into the Dundee penalty box just evades Scott McDonald as two of United's summer signings go close to putting the visitors into the lead.

Dundee 1-1 Dundee United

Roarie Deacon shows great skill to prevent the ball crossing the by-line before weaving past his marker and firing a drive that was heading for goal if it had not deflected off a defender.
