'We have to learn'

Newcastle 2-3 Leicester

Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez on the club's position, two points above the relegation zone: "I said it could be like this. We have to understand that the only way [to improve the situation] is to work harder and not to make these kind of mistakes.

"We have to learn and have to have more experience to manage the time that we do things.

"We work very hard. We have a young group of players, they do their best."

'A fantastic feeling'

Newcastle 2-3 Leicester

Leicester City

Leicester manager Claude Puel, speaking to Match of the Day: "(We had a) fantastic, positive attitude. It is difficult. After a good first half our start to the second half was not enough. We came back with the second goal. It was a fantastic move and a fantastic goal. We deserved this result and now it is important to continue from this result.

"We played against a good team. They played with in a fantastic atmosphere and it was difficult. We showed fantastic spirit.

"It is a fantastic feeling at the end with the third goal and we deserved it."

'Not our best game but fantastic spirit'

Newcastle 2-3 Leicester

Leicester City

Leicester manager Claude Puel, speaking to BT Sport: "It's a good result for the last three games but it's important to consolidate our position in the table and continue this work

"It was a difficult game and not our best game because we were up and down. The first half was good but the beginning of the second half was difficult. We scored a terrific second goal and came back after we conceded again with a fantastic spirit.

"It's amazing to see my players with this positive attitude.

"It's a good win away and we go next game to Southampton, a difficult game too and it will be important to recover."

'Goal a result of lack of experience'

Newcastle 2-3 Leicester

Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez, speaking to Match of the Day: "It was another mistake (Leicester's third goal). We have to learn and have more experience and manage it better.

"We have seen two or three situations with the same kind of goals. It is sometimes a lack of experience.

"The way we concede, for confidence, it is difficult but we have to keep going. We have to improve the things we are not doing well at the moment.

"These kind of mistakes, you cannot make in the Premier League and we are doing it week in, week out."

David Penn: Newcastle to finish bottom and be relegated yet again. I think the investors will be looking for a safer bet and will walk away - and I've been a supporter for 45 years.

'Fortunate but we deserved it'

Newcastle 2-3 Leicester

Leicester City

Leicester captain Wes Morgan, speaking to BT Sport: "We had lot of possession and a lot of shots on goal. We could have got more in the first half. It was a good game and to get the goal at the end was fortunate but overall we deserved it."

On the team's slow start to the game: "We expect better of ourselves. It took us 10 or 15 minutes to get into the game. It is something we will look at on the training field.

On the team's rise up to eighth in the table: "We had a tough start. No one gave us credit for the tough start. We didn't start well and since we have started to improve and look much better. Once you pick up a few wins it builds momentum."

Right, I'll be bringing you plenty of reaction to Leicester's 3-2 victory over Newcastle, starting with Foxes captain Wes Morgan...

I can, however, put this Alan Shearer tweet in...

Safe to say he's not impressed.

'A magnificent game'

Newcastle 2-3 Leicester

John Hartson

Former Arsenal striker at St James' Park for 5 live Sport

Everyone knew it was going to be a long, hard season for Newcastle. They've played really well today but they've been outdone by a team with a lot quality.

It was a magnificent game between two teams who showed a lot of endeavor, they were going end to end and it was a great advert for the Premier League. They've shown plenty of character so far this season Newcastle, but whether that's going to be enough to keep them in the Premier League I don't know.

Newcastle 2-3 Leicester

Solid work from Leicester, though, after that early Joselu goal for the hosts. A couple of great goals from Mahrez and Gray, before Perez's unfortunate own goal sealed it.

The Foxes are up to eighth after their third consecutive victory.

Claude Puel's revolution marches on.

FULL-TIME

Newcastle 2-3 Leicester

No time for Newcastle to salvage anything as Leicester ruin their 125th anniversary celebrations.

That's the first time Rafael Benitez has lost three straight home games in the Premier League. No points from Bournemouth, Watford and Leicester is a very poor return and leaves the Magpies just two points above the relegation zone.

Newcastle can't get anything doing, Leicester are doing a terrific spoiling job in midfield.

Gary Flintoff

BBC Radio 5 live

The Leicester fans up at the back of the massive stand behind the goal are making plenty of noise. They have had a great night out in Newcastle. They are a long way from the pitch, but I am sure they are kicking every ball with minutes remaining.

Any way back for Newcastle?

'Very cruel on Newcastle'

Newcastle 2-3 Leicester

John Hartson

Former Arsenal striker at St James' Park for 5 live Sport

It's very, very cruel on Newcastle.

They were in the ascendancy, Leicester get the break and Vardy holds the ball up well before passing it to Okazaki in the area. Perez tracks back, like all good strikers do, but he tries to poke it wide of the goal and, unfortunately for him, it ends up in the net.

SUBSTITUTION

Newcastle 2-3 Leicester

More time management from Leicester as Leonardo Ulloa replaces Jamie Vardy, whose wait for a 50th Premier League goal goes on.

For the hosts, Aleksandar Mitrovic is on for Joselu.

SUBSTITUTION

Newcastle 2-3 Leicester

Christian Fuchs is on for Riyad Mahrez as the Foxes look to protect this lead.

GOAL - Newcastle 2-3 Leicester

Ayoze Perez (own goal)

Dearie, dearie me.

The Leicester counter-attack seems to break down in midfield but Riyad Mahrez gets hold off it and spins a ball out to Jamie Vardy down the left.

The England striker can't get beyond the defence but does brilliantly to turn back inside and square the ball for Shinji Okazaki.

The Japanese forward decides to take a touch, inviting Ayoze Perez in to try and nip it away, but the Newcastle forward just ends up poking the ball into his own net.

A dire goal to conceded and plenty of the home fans stream towards the exits.

Newcastle 2-2 Leicester

Another Newcastle attacks breaks down as they overrun it in the area.

Here comes Leicester back the other way...

Newcastle 2-2 Leicester

Newcastle deal with the resulting corner and surge forward on the counter-attack but Leicester scramble well.

Terrific noise inside St James' Park as we enter the final five minutes.

Newcastle 2-2 Leicester

Mahrez belts a free-kick from deep into the area, Darlow rises to grab it but it flicks off his fingers as he falls under a challenge.

No free-kick though and Leicester have a corner to Newcastle's bewilderment.

'Newcastle growing in confidence'

Newcastle 2-2 Leicester

John Hartson

Former Arsenal striker at St James' Park for 5 live Sport

You feel there's a winning goal in this game. On the pitch, when you come back from a goal behind from 1-0 or 2-1 you get that feeling of ascendancy in the game and a bit more confidence that you can get that winning goal.

Newcastle 2-2 Leicester

Mikel Merino thinks he's won a free-kick for a foul by Shinji Okazaki near his own corner flag but the decision goes the other way.

Leicester fire it in but a tame effort is gathered by Karl Darlow.

CLOSE!

Newcastle 2-2 Leicester

And Newcastle almost take instant advantage of Leicester being temporarily down to 10 men.

Dwight Gayle picks up the ball on the left side of the area, holds off his man and slides an effort narrowly wide of the far post.

A huge bandage applied, Okazaki soldiers on.

Newcastle 2-2 Leicester

Shinji Okazaki bravely tries to keep the ball in and collides with Mikel Merino, the latter's boot giving the Japanese striker a nasty cut above his left eye.

'Great feet from Gayle'

Newcastle 2-2 Leicester

John Hartson

Former Arsenal striker at St James' Park for 5 live Sport

Dwight Gayle shows great feet there, he goes through a crowd of bodies and the Leicester players are all looking around and looking at each other.

Leicester can't quite clear the ball, it falls to Gayle who hits it low and hard into the bottom of Schmeichel's goal. It may take a deflection but Gayle's not bothered about that one bit - he's brought Newcastle back level.

Newcastle 2-2 Leicester

The delivery is poor though and the Foxes belt it clear.

Leicester seemed to be in control but it's all Newcastle now.
