Football Focus predictions

'He will be important in the second part of the season'

Ibrahimovic was released by the club in June after his season was ended prematurely by a knee injury, but he is expected to be fit again in December.

"After his contribution last season he deserves our trust and we will be patient waiting for him to return," said manager Jose Mourinho.

Ibrahimovic, who initially joined the Red Devils on free transfer in July 2016, had been recuperating at United's training ground after knee surgery.

Mourinho added: "We are delighted Zlatan is on the road to recovery and we are equally delighted to have his ambition and experience back with us.

"I have no doubt that he will be important in the second part of the season."

Move over #POGBACK...

...It's all about Zlatan's return now!

Two Los Angeles-based Major League Soccer clubs, LA Galaxy and Los Angeles FC, were both interested in signing the striker this summer.

However, Ibrahimovic said: "It was always mine and the club's intention for me to stay."

He added: "I cannot wait to get back out on that Old Trafford pitch, but I also know that I have to take my time to make sure that I am ready.

"I have been working hard and will continue to do so to make sure I am in the best possible condition for my return to the pitch."

Is Bony on his way back?

So Zlatan has returned to Manchester United, but is it Wilfried Bony's turn to go home?

Swansea City are close to securing the return of the Ivorian striker from Manchester City.

City paid their Premier League counterparts £25m for the Ivory Coast forward two and a half years ago.

No fee has been agreed as yet and talks may continue into next week but it is anticipated Bony will return to south Wales for less than half that sum.

Chris Duckworth: Not sure Chalobah has done enough to get a call, but would rather give him experience than play someone with no future.

Mike Hayden: Surely there's a better option than Livermore? What has he done to warrant a place? Would have liked to see Antonio as well.

Daniel: Well we all know who got Rooney's spot... Daniel Sturridge. I'm not even sure why England bother qualify for major tournament.

Southgate on new-boy Maguire

England squad announcement

Gareth Southgate on Harry Maguire: "I thought his performances for Hull were very good.

"He is a defender who is very comfortable with the ball, he has already adjusted very well to a new club at Leicester, plays with composure and can defend the ball into the box, so this is a good chance to have a look at him."

Life without Rooney

England squad announcement

Manager Gareth Southgate confirmed that he had considered recalling Everton striker Wayne Rooney before the 31-year-old, who has scored a record 53 goals for England team, announced his retirement from international football on Wednesday.

"I called him, but he said he had been thinking long and hard about his decision and he announced his international retirement," said Southgate.

"I was thinking of including him in the squad. His form has been excellent. If you are the most capped outfield player and record goalscorer, I am not sure what else you have to do to be an England legend.

"He has served his country brilliantly and I congratulate him on a fantastic international career."

Chelsea still trying to close out Drinkwater deal

Simon Stone

BBC Sport

Chelsea's pursuit of Danny Drinkwater shows no sign of reaching an immediate conclusion.

The Premier League champions want to reunite Drinkwater with former Leicester team-mate N'golo Kante at Stamford Bridge.

But despite a number of inquiries, the two clubs remain apart in their valuations, with Leicester using the £40m fee Chelsea got from Manchester United for Nemanja Matic, who is two years older than Drinkwater, as the yardstick.

Hull City sign Arsenal's Jon Toral

Hull City have signed Arsenal midfielder Jon Toral for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal.

The 22-year-old Spaniard has previously played in the Championship during loan spells with Brentford and Birmingham City.

He could make his debut in Friday's home match against Bolton.

"This is a massive move for me, the biggest so far in my career, and I can't wait to get started," Toral told the club website.
