'Batshuayi progressing well'

FT: Brighton 0-4 Chelsea

Chelsea

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, speaking to Sky Sports:

"Michy Batshuayi's performance was positive. He didn't score but for me it is not important, it is important to play very well for the team. I am pleased for him, he is a young striker and it is normal for him to struggle a bit in this league, but at the same time I think he is progressing very well."

'An incredible response'

FT: Brighton 0-4 Chelsea

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, speaking to BBC Sport:

"It was an important performance. We started very well and scored quickly, with good combinations. We started with a lot of worries, for injuries and suspensions, but the response of the team was incredible. I am very happy for this. Another clean sheet.

"Today it was a really good performance of the team. We moved the ball quickly, we tried to find the players between the lines, to have good combinations. I saw important things. Now we have to continue."

On Andreas Christensen's head injury:

"For Andreas it was a simple concussion. The referee asked him, no? This substitution. But honestly the player did not want to come off. When you have another player like David Luiz, yeah, I decided to make a change. The player is OK. He is available for the next game, for the next training

"[Thibaut] Courtois, we have to check his situation. He had a kick on his ankle. For today he wasn't available, but Willy Caballero played a really good game. I'm happy for him."

'Not a reflection of the game'

FT: Brighton 0-4 Chelsea

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Chris Hughton, speaking to BBC Sport:

"It was a very difficult afternoon for us. The biggest disappointment is that 4-0 was not a true reflection of the game. We did come on to a bit of a game after going 2-0 down and we had decent opportunities, but we are finding it difficult to find the goals we need.

"I thought they were two (penalties that could have been given). We see them briefly afterwards, but when you are Brighton playing at home to Chelsea you need as many things to go for you as possible. The second i didn't see well but the first one I thought it was a penalty. I thought we responded well but then we conceded two poor goals - and that made the scoreline not a reflection of the game."

'We should have had two pens'

FT: Brighton 0-4 Chelsea

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Chris Hughton, speaking to Sky Sports:

"We didn't do ourselves any favours by going 2-0 down so early, but the result is not a full reflection of the game, we had some really good periods, and probably the difference between the two teams are the two appeals - which you need because of Chelsea's quality and the difficulty we have had in scoring.

"For me, we should have had two penalties. The first one I thought at the time, the second I wasn't sure. But when the keeper comes out there is every chance there is going to be a decision to be made, so you have to get yourself into a position to see it. If he says he hasn't seen it, it's not one I don't believe, but there was always going to be a decision to be made.

"On three of their goals we could have done better - on areas that we knew about. It's unlike us. We've been good at not conceding but we found it hard, we were up against a different level. In the second half we gave them a game, but we needed to be better in what we did - and we needed things to go our way."

So we go back to 3-4-3 with two wide forwards and Hazard back out on the left and, surprise surprise, he wins man of the match. He shouldn’t have demanded to play in a more central role.

'I didn't touch him'

FT: Brighton 0-4 Chelsea

Chelsea

Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero on BBC Radio 5 live:

"We started the game very well and got the quick goals. Our striking combinations were fantastic today. Sometimes the goals come and sometimes they don't but we always create a lot of chances. We're really pleased that the goals arrived for us today.

"Brighton played very well and made it difficult for us. They hit the post, forced me into a few saves and it was a fantastic game to watch.

"I spoke with the referee about the penalties because I didn't feel I touched him (Ezequiel Schelotto). It was so fast and it's really difficult for the referee to make the decision. We know that sometimes penalties are awarded but often they aren't."

'Difficult for the refs'

FT: Brighton 0-4 Chelsea

Chelsea

Chelsea's Eden Hazard on Sky Sports:

"We started the game very well. The combination between Michy, Willian and me, was brilliant. We need to do more like this. But then at the end of the half we had a little bit problem. Willy made some saves today. When you score early then you think the game is really over, but it is not."

Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero on Brighton's penalty appeals:

"I don't know, this is for the referee. I spoke with him. It is so difficult for them. You know the other day we lived this situation in the cup game. Now it is for them but these are things of the game. Things to talk about in the newspaper and so on."

Andy Head: Did the officials not spot Zappacosta's foul throw that led to Hazard's goal? I thought we had rules for a reason.

Simon Sharp: What's the point in bringing modern technology into football when clear foul throws, like the one directly preceding Hazard's second goal, aren't given?

'Visitors were terrific'

Brighton 0-4 Chelsea

David Pleat

Former Tottenham manager on BBC Radio 5 live

Chelsea were terrific going forward, whenever they attacked they caused all sorts of problems with a return to last season's type of formation.

They've had big support here today and Antonio Conte still seems to have full support from the fans.

Eden Hazard - Chelsea's star performer - goes over to a fan who has been holding a sign asking for his shirt, and hands the strip over.

Antonio Conte is out there too, he's pumping his arms and clapping towards the away supporters - he's there a long time after the Blues players head down the tunnel.

'A cruel game'

Brighton 0-4 Chelsea

David Pleat

Former Tottenham manager on BBC Radio 5 live

Football can be a cruel game.

Moses takes it to left hand side of the goalkeeper and pokes it into the net, Mathew Ryan in the Brighton goal has had no chance with any of the four goals.

Brighton's destiny is still in their own hands, I just feel that although they've had a hiding today in terms of the scoreline they haven't played that badly. Perhaps they could have been a bit tighter to Hazard in the first half but he's such a fantastic player and I don't know what Chelsea would do without his creativity.

Adam Boyce: Hazard, please stop. Real Madrid are looking...

Viresh Mustry: Musonda always looks comfortable and able to be Hazard's future replacement.

Shamsheer Chelsea: When we start scoring, we score plenty of them.

Brighton 0-4 Chelsea

Willy Caballero flaps at another high ball - he really doesn't like those does he? - after Jose Izquierdo's shot is deflected into the air. It won't matter anyway of course.

We are moments away from the final whistle...

Brighton 0-4 Chelsea

Three minutes added on...

GOAL - Brighton 0-4 Chelsea

Victor Moses

Ah.

Well. Victor Moses rounds us off off then. It's another lovely goal - substitute Charly Musonda dinks a delicious chip into his path, over the white flag of this surrendering defence, and that is a lovely knock down. Moses takes it all into his stride and plants the ball past Mat Ryan.

Brighton 0-3 Chelsea

I've said it before but it really could have been quite different for Brighton. What if they were awarded a penalty from one of their appeals (their first, the challenge by Willy Caballero on Ezequiel Schelotto was the most credible), or if that header from Tomer Hemed had found the right side of the post?

Chelsea had a golden whirlwind start - but there were times when they looked vulnerable.

Brighton 0-3 Chelsea

It doesn't look like there will even be a consolation for Brighton - the league's second worst performers in front of goal. They've found the net just 17 times now, with their 24th game of the campaign almost up.

Just under five minutes to play.

SUBSTITUTION

Brighton 0-3 Chelsea

Brighton now with what is their final sub - Solly March is replaced by forward Jose Izquierdo.

SUBSTITUTION

Brighton 0-3 Chelsea

Another change for Chelsea - midfielder Charly Musonda is on for Willian.

Not a bad little run of form this, for the Brazilian. He's scored and assisted in three of his last five league starts now (3 goals, 5 assists).

'Hazard the kingpin'

Brighton 0-3 Chelsea

David Pleat

Former Tottenham manager on BBC Radio 5 live

It's a wonderful goal. Eden Hazard has such speed as well as control and right from the start he has been the kingpin. He even puts two Brighton players on their backsides as he scores the goal - he's been such a huge contributor for Chelsea in this game.

David Thackeray: As a neutral, Brighton really deserve something from this game although I fear it will only be sympathy.

Wayne Ellis: I guess no-one wanted to make a challenge there then? Shocking defending...

Bayo Omisore: Hazard is a beast.

Brighton 0-3 Chelsea

David Luiz decides to shoot from a free-kick about 40 yards out and nobody seems in any kind of mood to stop him. His side are 3-0 up and coasting.

But it could have been so different - Brighton really should have had at least one back from the chances they've had. Not their day it seems.

GOAL - Brighton 0-3 Chelsea

Eden Hazard

Finally Chelsea make the home side pay on the break.

Brighton are totally exposed as Willian plays a long through ball into Eden Hazard's path. This is easy work for him. With the goal to race at, defenders back-pedaling, the Belgian sells Mat Ryan with the eyes and plants home from inside the box. Smart finishing. Dusted.

Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

Those signs of a strong Brighton comeback? They're not really on show any more...

SUBSTITUTION

Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

Michy Batshuayi is kicking off here. He didn't like that Lewis Dunk challenge. He threw an arm at him slightly after Dunk caught him with his studs. I think the ref had already blown for a foul by Dale Stephens - Batshuayi was on the ground after that.

Chelsea make a change - Marcos Alonso is replaced by fellow full-back Davide Zappacosta.

'Schelotto unluckiest man on pitch'

Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

David Pleat

Former Tottenham manager on BBC Radio 5 live

You have to worry for Ezequiel Schelotto, he has done some serious running today. He has been the unluckiest man on the pitch in terms of the runs he's been making, a real afternoon of disappointment for him, but he's put in a massive effort.

Ezequiel Schelotto

Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

Better from David Luiz - his headed clearance is perfect for N'Golo Kante to hoover up. But the Frenchman is quickly mobbed in midfield as Brighton look to get a hold on on this.

They look for the move that has worked best for them - out wide to Ezequiel Schelotto and into the box - but maybe Chelsea are getting wise to it.

Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

That is a superb sliding block from Lewis Dunk to deny Michy Batshuayi a clear run at goal.

Just moments before, Beram Kayal and Glenn Murary - the two subs - almost combined in the box really well, but Murray's touch just ran a touch too long.

It feels like Brighton are leaving gaps now. They have to go for it. Twenty to play...

SUBSTITUTION

Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

Two changes for Brighton. Pascal Gross comes off - Beram Kayal is on in midfield.

And lone striker Tomer Hemed is replaced by top scorer Glen Murray.

CLOSE!

Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

Ezequiel Schelotto again in the thick of it!

Antoio Rudiger heads clear a deep cross - out to Marcos Alonso on the edge of the box. The Spaniard delays slightly as he stoops to nod it down, allowing Schelotto to race in and steal a sight on goal.

Out comes Willy Caballero - he spreads himself - and Schelotto can only prod the ball into him on the stretch.

A big chance...

Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

David Pleat

Former Tottenham manager on BBC Radio 5 live

Having seen them a few times, Brighton certainly going forward have been better today than I've seen previously. They're getting balls into the box early and they're getting chances.

Chris Hughton now has to make some substitutions as his side have worked very hard to contain Chelsea. He's going to need a bit more energy.

The wait goes on for the Seagulls' 200th top flight goal...

Fred in New York: Take it from someone who regularly attends MLS matches - the refereeing in England is outstanding.

Fantasy Sports Wizard: Fair play to the referee. They rightly get a lot of stick but this time got it right... great to see player safety coming first and foremost as Andreas Christensen is made to be subbed off due to a head injury.

Neil Cormack: Chelsea playing a back four with Jon Moss the rock at the centre of the defence.

Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

Cleared at the near post and Chelsea break up the pitch - rapid.

Eden Hazard has another chance to torment the home defence but this time he runs the ball out play. Ironic cheers from the home side as he appears to lose his footing in doing so.

Michy Batshuayi is shunted off the ball. David Luiz misplaces a clearance. Solly March has space to shoot on the edge of the box but his effort is deflected wide.

Brighton corner...

Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

Just half an hour to play now. A Brighton goal could really turn this into a big finish - or have Chelsea already survived the worst?

HITS THE WOODWORK

Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

Nope - it's Willian with it..

A brilliant curling effort up and down over the wall that is superbly matched by Mat Ryan - the Brighton keeper launches to his left and gloves the ball onto the post and out.

Ah - he did not look right. Andreas Christensen is having to come off now. He still looks to be in pain after that clash of heads. He's not looking comfortable at all. Possible concussion - it was a really bad clash.

David Luiz is on to replace him at centre-back. Will he take this free-kick instead?..
