Great effort from the chaps and chapesses at Haas.

The clock ticks over to 17:00 GMT and we're out of time.

No fireworks from Kimi - I feel like I've let every single one of you down. And for that, I am sorry.

I'll just have a little look down the times and get them to you asap, boss.

VW Group

The VW Group will not enter Formula 1 while question marks remain over the sport, says the group's motorsport boss.

Romain Grosjean's time that has put him in P2 was set on the softs. The only other times set on softs today have come from Kevin Magnussen and Feipe Nasr - and the Frenchman is about half a second quicker than the pair of them

A nice sneak peak at the data the teams are seeing this week.

And there's a change in the top three.

Romain Grosjean in the Haas has jumped up to P2 with a 1:25.874.

Yes, it's just testing and yes, Haas have spent some money. But the new team have looked like a promising outfit this week.

The Renault of Kevin Magnussen and the Toro Rosso of Carlos Sainz are not done just yet. After a brief box, the pair are back on it.

Can Red Bull cause bother?

“Red Bull have been under-promising this winter so far - team boss Christian Horner said last week that they would be happy if they got into the top 10 qualifying shoot-out in Melbourne. But the new RB12 has gone well in testing so far and Daniel Ricciardo was second fastest on Tuesday before handing over to his team-mate Daniil Kvyat for the remainder of the test.

"‘For two days we are confident for what we’ve got,’ Ricciardo said. ‘Reliability was pretty good. Both days we had little bits and pieces but nothing really that major, which was nice. We got pretty much 200 laps across the two days. I am happy. The car feels pretty good.’

"If Renault can deliver their expected performance increases over the season, the signs are that a typically excellent Red Bull chassis could cause a bit of bother in the second half of the season - especially on the twistier tracks.”

Button gone for a leak

That's a wrap for today's running, folks. We have a hydraulic leak that the team are fixing so we'll be back tomorrow as normal. #F1Testing

Dusk til dawn

We're into the final half hour.

Hulkenberg, Raikkonen and Hamilton are all out on track.

None of them seem like they'll be logging anything spectacular any time soon though.

We're entering the dusk period though, which is the time of day to get that perfect photo for you Instagram account, just like this one below from yesterday.

Qualifying reaction

#bbcf1

J J Jackson: Who can honestly remember a qualifying session beyond the weekend? It's the races you recall. They're focusing on the wrong thing.

Gaura Shivastava: With new quali rules, how would this play out through the twisty and cramped circuit of Monaco?

Tim Oakley: New qualifying? Brilliant. All we need now is 'phone votes and spinning chairs!

Vettel
PA

Very little happening with the times.

Nobody has given the ultra-softs a run today, which is what Sebastian Vettel used for his time-of-the-week yesterday.

On your Jack

The motif of Jack Jones seems fitting next to Kevin Magnussen standing all by himself on the home straight.

Feeling the Force

Andrew Benson

Force India's Sergio Perez

"At Force India, the contrast with this time last year could not be starker. In 2015, they missed one test altogether, did the second with their old car, and did not have their new car ready until the second day of the final one.

"This year, they have hit the ground running and the 2016 car looks a solid effort from a team that was increasingly impressive in the second half of last season.

"‘Very good, very positive,’ Sergio Perez said yesterday. ‘I am very happy with my first day in the car. There is big potential that we have to exploit out of this car. If you compare where we were last year, it's a couple of seconds difference already. We are in a much better position than we were last year, so I'm very optimistic.’”

Who nose?

I'll do the jokes around here, thank you very much.

Kimi Raikkonen has notched 47 laps so far today, but has been about three seconds off team-mate Sebastian Vettel's quickest time yesterday.

Red flag

This will eat into a bit of time.

The Renault of Kevin Magnussen has pulled up on the home straight.

It might be channeling the spirit of its former driver Pastor Maldnado.

If you want to look proper weird in the office this morning, get your phone out, open your Facebook app and head over to the BBC Motorbikes page.

You can take a ride on the NW 200 and, through the magic of a 360 degree camera, you can tilt and rotate your phone to look in any direction while you're riding.

Check it out here - just make sure you have the latest Facebook app update. Or you can use it on your desktop by dragging your mouse around.

It's almost as awesome as Kimi.

"With just over an hour to go, Felipe Nasr, Felipe Massa and Carlos Sainz had broken the 100-lap barrier. Kevin Magnussen was getting close, however, having done 94 tours. Eight of the 11 drivers did over 100 laps yesterday."

Hulkenberg

Nico Hulkenberg still rattling away at the top of the leaderboard as we approach the final hour.

I'm not sure if we'll experience the type of edge-of-your-seat drama we had yesterday with Nico Rosberg surpassing his team-mate's lap tally.

But we can live in hope.

'There is no magic solution'

Andrew Benson

Chief F1 writer

McLaren's Fernando Alonso

“Fernando Alonso’s news conference after his first test day on Tuesday was rammed. And the Spaniard did not disappoint, proving both newsworthy and illuminating as usual. Apart from dismissing still-rumbling rumours about a sabbatical, he also gave some real insight into McLaren’s position.

“Even if Honda has solved its issues with energy deployment, the engine is clearly still the big problem. And while Alonso did not criticise it - other than saying there was a lot of work to do in all areas - he did inadvertently or otherwise make it clear, when he pointed out just how confident McLaren are in the quality of their chassis.

“‘The target to have the best chassis is reachable by the European races,’ Alonso said, ‘and the motivation is very high so who knows (what we can achieve)? There is no magic solution or crystal ball but I would like to be competitive and fighting for something important.’

“Alonso was only eighth fastest - and the speed traps told you where the loss was. He was slowest of all at the end of the long pit straight, and second slowest at the finish line. But third fastest - behind the Ferrari and Red Bull, which used both the ultra-soft and super-soft tyres while Alonso was on the softs - in the twisty final sector.”

61 laps under @RHaryantoracing's belt. P12 and a fastest lap so far of 1:29.808.

Decent start to his F1 career for Rio Haryanto, despite a wobble in the early session.

(I'm a bit in love with that Manor livery).

Qualifying reaction

#bbcf1

Deeda: Interesting quali rules.. would intervals change in wet conditions? Maybe not since you can't get round all tracks in 90 secs anyway.

Zack: Leave qualifying as it is! We're used to it, we enjoy it, its interesting. NO CHANGE NEEDED!

Anthony Bell: The new plans for qualifying actually sound really exciting.

Phil Stevens: I like the new qually idea but do drivers get to drop bananas and fire shells at other drivers?

"That 1:23.110 from Hulkenberg on the super-soft is interesting - it is 0.5secs quicker than Sebastian Vettel went on that tyre on Tuesday and only 0.3secs slower than the Ferrari managed on the ultra-soft. That suggests Vettel was running significantly more fuel than the Force India - which is encouraging in terms of Ferrari's margin to the Mercedes, in the context of what we discussed earlier this morning."

Is Kimi about to slip on two pairs of the pink and black attack ultra-soft tyres and go for a killer lap?

He has work to do to catch Nico Hulkenberg though, who is wearing the super-softs and has improved his quickest lap to 1:23.110

"I just saw a Ferrari crew member wheeling four freshly mounted Pirelli ultra-soft tyres from the Pirelli area to the Ferrari garage. Looks like Kimi Raikkonen will do a flyer lap sometime this afternoon."
