Runners at the start of the Great Scottish Run
BBC Sport

Thanks for joining us today, I hope you have enjoyed following the events as much as we have enjoyed bringing you them.

There have been some impressive performances in the elite races with records broken in both Cardiff and Glasgow.

But, perhaps more importantly, thousands of people of all ages took to the streets of two of the UK’s major cities to run for fun or to raise money for charity.

Thanks to those of you who have sent us your messages of support.

You can fins even more images from both races here.

See you next time, or, even better, get out and give it a go yourself.

Or, you could do what Ben Smith has done...

'I've come too far to go back there'

Robert Fleming
BBC

Running motivation: At his heaviest, Robert Fleming weighed just over 20 stone.

He became the full-time carer for his mum, who has learning disabilities, when he was 18 and found himself battling depression.

However, something clicked after the death of his dog - a collie called Max - and Robert, who himself has learning difficulties, decided things needed to change.

He rehomed seven-year-old black labrador Tiki, met other dog walkers and started to love his life.

Then, after being inspired by runners at the London marathon, he started running. He now trains with Forfar Road Runners, ran his first marathon earlier this year and has, over the past three years, lost 9st.

He says: "I keep all my old photos and when I look at them I think - where's that person?

"It's like I have a new life, and if I have had a bad day I look at them and think I've come too far to go back there."

Cardiff stories - Emma Jackson

'If I save just one life it all will have been worth it'

EMMA Jackson
BBC

English teacher Emma saw her world ripped apart when her father Fred died. He was away on business in Cornwall when he was taken ill in his hotel room and later died of carbon monoxide poisoning aged 52.

Now Emma is looking to raise awareness about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning. In particular she is urging caution when people stay away from home and is encouraging people to buy simple and cheap mobile carbon monoxide detectors when they are travelling.

Emma, who will celebrate her 27th birthday on the day of the half marathon, has never run the distance before, but will be spurred around the 13 miles by the thought of her deeply-missed father.

Emma says: "My father was a very positive person and I would like to think he would be proud of what I'm doing. If by doing this I get to save just one life then it will all have been worth it."

'I have a different perspective on life and death'

Kirsten Koh
BBC

Running motivation: Kirsten Koh, 36, thought she'd never walk again after a being hit by a lorry while on her bike.

She was dragged underneath its chassis and broke her pelvis, both femurs, and several other bones. She spent three months in hospital and a further seven months in a wheelchair.

As her body gradually got stronger she kept challenging herself to swim longer and cycle further. Her first 'race' after her accident was the Singapore Sundown Marathon in 2012, which took her 10½ hours to walk.

She now works to help injured athletes and people who have faced life-threatening illnesses.

She says: "I have come back strong and I am grateful for that.

"Now I want to give something back."

'I thought I was looking at the wrong clock'

Great Scottish Run

Callum Hawkins during the Great Scottish Run
Our woman on the course Louise Andrew caught this image of Callum 'flying past'

Scotland's Callum Hawkins beat long distance legend Haile Gebrselassie's course record en route to winning his home half marathon and admitted he was shocked by his time.

"I can't put it into words. I wasn't expecting to run anywhere near as quickly. I am really pleased. I went out to win and that's what I did.

"I came up the straight and saw 60 minutes and I thought I was looking at the wrong clock.

"Just to have my name in the same sentence as the greats is incredible. I still can't believe what I have done.

"It is just another stepping stone onto the Gold Coast (Commonwealth Games 2018) and the Tokyo Olympics from there."

Cardiff Half Marathon

There are plenty of people still going in Cardiff including this truly inspirational woman.

Emma Louise Sorano has had cerebral palsy since birth and is tackling today's race to raise money for Martha’s Dancing Heart.

She is aiming to complete part of today's route in Cardiff and you can read more on her story here.

'A piece of history being written'

More on Callum Hawkins' impressive victory against a world-class field in Glasgow.

He beat three-time Commonwealth Games champion Moses Kipsiro in the race, setting a new Scottish record, and becomes the first Scottish winner of the Great Scottish Run since Peter Fleming in 1983.

Hawkins' time of one hour 22 seconds is the second fastest British half marathon of all time, behind four-time Olympic gold medallist Mo Farah.

Robin: "We are both inside the record. We finished in 69 and 70 minutes so we beat the record of 75 minutes.

"It is the hardest thing ever. It was so warm, we started at a decent pace but we turned to each other saying it was way too hot!"
