'An absolutely amazing day'

One For Arthur is owned by the Two Golf Widows, aka Deborah Thomson and Belinda McClung, and they were left in disbelief after watching their horse triumph by four and a half lengths.

Thomson said: "I just can't believe it. It's been an absolutely amazing day. Arthur just cruised that race, Derek rode so well and I'm just a bit lost for words really. "I just can't believe we've won the Grand National - it's fantastic."

"He's given us a fantastic journey." McClung added: "I thought this morning, it's baking hot so there's no pressure now, he's not going to win on that ground but I have to say he's just shown his class today. "He's amazing and he got a great ride."

Assistant trainer Peter Scudamore:  "We've had to work hard to get where we are.

"It's a personal pride to show you can compete with the big boys."

Ruby clings on for ninth

Five from home, Pleasant Company very nearly was floored but Ruby Walsh rode out the stumble like a champion rodeo rider to keep his mount in the race. He only managed ninth though in the end.

Props and slips

A replay of the race shows just how well 17-year-old jockey Jack Kennedy did to guide Roi Des Francs back into contention after he was lead astray by a loose horse.

Danny Cook has revealed that Definitly Red was going well before an awkward landing sent his saddle slipping round and the pair out of the race.

Balding seal of approval

Each-way final slot

A few bookmakers pay out each-way all the way down to sixth.

It is Vieux Lion Rouge that fills that final paying slot.

Spoils of victory

The announcer on the winners enclosure microphone has set his bombast level only a notch below X-Factor.

He rolls his Rs hard and long as he heralds the connections of One For Arthur and invites them up to the top step to receive the brand spanking new trophy that comes with brand spanking new sponsors.

Arthur was the 35th most popular boy's name in the United Kingdom last year, up 20 places.

A lot of giddy new parents out there. Either flush from financial winnings or lack of sleep.

More from Derek Fox: "I was injured on 9 March, I got a heavy fall on the novice chase and that was four weeks ago on Thursday.

"This is the best feeling I have ever had or probably ever will have and I want to take most of it in. I don't often get a chance to ride a horse as good as that."

BBC Radio 5 live

Winning jockey Derek Fox:  "It's the best feeling I've ever had. He's just such a brave horse. A sign of a true race horse to win the Grand National. It's unbelievable."

Into the winners' enclosure...

The field dismount and One For Arthur is led off for a bucket of water and a cool-down while jockey Derek Fox heads into the winners' enclosure on his own two feet, saddle in hand.

A fanfare and cheers as he clambers aboard the scales and pumps his fist to his supporters.

Tight to the end

The betting market suggested that it would be a fiendishly tight Grand National and it was nip and tuck all the way.

Blaklion went early and hard but didn't have the gas.

One For Arthur proved to have the stamina as he went toe to toe with Cause Of Causes up the finishing straight.

'He had the bottle'

John Hunt

BBC Radio 5 live horse racing commentator

He had the bottle, he took his time, he produced it when it mattered. It shows you don't need experience to win a Grand National.

Pleasant Company makes a bad mistake on the sixth from home. Roi Des Francs and Pleasant Company lead the chase of Rogue Angel.

Shantou Flyer is pulled up three from home.

Rogue Angel still looking spritely up the front.

Latest fallers

Fence 22 of 30 - Becher's Brook.

Ucello Conti goes - he unseats his rider.

Blaklion shows for the first time at the front. Rogue Angel and Roi Des Francs are still leadiing. Gas Line Boy peeks out as well.

The pace is cranking up. Roi Des Francs is led astray by a loose horse, He is still in it, but that will have cost him valuable energy.
