I think you can take a lot of positives from it. The forwards play has been excellent, it's just been the last pass that hasn't gone to hand. It's not been too bad a game, that's just the way it goes.

Full-time

London Irish 16-28 Leicester

And that's the final action of the game.

Leicester take the win in a game of few tries, but plenty of opportunities.

London Irish showed some fight, but couldn't quite find their finishing touch.

They're penalised for not releasing and Tommy Bell caps off his afternoon by adding another three points thanks to the ball just creeping in off the inside of the post.

London Irish 16-25 Leicester

Mistake after mistake after mistake.

Leicester counter, but Mike Fitzgerald's pass doesn't get caught and Leicester miss the chance to finish in style.

Penalty (Bell)

Tommy Bell makes no mistake. Around 45 metres out, from the right, he finds the middle of the posts.

London Irish 16-22 Leicester

Leicester again find some phases and Irish are penalised for leaving a hand in.

This could be the kick to finish it...

London Irish 16-22 Leicester

Leo Halavatau gets in a big hit on Mike Williams that you could hear all the way up here in the top tier of the stand!

Knocked him back some four metres.

Ouch!

This game has certainly opened, it's become very exciting for the crowd here. But there's seven minutes left in the game - there's no need to rush the pass every time.

I think it was still under control - it looked like he only lost it after he'd touched down. The Leicester management don't look very happy.

Disallowed try

London Irish 16-22 Leicester

Replacement Leicester number eight Opeti Fonua thought he'd got the try for Leicester, but it's not given and there's a knock on spotted instead.

London Irish 16-19 Leicester

Another missed chance by Irish. Tom Fowlie the culprit this time who can't hold the pass.

Leicester clear, but it's scrum time again some five metres out.

London Irish 16-19 Leicester

Great break once again from Eoin Griffin for London Irish and he almosts crosses the line to put the hosts ahead.

Laurence Pearce does just enough to hold him up centimetres short.

52: SO CLOSE! @EoinGriff90 on a rampaging run from the 22 is just held up. 5m scrum. 16-19

Missed penalty (Bell)

Tommy Bell hits this one just wide left of the posts, but it was some five metres inside his own half.

Chris Noakes kicks successfully for three points once again as Irish reduce the deficit.

London Irish 13-19 Leicester

The tall figure of Tom Guest to my left has switched seats with Tim Dellor on Radio Berkshire at half-time as the front row seats up here can be a bit of a squeeze for a man with long legs.

His team-mates also looking a bit more comfortable in possession so far this half as they win a penalty 40 metres out.

London Irish 13-19 Leicester

Irish kick away possession from hand just as they look set to work through the phases from the restart but Leicester don't find any better field position.

Kick-off

London Irish 13-19 Leicester

The strains of Club Foot by Kasabian (aren't they from Leicester?) ring out on the Madejski Stadium PA and we're off and running again.

HT: London Irish 13-19 Leicester

Right, a cup of tea to warm both myself and my hands to my left and a few sandwiches scoffed in between and we're almost ready for the restart.

Steve Johnson

Ex-Leicester flanker on BBC Radio Leicester

I think Irish are probably worth a few more points. They've had more of the ball in the Leicester half but it's just been poor handling that's let them down.

Half-time

London Irish 13-19 Leicester

And that's it for the opening 40 minutes.

Plenty of endeavour from both sides, but some sloppy mistakes as well.

Fair to say we haven't been short on action.

More to follow when we resume shortly. Don't go away.
