Saracens 24-17 Wasps

John T. McCarthy on Twitter: "Turgid stuff for the most part and #Saracens while deserved winners are a niggly, bordering on dirty, team."

Saracens 24-17 Wasps

Brendan Venter - Saracens technical director at large - was impressed by his side's performance.

And less so by Monsieur Poite.

Great win boys. Dominant performance.

Poite has no idea. Consistency is all coaches and players ask for.

This poor ref is out of his depth Needs the TMO for every correct decision. .

Wasps captain James Haskell speaking to Sky Sports: "When you run yourself into the ground like we did, then there is not much more that you can ask.

"It comes down to the fine margins. We have to pick ourselves up and go again because there is still the Premiership to play for and we want to finish well with this team that won't be together again next season."

Saracens' season?

Saracens were thumped 23-6 in the 2014 final there will be no Toulon this time. Sarries beat Leicester 26-6 at home in the Premiership this season but it was 21-13 to Leicester at Welford Road. Racing 92 are currently fourth in the Top 14 table.

Saracens' man of the match Maro Itoje speaking to Sky Sports:  "The resilience in the team and the quality of the person in the team helps us control games and come through difficult points in the match.

"Our half-backs run the game - superbly backed by a coaching team. We don't mind too much who we play in the final, we just want to give a good account of ourselves."

Saracens 24-17 Wasps

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Former Scotland scrum-half Rory Lawson on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "It was a fascinating contest - a clash of two different styles and the differences was the Saracens' setpiece and defence. There were some fantastic individual performances from Wasps but they could not get their momentum going as a whole because Saracens just bring some much pressure to bear when they don't have the ball.

"It was Test match intensity at times."

Full-time

Saracens 24-17 Wasps

Good game, that. Wasps with a great start, followed by 60 minutes of Saracens dominance, followed by a harem-scarem finish. Wasps will play either Leicester or Racing 92 in Lyon on 14 May. Maro Itoje was man of the match, the Saracens second-row was monumental again today. Apparently he's only lost one game of rugby this season, some player...

Full-time

Saracens 24-17 Wasps

McIntyre back into the fray and he's straight into a scrum... the clock ticks into the red, the ball goes in, the ball goes out, the whistle goes. Saracens back in the Champions Cup final, can they finally land it this season?

Saracens 24-17 Wasps

Wasps with one last blast of the trumpet, going down swinging blows... Simpson knocks on in the tackle, Saracens scrum, that looks like that...

Saracens 24-17 Wasps

Lots of late changes as both coaches seek to freshen things up... Daly just misses touch with a monster clearance, Farrell coughs the ball up, Ashton boots the ball out, concedes the penalty... bit silly, that, given up acres of territory...

Saracens 24-17 Wasps

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Former Scotland scrum-half Rory Lawson on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Ashley Johnson - hitting that angle, at that pace, at 18 stone - you are not going to stop him. What a finale in store."

Try (Johnson)

Saracens 24-17 Wasps

Daly makes ground but is pulled down just short of the try-line... TRY! Johnson thunders over from close-range and Gopperth kicks the extras to keep Wasps alive...

Saracens 24-10 Wasps

Saracens pinged for crossing at the restart, a bit of argy-bargy as Goode prevents the quick one, Wasps finally tap and go...

Saracens 22-10 Wasps

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Former Scotland scrum-half Rory Lawson on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "The big powerful Saracens machine just cranked up a couple of notches there, Wasps are down man in the forward with Simon McIntyre in the sin bin and they could not stop that Saracens' drive once it had picked up momentum."

Penalty try

Saracens 22-10 Wasps

Wide from Daly to Wade, but the flying Wasps winger is snaffled by Ashton. Saracens win the penalty as Young is wrapped up by Fraser and here comes the line-out drive... Fraser controlling the ball at the rear, the hosts makes 15-20 yards... on towards the try-line, penalty try! Illegal collapsing, Saracens appear to be on their way to Lyon.

Saracens 17-10 Wasps

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Former Scotland scrum-half Rory Lawson on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Wasps have an uphill struggle now and they are emptying the bench now with number eight Ashley Johnson and flanker Sam Jones coming on to try and inject some pace into the loose.

"This is Dai Young showing his final hand."

Sin-bin (McIntyre)

Saracens 17-10 Wasps

Not sure what to make of that. McIntyre is sent to the sin-bin for that kick on Itoje, it could have been a red, but I'm not actually sure it was as bad as it looked. Get me? Anyway, Farrell slippers over the three-pointer and Wasps look finished...

Saracens 14-10 Wasps

Hmmm, bit of skulduggery at the breakdown, McIntrye booting Itoje in the face in retaliation for being held on to. Yellow card coming up, I think...

Saracens 14-10 Wasps

Itoje looks very much like an England legend in the making, he's caused havoc again today. When doesn't he? Saracens were dangling for a moment but they have found a foothold again. Phases inside Wasps' 22 but they butcher the chance... Gopperth takes a chance, feeds Wade, but they eventually come back for the knock-on...

Saracens 14-10 Wasps

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Former Scotland scrum-half Rory Lawson on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "It was a little reckless from Simon McIntyre - he looked like he had gone for a charge-down though. He had not altered his line of running going into that piece of contact."

Saracens 14-10 Wasps

Tough times for Saracens, Goode with a badly misjudged clearance before McIntyre clatters him. That looked late but the Saracens full-back is OK. Play on... Itoje forces the knock-on at the line-out, Saracens scrum...

Missed penalty

Farrell 14-10 Wasps

Deary me, Farrell has a serious glitch in his swing, he's hooked another one...

Saracens 14-10 Wasps

Farrell back on, it's 15 v 15 again, and his first act will be kicking a penalty, Festuccia with the infringement...

Saracens 14-10 Wasps

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Former Scotland scrum-half Rory Lawson on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Christian Wade is not going to knock someone over or bump them off in the tackle. he excels when he is isolated against his opposite number and has the space to stand them up and leave them for dead as he did to Chris Wyles there."

Christian Wade

Saracens 14-10 Wasps

Wasps makes changes, Haskell off for Thomas Young, son of head coach Dai. Mullan off for McIntyre in the front row, and it's all Wasps at the moment, some turnaround...

Saracens 14-10 Wasps

Wyles with the knock-on and it's adjudged to be deliberate. Gopperth kicks to the corner, Wasps with their best period of the game as Farrell prepares to rejoin the fray. Wade is a scary young man with ball in hand, must be like trying to snare a blob of mercury with some chopsticks...

Saracens 14-10 Wasps

That was very smart work by Saracens from the line-out, Brits throwing short to Itoje and getting the ball back again before offloading to the same team-mate one-handed. Itoje imperious at the line-out again and here comes the drive into the Wasps half... but Haskell nicks it... Charles Piutau kicks through, Goode collects and kicks back... Simpson takes a risk, passing long inside his own 22 and it comes off, Wade skimming through four or five tackles and taking Wasps into the Saracens 22...

Saracens 14-10 Wasps

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Former Scotland scrum-half Rory Lawson on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Saracens have made way more errors than they would typically make in the game. I know there is pressure in a game like this, but that knock-on was a very basic mistake from a player of Billy Vunipola's class."

That earlier yellow card for Owen Farrell splitting opinion in the press box.

Some, myself included, felt in real time Farrell had been unable to control his momentum as Robson tried to duck and weave his way clear of contact.

Others around me calling for a red card instead for the reckless nature that some angles on the action replay were appearing to show.

Saracens 14-10 Wasps

Brits flies down the left wing, passes inside to Itoje one-handed, Goode drops into the pocket but the pack drives on... Billy Vunipola knocks on, Wasps have a reprieve...

Saracens 14-10 Wasps

Brits with a shuddering hit on Gopperth and it's more of the same since the restart, Wasps with ball and Saracens bashing everything that moves.

Penalty (Gopperth)

Saracens 14-10 Wasps

Robson finally off, clutching an oxygen mask to his face. That wasn't a particularly bad tackle by Farrell, Robson slipped into it, but Gopperth has nailed the three-pointer from right in front.

Saracens 14-7 Wasps

Andrew Priestley on Twitter: That is a horrendous tackle from Owen Farrell. In my eyes he is fortunate to only get a yellow. That was dangerous and reckless

Saracens 14-7 Wasps

Joe Simpson will enter the fray as soon as Robson is removed from the pitch. The medical men and women taking plenty of time, as they should do with a head injury. I should reiterate, however, that Robson is sitting up.

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Former Scotland scrum-half Rory Lawson on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "It looked really nasty from Owen Farrell. He only had a half-second to go at Dan Robson, but he has flung himself into the tackle quite recklessly. There was a swinging arm in there and he led head-first."

Sin-bin

Saracens 14-7 Wasps

I don't think we'll be seeing Robson again today, he was out before he hit the canvas. However, he is sitting up now. Farrell, meanwhile, is caked in blood from what looks like a ear injury. But that might be the definition of insult to injury, as Farrell is shown a yellow card for that tackle on Robson, on his way to the blood bin.

Saracens 14-7 Wasps

Adam Williams

BBC Sport at Madejski Stadium

No exaggeration (are you sure? ed), but you could feel the earth shudder around this stadium as James Haskell put in a hit of real force in on his England team-mate Owen Farrell.

Moments after Farrell had kicked his second long-distance penalty, he was down on the canvas from the battering ram that is Haskell.

Some real spice in this game now, what have Wasps got in their locker to counter Saracens' dominance at the breakdown?

Saracens 14-7 Wasps

Haskell takes at the tail but the Saracens defence immediately kicks into action, every time Wasps put a few phases together it's like a gang of blood-thirsty attack dogs are released. Oh dear, looks like Robson is out cold...

Saracens 14-7 Wasps

Brits gathers the restart and goes on a barrel, but Hughes nicks it at the breakdown and Wasps come clear... Wasps penalty for a Farrell high tackle, I believe, and Gopperth kicks for the corner...
