Recap: Gloucester 6-15 Bath

Anthony Watson try
Getty Images

Bath came from behind in the West-country derby to condemn Gloucester to their third home defeat of the season.

In an underwhelming first period, in part to do with the wet conditions, James Hook scored the only points of the half with a long-range effort.

George Ford drew Bath level after the break with a drop-goal, before Laidlaw put Gloucester back ahead from the tee.

But Anthony Watson finished well as Laidlaw missed two late penalties and Matt Banahan's try sealed victory.

Recap: Sale 34-30 Leicester

Sale secured a second Premiership win of the season in a thrilling game of seven tries against Leicester.

Peter Betham's two tries saw Leicester lead 14-7 after Mike Phillips's score.

Former Tiger Paolo Odogwu and Johnny Leota powered Sale into a 24-20 half-time lead with Halani Aulika adding a fourth try after the break.

Adam Thompstone brought Leicester within a point after Aulika was sin-binned but Will Addison's late penalty sealed the victory.

Saturday's scores

So, full-time in both our contests. A quick reminder of how they went:

FT: Gloucester 6-15 Bath

We know derby games aren't pretty, but we knew if we stuck to our process and game plan, at certain points it would come through for us today. We've stuck together as a tight group this season so far and today just shows the talent of the boys.

Gloucester 6-15 Bath

Well, in a match a little short on stardust, Bath prevail to secure their fifth victory in a row against Gloucester.

In a turgid first-half which saw just three points scored, Bath came from behind courtesy of tries from Anthony Watson and Matt Banahan to take victory.

Gloucester 6-15 Bath

We're well into the final minute here and Bath are in possession.

But the penalty is Gloucester's and they'll have one last attempt at the losing bonus-point.

Try (Banahan, con Ford)

Gloucester 6-15 Bath

A very straight-forward try for Bath which could seal victory.

The ball ends up having to go down the short side from the scrum, and Kahn Fotuali'i hands a lovely pass out to Matt Banahan on the wing.

George Ford's conversion is right on the money and Gloucester have a mountain to climb now.

Less than five minutes to go...

Gloucester 6-8 Bath

Baht have a golden opportunity here to secure the victory.

They've got a scrum five-metres out...

Gloucester 6-8 Bath

Jenna Hawkey

BBC Radio 5 live at Kingsholm

"All the talk of Laidlaw's 100% kicking record seems to have jinxed him. He's missed 3 out of 4 in this game."

Missed penalty (Laidlaw)

Gloucester 6-8 Bath

This hasn't been a vintage rugby match, nor a vintage day with the boot from Laidlaw.

He misses his third kick at goal in this game.

Missed penalty (Laidlaw)

Gloucester 6-8 Bath

After review, we go back for a penalty to Gloucester as Dave Atwood is penalised for lifting a player in the tackle.

It looked a little harsh, but Gloucester didn't take advantage as Greig Laidlaw missed a long-range effort.

James Hook will be wondering why he wasn't given the ball there.

Try (Watson, missed con Ford)

Gloucester 6-8 Bath

Bath have pulled something out of nothing.

The ball goes through the hands to find Anthony Watson on the left wing, and with a one-on-one, he finishes superbly.

George Ford, with a difficult kick, hits the post again so Bath's advantage sits at two points.

And we're into the final quarter.

Gloucester 6-3 Bath

Bath make it to a 19th phase of possession, before a penalty is awarded to Gloucester.

And that gets Kingsholm rocking. Gritty defence from the home side but Bath just seemed to be going sideways.

They can't find any space this afternoon.

Gloucester 6-3 Bath

Oh dear. No luck in the maul for Bath so George Ford goes for the kick out to the wing, but there's no winger at home to collect.

Bath are looking slightly like a side that have just met.

Thankfully for Todd Blackadder's side, Henry Purdy calls mark but slices his kick into touch.

Bath will go again.

Gloucester 6-3 Bath

Here come the changes.

Dave Atwood comes on for Elliot Stooke in the Bath side, and Yann Thomas replaces Paddy McAllister at loosehead for Gloucester.

Bath have a lineout close to the Gloucester line and they'll try to get their maul going.

Sale 34-30 Leicester

And that is time up in Greater Manchester.

Superb effort by Sale to secure their second win of the season and their 200th Premiership victory.

Sale 34-30 Leicester

Penalty advantage again to Sale inside the final 90 seconds.

This time it's inside Leicester's half and they can happily boot the ball further up the park for the line-out.

Missed penalty (Ford)

Gloucester 6-3 Bath

George Ford goes for a kick right at the end of his kicking range, and it falls short.

55 minutes gone here so plenty of time for that elusive try to come.

Sale 34-30 Leicester

Leicester on the charge once more inside Sale's half, but Ed Slater holds on to the ball too long for the Tigers and they are penalised for not releasing.

Just over two minutes to go.

Penalty (Addison)

Sale 34-30 Leicester

Just over four minutes remaining and Will Addison kicks his sixth score from six attempts of the afternoon.

Could be a decisive one as Sale are back to full strength with Halani Aulika back on.

Sale 31-30 Leicester

Penalty to Sale as Leicester get caught offside on the fringes on the edge of their 22.

Chance for Sale to take a kick at goal and some vital points with just over five minutes left.

Penalty (Laidlaw)

Gloucester 6-3 Bath

But Gloucester have an immediate reply.

Greig Laidlaw back to his usual tricks to put Gloucester back in front.

Eight minutes into the second half, and we've doubled our points tally from the first!

Things are looking up.

Sale 31-30 Leicester

Seven minutes to go now at Sale and the hosts get a reprieve as a Leicester player is caught going over the top on the floor just as they were looking threatening.

A couple more minutes of being down to 14 as well for Steve Diamond's men.

Drop-goal (Ford)

Gloucester 3-3 Bath

And Bath have some points on the board, George Ford with his fourth drop-goal of the season.

Sale 31-30 Leicester

Into the last 10 minutes of this one. Sale in possession, but a man down remember with Halani Aulika in the sin bin.

Gloucester 3-0 Bath

Well, we've started with a Bath knock-on from Semesa Rokoduguni and a penalty to Bath at the scrum.

No change so far then, but the away side are putting together a passage of play here.

Bath are in their 10th phase...

Gloucester 3-0 Bath

We're back underway at Kingsholm.

The skies have brightened, so we're hoping the rugby will too.

Try (Thompstone, con Williams)

Sale 31-30 Leicester

What an effort that is for Leicester and Adam Thompstone.

Somehow the Tigers winger has got the ball down over the line despite being forced out of touch by two Sale players.

Replays show Thompstone just reached his arm out in time while in the air and before his feet made touch.

Owen Williams with another superb kick brings us back to within a point once again. Eleven minutes to play.

Incredible finish from Thompstone with 2 defenders on him and tight to the corner. 31-28 #SALvLEI

Sin-bin (Aulika)

Sale 31-23 Leicester

All manner of incidents in one passage of play there.

Leicester go in search of the line through Mike Fitzgerald and Adam Thompstone. We go upstairs for a second look, but Tigers knock it on just short.

But, the TMO does spot a side entry on the floor from Halani Aulika.

Craig Maxwell-Keys shows him the yellow card and Leicester go again for the try and Sale are down to 14.

Sale 31-23 Leicester

Sale pinned back in their own half for the first time in a long time.

Big long booming kick into touch from Telusa Veainu for Leicester goes to within five metres of the hosts' line.

Not the greatest exit from Sale and they can go again with a line-out from just 30 metres out.

We've been asking for your views on what you made of England's latest Elite player squad announced on Friday....

@bbcrugbyunion How is Luke Wallace not in the England set up? Huge oversight from EJ. #bbcrugby

...I may be wrong, but I think Wallace picked up an injury for Quins last week in their win against Saracens, which rules him out of contention for a while.

Missed penalty (O Williams)

Sale 31-23 Leicester

Chance goes begging off the tee for the first time for either side this afternoon.

Owen Williams with another long-range effort for Leicester to bring them back into things. It looked good for distance, but just swerved too far left of the posts.

Hour gone in this one and it could still go either way.

Gloucester 3-0 Bath

Stodgy. That would be my summary of the first half.

But expect both sides to come out firing in the second period.

I can't imagine those dressing rooms will be quiet places during the break.

Try (Aulika, con Addison)

Sale 31-23 Leicester

Try time once more for Sale and they have a bonus point in the bag.

Pressure in Leicester's 22 finally takes its toll and prop Halani Aulika barges his way through for a second try in as many weeks.

Nothing stopping the Tongan there. Addison once more adds the conversion and Sale have an eight-point lead approaching the hour mark.

60: @SaleSharksRugby 31-23 @LeicesterTigers. Halani Aulika with the bonus-point score for the home side! #AvivaPrem

Gloucester 3-0 Bath

Most of this game is being played on the half-way line with both sides in need of some dynamism.

We're dwindling our way to half-time at Kingsholm.

Sale 24-23 Leicester

Really big defence from Leicester continues as they hold Sale just short of the line from a rolling maul.

Fifty-five minutes played and now Sale bring on some reinforcements in their pack for the scrum.

Maul repelled on the Tigers line. Scrum 5, Sharks ball #SALvLEI

Sale 24-23 Leicester

More great attacking play from Sale, stringing the phases together at pace as they search a bonus-point try.

Leicester hold them just short and a penalty is awarded on their five-metre line.

Sale kick for the corner and the catch-and-drive.
