'Time to turn draws into wins' - Canning

Jane Lewis

BBC Sport Scotland

Ahead of the weekend clash with Partick Thistle, Hamilton Academical have drawn six of their last eight games.

Manager Martin Canning, who turns 35 on Saturday, says it is vital Accies start winning more.

"Taking three points is so important right now with the league being so tight," he said. "It's so important not to just win one game here and there but to try and put together a run of games.

"We'll need to be at our best, work hard and be organised to have any chance of taking the three points."

Albion Rovers consider Celtic tie switch

Jonathan Sutherland

BBC Sport Scotland

Albion Rovers will take a couple of days to bask in the glory of setting up a Scottish Cup tie with Celtic before considering where the club will play the match.

Rovers chairman Ronnie Boyd says it could be played at either Motherwell's Fir Park or Hamilton Academical's New Douglas Park.

"They have to be options," said Boyd.

"We would love to play it here [Cliftonhill] but we have to look at the safety of fans."

On This Day...

Neilson background

Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson will replace Karl Robinson as manager of MK Dons, who are 19th in England's third tier, should compensation be agreed.

A former Scotland and Leicester right-back, Neilson was given his first management job by his old club Hearts in May 2014.

He led his side to the Scottish Championship title and promotion in his first season in charge and they finished third in the top flight last term.

It is expected Neilson will take his assistant Stevie Crawford to MK Dons, who had previously been in talks with former England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

However, the 36-year-old said the vacancy came "a bit too soon" for him after his exit from LA Galaxy.

Robinson's six-year reign at MK Dons ended in October, following a poor start to the season having been relegated from the Championship last term.

Neilson 'well within his rights' to talk to other clubs - Canning

Jane Lewis

BBC Sport Scotland

Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson is heavily tipped to become the new manager of English league one side MK Dons, after holding talks with them last night.

Hamilton player-manager Martin Canning says he understands the interest in the Hearts boss.

"He's done a great job at Hearts over the last couple of years and if that generates interest from elsewhere then that's part of the game," said Canning.

"If someone else is offering him something different that he wants to have a look at, then I would say he's within his rights to go and do that.

"I don't know what Robbie is thinking, I haven't spoken to him, but if he gets that opportunity and he thinks it's the right opportunity for do him then that's football."
