Andy Murray celebrates

We will be back tomorrow.

Hopefully with news of a historic day for British tennis.

The alternative does not really bear thinking about.

See you there.

This is a great situation to be in but we know how tough Goffin is and he has the crowd on his side.

Tomorrow never knows

So, after the trips to the likes of Lithuania at the beginning of the century, after being matched with traditional powerhouses, United States, France and Australia in the draw for this year's competition, Great Britain are one measly singles rubber from a first Davis Cup in 79 years.

Andy Murray beat David Goffin 6-1 6-0 at the Paris Masters earlier this month.

But this is Ghent not France, this is clay not hard.

This might be a totally different matter entirely.

Amy Hopes: Well done Andy & Jamie! That was a brilliant performance!

Lee Popplewell: Well done Andy & Jamie. Class tennis and class entertainment! Brilliant support too.

Andy and Jamie head towards the dressing rooms, strolling within a few feet of the Davis Cup that looms alluringly at the side of the court.

Jamie is all smiles and signatures for the fans. His job for the weekend is done.

His brother has one more bit of business to see to...

'Two chances to win it tomorrow'

"We just needed to find a way to win more points on Jamie's return side, we got more aggressive and started to turn it around. It was a great tactical mix-up. I will prepare like any other match for tomorrow. He is a world-class player with the crowd behind him it will be a difficult match. We have two chances to try and win it tomorrow and if you have offered us that at the start we would have taken it."

Andy Murray

'The noise was mental'

There was so much noise, it was mental. We were shouting to each other at times but it's brilliant, and it's what you expect with so many passionate fans here for the final.

The doubles is done and Great Britain, the Murrays, have won this one. They’ve inched Britain closer to the Davis Cup victory they so, so have longed for. That is a simply fabulous advert for doubles, and for teamwork. That was a demonstration of world class tennis.

Captain reaction

Leon Smith

There was a lot of stress and tension. Picking Goffin didn't surprise us and we knew it would be a dogfight but our boys played better throughout and produced an excellent performance yet again.

Belgium 4-6 6-4 3-6 2-6 GB

The final point saw Steve Darcis clump a return way, way wide.

That half of the Belgian partnership seemed to fade fast in the latter half of the match.]

Britain will win the Davis Cup for the first time in 79 years tomorrow if Andy Murray beats David Goffin or if the Britain number two singles player - at the moment Kyle Edmund - beats his Belgian opponent - most probably Steve Darcis.

Andy Murray celebrates

Job's a good'un.

The Murrays came through a situation that threatened to get right out of hand.

Steve Darcis is suddenly looking weary and worn...

Great Britain plunder his serve for two break points at 15-40.

David Goffin dribbles a volley into the net.

Great Britain a double break up and Jamie Murray will serve to put Great Britain ahead on the tie's scoreboard for the first time.

*Belgium 4-6 6-4 3-6 2-4 GB

The Andy Murray serve is tied down tight.

The Belgian pair look like tail-enders caught in the full beam of Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar as they fold out to love, struggling to get a return back into court.

The students in the British section expend some of that boundless energy on a chorus in praise of Murray minor.

Jamie Murray

I might be imagining things but didn’t we say that that previous game was the one that mattered when we look back? Seven break points saved from 0-40 down. That’s a real feather in Jamie Murray's cap

Belgium 4-6 6-4 3-6 2-3 GB*

Belgium rattle on to 40-0 as the Brits catch their breath in the wake of that titanic tussle in the previous game.

A lovely volley from Jamie Murray splits the Belgian pair down the middle and throws a brief spanner in the spokes.

But David Goffin, with a lovely feel forehand down the line seals the deal.

Jackie Kirby: I'm just heartened by the young supporters. It bodes well for the future of UK tennis. Can barely watch this match. Excellent game.

Zoe Emma: This match is causing me so much stress but I can't look away

Miles Maclagan

A heroic effort from the Brits in that game, particularly from Jamie Murray to dig it out.

GB hold

*Belgium 4-6 6-4 3-6 1-3 GB

Andy Murray celebrate

Might that be the game wot won it for Great Britain?

Andy and Jamie Murray defend seven break points to deny the Belgians the immediate break back.

Andy sealed it with a deft little tickle volley out of reach and almost under the umpire's chair.

Belgium with seventh break point

Belgium 4-6 6-4 3-6 1-2 GB*

A fourth break point is squandered by Steve Darcis.

Great Britain treading water rather than swimming for the finishline at the moment.

Darcis with another break point. And a Jamie Murray second serve to look at. He wallops into the net as Andy Murray creeps across the front of the net to put him on return.

Here comes a sixth (!) break point of the game though...and a Jamie Murray kick serve is good enough to scrape it back off the table.

Number seven coming up...

GB recover to deuce

Belgium 4-6 6-4 3-6 1-2 GB*

Great Britain repair some of the damage, Jamie Murray slam-dunking away an overhead to make it back to the sanctuary of deuce from 0-40 down.

Three break points Belgium

Belgium 4-6 6-4 3-6 1-2 GB*

Don't start reading the last rites on David Goffin and Steve Darcis just yet.

Darcis whips a backhand return away for 0-30 in response to the Jamie Murray serve.

Another sublime angle from Darcis - who has surely played his way into tomorrow's singles - brings up 0-40 and three break points.

Watch British fans celebrate

When the going gets tough, the fans get going...

Sing when you're winning. GB take the 3rd set.

GB break

Andy Murray

Andy Murray is all over the front of the court like an outbreak of head lice in nursery.

The world number two hammers away the killer volley after a Steve Darcis double-fault had handed GB a break point on a platter.

GB bring up deuce

*Belgium 4-6 6-4 3-6 1-1 GB

Andy and Jamie Murray are turning the screws now. A backhand from Andy that perfectly bisects the Belgians brings up deuce.

No-one like bisected Belgians.

Andrew Castle

BBC Sport tennis commentator

That is a big hold. A point they should have lost to go 0-40 but then coming through the fire.

GB hold

*Belgium 4-6 6-4 3-6 1-1 GB

Andy Murray's block-buster serve is a weapon that no-one else on court has.

It is a bazooka at a knife fight.

Steve Darcis can only pat his return wide on the final point.

GB taken to deuce

Belgium 4-6 6-4 3-6 1-0 GB*

Steve Darcis and David Goffin

A deliriously good point to start Andy Murray's service game - back and forth they whack and wheedle before David Goffin plugs away a backhand to finally take it.

Goffin slides away an angle on volley for 0-30 - six points in a row for the Belgians at the start of the set.

Brilliant reflex volley from Jamie followed by a delicious top-spinning lob from Andy stops the rot.

A ram-jamming serve brings up 40-30, but Steve Darcis dismissively dusts a backhand across court to bring up deuce.

Belgium 4-6 6-4 3-6 1-0 GB*

David Goffin breezes through the first game of the fourth set to love.

*Belgium 4-6 6-4 3-6 GB

A bit of a hold up before the start of the fourth set as the Belgian boys head off for a bathroom break and the umpire descends from the crow's nest to deal with some sort of issue courtside.

All sorted. We are back ready. David Goffin to serve...

Game and third set

*Belgium 4-6 6-4 3-6 GB

Andy Murray celebrates

Steve Darcis cracks into the top of the net as he tries to ping a forehand into the nether regions of the Murray brothers and end Judy's chances of grandkids. That is 40-15 and two set points.

The second is the keeper for Great Britain as a pacy Andy tee-off is too hot for Darcis to handle.

The hipster John Bull figure in the crowd - blue bushy beard and union jack sunnies to accompany his braces and sharp slacks - enjoyed that.

Tom Gumbleton: I can't take this drama and sense of historic occasion in the #DavisCupFinal my heart is beating too fast.

GB break

Belgium 4-6 6-4 3-5 GB*

It has been Breaksville, Tennessee so far in this set.

Jamie Murray hammers away on the backhand, hard into the red dirt to bring up 0-40.

David Goffin's wrist crumples under the sting of the British groundstrokes on the next point.

Can Andy Murray break the trend, hold serve and close out this strange old third set?

David Goffin

Adam Pake: Seriously now, how are they doing it? Darcis is 502 in doubles and Goffin has barely played doubles in his life!

Andrew Bak: Jamie Murray's really been struggling these last two sets. He needs to up his game otherwise we'll lose.

Belgium break

*Belgium 4-6 6-4 3-4 GB

If Jamie Murray can hold here, then Andy Murray will have the chance to serve for the set at worse for Britain.

Jamie's is the weaker tee-off though and a Darcis forehand down the middle exposes too much space between the Murray clan.

Andy Murray into the net - two break points.

And David Goffin hustles Britain out of the first...

GB break again

Belgium 4-6 6-4 2-4 GB*

Great Britain are on rise.

Andy Murray's volley drops door-nail dead for 30-30.

And then confusion and controversy.

A ball on the Belgian baseline takes half the line, but the line judge call it in...and then out. The umpire out of the chair, Leon Smith rolling his eyes.

It's a let.

No matter, Steve Darcis cannot keep the lid on a volley. Long it flies for 30-40 and break point.

Jamie steps in and volleys away for a winner!

Annabel Croft

Former British number one on Radio 5 live sports extra

Very different body language from Britain as they head back to their seats. Suddenly they are back on track again and it's the Belgians who look a bit down.
