You can only really get away with the stunts Kyrgios pulls & behaviour when you actually win matches #bbctennis

Fair point Rob... It is entertaining though.

Player reaction

Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 6-1 4-6

Tomas Berdych: What changed? He was playing unbelievable tennis through the third set.

"Is is difficult. I was tryuing to keep myself focused and not looking over the net.

"The crowd is amazing. I played a guy from Australia and they were really fair. "

Game, set and match

Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 6-1 4-6 Berdych

The first of three match points is saved but a double fault from Kyrgios and that is it.

Entertaining stuff from the Australian at time but he certainly flattered to deceive.

Tomas Berdych takes the applause of the crowd. Solid, solid stuff from the Czech.

Match point Berdych

*Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 6-1 4-5 Berdych

First strike Berdych as Nick Kyrgios is long with a forehand. 0-15.

Big chance for the Czech now as he sends a brilliant winner down the line. 0-30.

Another brilliant forehand winner. Match point.

*Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 6-1 4-5 Berdych

Tomas Berdych's first double fault of the set and it is 15-15. A sign of nerves?

Nope. The Czech responds with a deep forehand that Kyrgios does well to reach, but can only find the net.

Kyrgios looks incredulous as Berdych's first serve is called in. He wins his challenge, but blows the chance by netting his next return. 40-15.

More tension as Berdych double faults again but he manages to hold. A game from the fourth round.

Can't concentrate on work with the #Kyrgios game updates in the background. Gah!! #bbctennis #AusOpen2016

Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 6-1 4-4 Berdych*

That is sheer power.

His feet are all wrong, he isn't even set, but that doesn't stop him hammering away a monstrous forehand winner.

Nick Kyrgios is loving it out here as he holds to 15.

Kyrgios being obnoxious, in other news it gets dark at night #bbctennis

*Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 6-1 3-4 Berdych

A 24th forehand winner from Tomas Berdych starts his service game in style before a 17th unforced error with the same shot pegs it back at 15-15.

Kyrgios returns out from a big Berdych serve but is level again as he makes a delicious backhand down the line winner.

Berdych takes a breath as his overhead smash is chased down by Kyrgios but sent into the net. Serve held to 30.

Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 6-1 3-3 Berdych*

First point Tomas Berdych. A forehand cross court can't be reached by Nick Kyrgios.

Another lengthy baseline rally, Berdych looks solid, and Kyrgios goes wide. A sniff of a break.

Kyrgios responds with his 16th ace out wide but is down two break points as the Czech comes to the net, lands a volley onto the top of the tape and dead.

Boom. Boom. Two more aces from Kyrgios to the rescue. Game point for the Australian after a volley at the net and a stunning pick up at the net holds serve. Get. Out. Of. Jail.

*Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 6-1 2-3 Berdych

Tomas Berdych is not letting Kyrgios' antics get to him... or is he?

After racing into a 30-0 lead he loses a couple of lengthy rallies, suddenly looking a tad tight.

Big point at 30-30... second serve... an exchange from the baseline before Berdych comes in on a short backhand and fires the ball into the corner. No chance Kyrgios.

Stunning from the Czech. He looks beaten by a thunderous shot down the line by Kyrgios but responds with a wicked low winner back down the line. Good hold.

Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 6-1 2-2 Berdych*

What a contrast.

Tomas Berdych. Calm, emotionless, solid.

Nick Kyrgios. Languid, flamboyant, temperamental.

Someone in the crowd calls for an ace and the Australian duly obliges before pointing his racket in celebration.

Easy hold.

Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 6-1 1-2 Berdych*

Berdych's expression gives nothing away. No emotion as he dumps a routine forehand volley into the net. 15-15.

A 'no' is shouted by Kyrgios, who can't control his first-serve return before another cry of something comes from him as he hits a backhand well wide.

Tomas Berdych holds serve efficiently.

He hasn't lost before the quarter-finals at the Australian Open since 2010 and he isn't about to let that record go easily.

Some big serving from Nick Kyrgios before a forehand down the line holds his serve.

This could yet turn into a classic.

Imagine if Nick Kyrgios had the attitude of a champion, instead of that of a petulant 5 year old. He has so much ability. #BBCTennis

*Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 6-1 0-1 Berdych

Tomas Berdych needs a good start and he gets one as he sends an ace down the middle. He follows that up with a winning forehand to move to 30-0.

A volley from the net brings him game point after putting Kyrgios on the defensive with a forehand and another serve seals the game to love.

Game and third set

Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 6-1 Berdych*

Nick Kyrgios looked out of this 33 minutes ago. He is now very much back in it.

A ridiculous array of shots, none from the coaching manual, drag him back into the match.

The home crowd are up... they believe.... and so does Kyrgios.

Anything could happen next. Do not take your eyes off this.

#Kyrgios is a showman... Where was this game two sets ago?!? #AusOpen #tennis #bbctennis

*Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 5-1 Berdych

Now it is Tomas Berdych's time to smash down an ace. A far more classic style than the languid Kyrgios.

The Australian chastises the umpire for not allowing him to challenge - despite making the call too late.

Kyrgios is enjoying himself. He forces deuce with an incredible flat low forehand pass. That is not in the text books... and he performs a little job to celebrate.

A calm Berdych serves it out.

Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 5-0 Berdych*

Nick Kyrgios is taken to deuce on his serve but an ace gives him advantage.

A bizarre choice of shot though as Kyrgios plays the ball from between his legs from the baseline into the net. Why did he do that?

Another game point for Kyrgios after an ace but Berdych saves that with a winning forehand onto the baseline.

Another ace from a smilling Kyrgios but another winner from Berdych. Deuce again.

Incredible. Kyrgios's sixth ace of the game and he pumps up the crowd as Berdych goes long. He is undoubtedly an entertainer.

Kyrgios breaks!

*Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 4-0 Berdych

Wow. Nick Kyrgios sends an absolute screaming forehand past Tomas Berdych. 15-30.

Berdych just ruthlessly slams down an unreturnable first serve in reply though.

Another break point for Kyrgios as he lands a shot just on the baseline and Berdych nets.

Double break secured with Berdych sending a forehand wide. The tide has turned.

Not sure I've ever followed a Kyrgios match where he hasn't totally lost it. V entertaining, but why won't he chill #bbctennis #AusOpen

I was always taught that 90% of tennis was mental, and the rest was ability. Kyrgios is definitely just in that 10% bracket. #BBCTennis

Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 3-0 Berdych*

Nick Kyrgios is constantly talking to himself.

He trades forehands with Berdych at 15-15 but, again, loses the battle as he is sent wide and nets.

Berdych can't return a big first serve though and it is back to 30-30.

Ace. 40-30. Thunderous first serve and Berdych can't return. Kyrgios is on a roll.

Kyrgios breaks

*Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 2-0 Berdych

Back on the Rod Laver Arena and Nick Kyrgios has a break point.

He needs this... Berdych second serve, Kyrgios returns deep and the Czech is wide.

More cheer for the home crowd. Some hope?

Some reason for cheer for the Australian crowd as home favourite Daria Gavrilova, 21, wins an absolute thriller.

Game and second set

*Kyrgios 3-6 4-6 Berdych

Back to the tennis... kind of.

Nick Kyrgios again drops his racket to the ground as he sends a forehand long to give Berdych two set points.

Ace and Berdych is in control.

Kyrgios meanwhile appears to have very little control... he goes back to continue shouting at the umpire.

Kyrgios 3-6 4-5 Berdych*

"Mate there is music when we are playing. Is it allowed to be playing?". Nick Kyrgios is continuing the argument.

The umpire responds by saying "I asked you if you wanted to stop". "No, you didn't" says Kyrgios. He did actually Nick...

Berdych sits on his seat with his eyes closed, totally unfazed.

Kyrgios 3-6 4-5 Berdych*

Nick Kyrgios is losing the plot. It's good fun though.

The Australian is now upset about some noise coming from the crowd. "Music is okay?" he asks the umpire... who isn't quite sure what he is talking about.

Now - at 40-15 - he chucks his racket on the ground and starts laughing as he hears more music from somehow.

"You want to stop, we stop" says the umpire.

The Aussie plays on and holds - before carrying on his argument at the break.

Nick Kyrgios

*Kyrgios 3-6 3-5 Berdych

Nick Kyrgios is simply being outplayed at the moment. He can't find an answer to Berdych's serve...

Maybe I've spoken too early as an error from the Czech makes it 30-30. Big point.

No problems for Berdych though as Kyrgios dollies a return from a first serve short and the Czech powers away the winner.

Back to deuce - and again - but Kyrgios is left ranting at himself again as Berdych holds on.

#bbctennis Kyrgios cud do with a few clips around the ear from some Aussie legends like Laver, The Woodies & LH & he might snap out of it.

Berdych breaks!

Kyrgios 3-6 3-4 Berdych*

Trouble for Kyrgios perhaps as he loops a forehand way over the baseline on the first point of the game.

Big trouble now as it goes to 0-30 after the Australian is wide with a backhand.

A clench of the first from Berdych, who sets up three break points with a booming forehand winner.

The first is saved but this is sensational from Berdych. Three deep approach shots have Kyrgios on the back foot and the Czach advances to the net to put away a short ball and earn the break.

*Kyrgios 3-6 3-3 Berdych

A solid volley from Tomas Berdych at the net and Nick Kyrgios sends one well long.

The Aussie finds the net, unable to control his return from Berdych's first serve, and the game is won to 15 with Berdych's third ace of the match.

Great, great serving.

Kyrgios 3-6 3-2 Berdych*

The second set continues on serve.

A first serve down the middles curls away from Tomas Berdych and he wins the game to 30.

Now the Australian just needs to find a way to break Berdych's seemingly impregnable serve... easier said than done.

Djokovic wins

Djokovic 6-1 7-5 6-6 (8-6) Seppi

"Waaaaaahhh!" comes the reaction from Djokovic as he wins the tie break to be victorious in straight sets.

Part of that scream was frustration that he wasn't on his best game, but Seppi's constant propensity to find the bottom half of the net on so much of his return play was the undoing of all his resilience.
