Murray time

Righto, that's the live parked for the evening. Andy Murray is up later and we will have a report on the website almost as soon as he's done battling Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic.

Leon Smith

Great Britain Davis Cup captain

It was a good match – it's always tough when it’s two Brits playing each other. Naomi is probably more match tight and confident, Laura is still getting the belief back. But it’s good to have another Brit into the second round of a main draw, even if one has to go out.

It’s a great thrill having Brits getting through, it gives everyone momentum and plenty to talk about.

Robson will need to come close more often before she’s able to get over the line. Laura looked utterly sick, as you’d expect, walking off court, but this has been the best two or three weeks for her for three years.

Broady breaks new ground

That, by the way, was Naomi Broady's first win in the main draw at Flushing Meadows. As for Laura Robson, she's still only won one match on the main tour this year but did show signs that she was getting back to her best. Broady will next play the winner of the game between fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska and American qualifier Jessica Pegula.

Broady wins all-British clash

Broady 6-7 6-3 6-4 Robson

Broady unfurls a forehand winner down the line for 0-30 before spraying a moon ball from Broady miles wide. And that's your lot, Robson going long again and Broady breaking to love.

Broady 6-7 6-3 5-4 Robson*

No such problems for Broady on her serve as she moves into a 40-15 lead, although she promptly sends down a double fault. But that is a hold for the woman from Stockport and Robson will serve to stay in the match.

Both women have to do better with these opportunities - you have to seize the intiative.

Broady* 6-7 6-3 4-4 Robson

Broady getting stuck into some drink and gels between games, while Robson is a study in serenity. Broady balloons a forehand long but follows that with a beast of a backhand that clips the baseline. Double from Robson for 15-30, glimmer for Broady... she frames a backhand return wide... Robson pulls out an ace down the middle, her sixth, before serving up another double. Broady has a good look at that second serve but misses with the return before flailing a forehand long. Robson was in all sorts of trouble with her serve there but Broady let her off the hook.

Broady 6-7 6-3 4-3 Robson*

Marvellous rally, which finishes with Robson attempting a hot dog between her legs when perhaps she could have just lobbed one up. Another long rally and this one ends with a poor shot into the base of the net - break point saved. Good serve out wide from Broady and Robson is unable to deal with it and that's a hold. Still too close to call.

Broady* 6-7 6-3 3-3 Robson

Broady soaking up the hits behind the baseline and waiting for Robson to make the error, which she does for 15-30. Broady flays a forehand miles long, before Robson nets with a forehand, her 32nd unforced error. Break point... Broady fires a backhand return into the net. Double fault from Robson, her seventh, but Broady blows a second break point with an errant backhand. Broady with the drop-shot but Robson has it covered, chasing it down and putting away the forehand winner. Broady sprays a forehand wide and Robson is out of another hole.

Broady 6-7 6-3 3-2 Robson*

Broady breezes through another service game, she's now won 11 points in a row on serve. Broady looking the most likely heading towards the business end.

Broady* 6-7 6-3 2-2 Robson

Deary me, Broady top-edges a return which takes an age to come down and Robson sprays her drive-volley well wide. Terrific tennis there, Robson finishing a lengthy baseline rally with a backhand pass. That's a hold...

Ace out wide by Broady for 30-0, followed by some neat work at the net for 40-0. Robson nets with a forehand, that's a hold to love...

Broady* 6-7 6-3 1-1 Robson

This one goes to deuce, and this really is very difficult to call at the moment. Robson with a whipped forehand winner for the advantage, an ace for the advantage again, before Broady hammers a forehand long to hand her opponent the game.

5 live sports extra

Simon Briggs

Daily Telegraph tennis correspondent on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

This is where the seasons they have had play a massive part – Broady is at about 65% of matches won this year, and Robson is probably at about the opposite. To break there would have given Robson a massive boost but now she has to defend her serve, which has been an issue for her all year with that suspect ball toss.

Broady 6-7 6-3 1-0 Robson*

We think that prolonged break was in order for Broady to change her dress, she returned with a sweaty item and chucked it under her chair. Before promptly pounding another ace down Robson's way. Robson showing good movement, sweeping towards the net and putting away the cross-court backhand. Break point. Robson has a chance but pokes her forehand wide but that's better, a swept forehand down the line. However, Broady stands tall again, holding with a whipped forehand down the line.

Broady 6-7 6-3 0-0 Robson*

Broady has left the court for a comfortableness break, while Robson sits Sphynx-like on her seat, pondering what on earth just happened. We appear to have a heat rule in place, either that or Naomi Broady has got lost on the way back from the toilet, a la Spinal Tap...

Broady* 6-7 6-3 Robson

Three break points and three set points for Broady, who has now won nine points in a row. Double fault, and I'm not sure where that came from, one minute Broady looked like her head was gone, the next she was romping to the set. Odd.

Now the cricket is over, you can follow coverage from Flushing Meadows on 5 live sports extra.

Broady 6-7 5-3 Robson*

Straightforward hold for Broady that's three games in a row for her and suddenly the pendulum has swung the other way. Robson serving to stay in the set.

Broady* 6-7 4-3 Robson

Robson hauls a forehand wide for 15-30 but gets the next one right, skimming the back of the line. But here's a break point as Robson leans back and heaves a backhand long and Broady snatches it, courtesy of a searching backhand return down the line.

Broady 6-7 3-3 Robson*

Broady moves into a 40-15 lead behind that big serve of hers before Robson stiffs her with a smart backhand pass. But that's ace number 12 and another hold for Broady.

Broady* 6-7 2-3 Robson

Forehand winner from Broady before Robson nets with a backhand for 0-30. Robson finds a couple of decent serves to level, another to inch ahead, and another to hold. Good recovery.

Broady 6-7 2-2 Robson*

Broady's concentration appears to have been broken by something and here she is having a nag at the umpire over a line call. Better, outmuscling Robson from behind the baseline, before sending an ace down the middle - that's her 10th of the match. And another out wide, Broady is back in the room...

Broady* 6-7 1-2 Robson

Suddenly Broady has started to unravel, unforced errors flowing from her racquet as Robson seals another straightforward hold.

Broady 6-7 1-1 Robson*

Robson latches onto a backhand return for 0-15 and here are two more break points as Broady carves a backhand wide. This time her serve can't save her and it's a break back for Robson.

Broady* 6-7 1-0 Robson

Nice work by Broady, a wrong-footing backhand, and suddenly she's got three break points. Robson finds a hefty first serve to save one but hooks a forehand wide for the first break of the match.

Watson illness a mystery

Heather Watson

Heather Watson was visibly struggling during her straight-sets defeat by Dutch qualifier Richel Hogenkamp earlier, and there is worrying news from the British number two.

Watson suffered a debilitating bout of glandular fever in 2013, and has just admitted: "I feel similar, yeah."

The 24-year-old added: "It was horrible to play. I was very ill today. I've had a fever for the last three days but playing in this heat is almost impossible when you feel that bad.

"I've been to see the doctor. I'm going to get some blood tests done and figure out what it was."

Game and first set

Tie-break: Broady 4-7 Robson

Broady floats a backhand wide and Robson now has the mini-break. Broady frame a backhand well long and here are two set points for Robson... Broady into the net with a backhand return, Robson wins the first set.

Tie-break

Broady 4-3 Robson

Broady to serve first and she wins the first point courtesy of a net cord. Great forehand down the line by Robson but she misses with another to hand Broady the mini-break. Broady extends the lead to 3-1 with a thumping forehand winner before Robson wipes the mini-break out. Broady misses with an attempted cross-court pass for 3-3, Robson having needed three more tosses to get her first serve down the other end. Broady hammers a forehand down the line for 4-3, this is a proper punch-up...

Broady* 6-6 Robson

Robson's serve isn't working too badly either, that's a hold to love to force a rather predictable tie-break...

Broady 6-5 Robson*

Two break points for Robson, set up by a ripper of a forehand winner that skims the line. Broady saves one with an ace out wide, her seventh, and the second with an ace out wide, her eighth. Three in a row and she holds courtesy of another whopper down the middle, that Robson can only frame into the crowd. Robson serving to stay in the set.

Broady* 5-5 Robson

It's 34C in New York today, and even closer than yesterday, or so I'm told. The first lengthy rally of the game there and Robson comes out on top, finishing it with a forehand down the line. Cracking backhand, cross-court winner to follow, Robson hold.

Broady 5-4 Robson*

Solid stuff from Broady, stepping in behind that big old serve and putting away the forehand winner with the minimum of fuss, Robson serving to save the set.

Broady* 4-4 Robson

Robson really middling it out there, the ball making a sweet sound almost every time she makes contact. That's a good return by Broady, right onto Robson's toes, before Robson hits the back fence almost on the full with a wild forehand. Great whipped forehand from Robson to hold.

Broady 4-3 Robson*

Dynamite first serve from Broady for 15-30, that is a real weapon when it's working. That's a fine cross-court forehand from Robson for two break points before Broady hits back with a 118mph ace down the middle. Solid volley from Broady for deuce, before another ace gives her the advantage. That's very good from Broady, who found herself in a hole and smashed her away out of it.

Broady* 3-3 Robson

Robson with a fine serve out wide before unveiling the drive-volley for 15-15. More trouble with the ball toss from Robson but otherwise her serve is working OK. Another crunching first serve to hold.

Broady 3-2 Robson*

Robson leaves Broady flailing with another magnificent forehand before Broady serves up an angled first serve that Robson can only fend into the net and Broady sends down her third ace to hold. Not much in it at the moment, although Broady looking the more likely.

Broady* 2-2 Robson

Not much for the purists out on Court 13, it's crash, bang, wallop, boom or bust stuff at the moment. Robson frames a forehand miles wide before Broady steps into a backhand which Robson is unable to deal with. Another purely-hit forehand winner from Broady for deuce, before a crunching backhand forces another. Broady nicks the advantage but Robson saves the break point courtesy of a biffing backhand. Ace Robson, and another for the hold...
