See you tomorrow...

Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 7-6 (7-5) Isner

But tonight I'll give the last word to one of you guys as you've been great company. Thanks for all the chat and for staying up.

Erin, the floor is yours...

Right. Muzza. Evo. Tomorrow you make it 4 Brits into R4, yes? #bbctennis #USOpen #backthebrits

We will be back tomorrow for all the British action. Take a look at the schedule, we envisage it being around 20:00 BST.

Night all. Kyle Edmund, you hero.

More smiles tomorrow?

Andy Murray
.

Tomorrow both Andy Murray and Dan Evans will take to the court. Evans has to grapple with Stan Wawrinka, Murray will be expected to beat Paolo Lorenzi, the world number 40.

Great Britain can't get four players into the last-16 can it?

I know we are all glowing from the Team GB Olympic glory but come on. Are we just being greedy now?

What have you missed?

Wozniacki and Tsonga

So what have we seen in all today?

Johanna Konta breezed to a third round win against Belinda Bencic, setting up a meeting with Anastasija Sevastova courtesy of a 6-2 6-1 win.

There were also wins for Caroline Wozniacki, Roberta Vinci, Petra Kvitova and a superb comeback from 5-1 down in a deciding set for Madison Keys. All of these women make the last-16 stage.

In men's action, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was too good for Kevin Anderson, Jack Sock upset Marin Cilic and Novak Djokovic won through courtesy of another opponent being unable to finish a match, Mikhail Youzhny the unlucky man.

As we have said, it will be Djokovic v Kyle Edmund in the last-16.

Rafa control

Over on Arthur Ashe Stadium Rafa Nadal is in control, he's 6-1 6-4 up on Andrey Kuznetsov.

Unforced errors are doing for the Russian, 27 in all.

Nadal, fourth seed, will meet Frenchman Lucas Pouille - the 24th seed - if he wins one more set.

Edmund reaction

Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 7-6 (7-5) Isner

Kyle Edmund reacts to his win on court: "It's been a great tournament so far. I've really enjoyed playing here. It may not have been the result you guys wanted but I want to say thank for the support.

"I think playing John, your chances don't come very often. You have to capitalise when they come. You see how many aces he hits. You just have to get a racquet on the ball and hustle really. I played the big points well. I knew it would come down to one or two points. I'm just very pleased."

On meeting Novak Djokovic next: "It's going to be a tough match playing the world number one. He's there, rightfully so. He's been very consistent this year at a high level. It's always nice playing someone again. Playing Isner at the French helped me tonight so perhaps the fact I played Novak in march will help me."

'Perfect'

The tactics were perfect. He's young, but that was a veteran performance out there from Kyle Edmund. I tip the cap.

Have some of that

Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 7-6 (7-5) Isner

The emotion on Kyle Edmund's face was wonderful to see there. He screamed and looked aggressive while doing so. It was not a celebration of shock or relief, more of belief and conviction.

Edmund reaches round four

Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 7-6 (7-5) Isner

John Isner just will not go down, he serves and reduces it to 6-5. I think everyone is trembling. It's Kyle Edmund now serving, one match point.

The ball is returned, on to his trusty forehand... WINNER.

What a cracking contest, exhilarating finish, a super 162 minutes.

Tie break: 6-4 Edmund

Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 6-6 Isner

We go past two hours and 40 minutes, still there is drama as John Isner challenges a call but the Kyle Edmund ball is in, by perhaps half a centimetre. My word, how close can you get.

That's match point, 6-3. Isner responds and hits a winner.

Tie break: 5-3 Edmund

Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 6-6 Isner

A wide serve from John Isner is brilliantly placed and 119mph but Kyle Edmund throws himself at it and gets it back, much to the American's shock. Isner can only volley into the net.

Isner attempts a lob in desperation to get back on terms but it's long. Edmund raises a hand.

Tie break: 3-3

Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 6-6 Isner

A forehand return from John Isner is long but again the serve digs him out. What a time to find a 137mph boomer. They change ends.

Tie break: 2-2

Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 6-6 Isner

A big ace from John Isner halves the deficit and he's back on level terms, can't split them in this set as Edmund finds the net.

2-0 Edmund

Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 6-6 Isner

A corking down the line effort gives Kyle Edmund the early lead. Over to the John Isner serve, Are you feeling it folks? A rally breaks out, is Isner's back hand out? No. They go on, Isner with another backhand...net. Was that ball too close to his body? He looked cramped up.

Tie break

Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 6-6 Isner

Some big serves and a sweet forehand from John Isner take him to 40-0. Hard to deal with when he gets the groove going but it's just not happened when he's not had the ball in his hand.

His 126mph serve to conclude this game is laced with joy. That's how you whack it folks. It's a tie break.

The poise from Kyle Edmund at this stage of the match is incredible.

Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 6-5 Isner*

We have a John Isner tantrum. He taps his racquet on the floor.

Why? He's 0-30 up at 5-5 in the fourth and thinks Kyle Edmund has served wide. Isner cannot challenge, he's used his three. "That's so out," he shouts. Edmund is back to 30-30, he cares little for these emotions and closes the game out expertly. An ace followed by an Isner miscue.

*Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 5-5 Isner

Kyle Edmund with a super return, finding the feet of John Isner who just cannot respond. That's 15-30, Edmund is two points from the last-16.

Again there's an opening with Isner at the net, will Edmund make the pass? No, a very smart backhand volley creeps across court, 30-30. Isner's heart must have been in his mouth there. He's on the brink of exit.

He needs an ace... gets one... no. It's ruled out by hawkeye. Oh you can feel it's edgy. Gutsy as he responds by powering one down and Edmund can't clear the net.

Serve-volley from Isner, that's game and a big fist pump. We go on. We go on.

Kyle Edmund follows his opposite number to be 15-30 down on serve but a backhand from John Isner finds the net. He gives it the full monty, berating himself.

A nice rally breaks out, they move one another around a little, who will play their trump card? Isner rushes to the net, this will be key... brilliant backhand pass from Kyle Edmund. What a beauty, he steered that wonderfully and completes the hold on the next point.

Ace, ace, ace...

*Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 4-4

I don't like watching ace after ace but when someone can do that three times in a row under intense pressure, you have to admire the skill required to do it.

*Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 4-4 Isner

I must admit, I thought John Isner was cooked. There's life in this yet though. Get a coffee in folks.

*Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 4-4 Isner

As this has evolved, it's not all about the serve.

Yes, that terrible 43% of first serves in for John Isner in the third set was very costly, but across the four sets so far, the service stats are not too dissimilar. It's 64% of first serves in for Isner, 55% for Kyle Edmund.

The difference on the stats at least is in unforced errors, 40 for the American, 20 for the Briton.

A 900th ace of the season for Isner - just the 137mph - gives him game point having been 15-30 down and he closes it out, ace again - 4-4.

It's not about the serve, it's the errors.

Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 4-3 Isner*

When in doubt, when questions are being asked, when the pressure is on... go to what you know.

Kyle Edmund resorts to default and that's the forehand. The first is a whipper down the line to earn a 40-30 lead, the second is across court and when he finally frees up his right hand it's to punch the air.

A loose forehand from John Isner puts him 15-30 down on serve, there's a lob chance for Kyle Edmund here if he can make it to the bouncing ball near the net... it's six inches too long though as Isner turned around to stare at the dropping ball.

The American is using all his experience here, sending Edmund chasing on the next point and even an acrobatic slide can't retrieve that ball. Game point Isner... ace.

My Olympic late night training is paying off! #bbctennis

We were just saying the same thing Kurt. No sooner are we out of the late night trenches here we are back in them. Hang in there mate.

Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 3-2 Isner*

All credit to John Isner. His body language is that of a lost puppy between points but he's still slugging away when the ball is live.

At 30-30 in this Kyle Edmund service game he has hope but what a way to dampen it, a quite stunning cross-court backhand from Edmund. Even the stretch of the 6ft 10in American can't get there.

Edmund, sometimes called 'Kedders' by those he calls pals, closes out to lead 3-2.

*Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 2-2 Isner

We tick towards two hours of play as John Isner sends a kick serve down and Kyle Edmund finds the net. That's 40-30.

Isner has handed out 34 unforced errors so far to Edmund's 16. He holds though as the British player is long on another return.

I'll go for: "I need my bed".

Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 2-1 Isner*

Some lovely disguise from Kyle Edmund as Jonh Isner runs to the net but the British youngster shapes to go across court but turns the wrist over nicely and wrong foots his man.

That's 30-15 and Isner again comes to the net. You get the feeling he's thinking it's time to throw all his chips on the table here. He seems more urgent. We arrive at deuce.

The American earns a break point as Edmund finds the net, saved though as the Edmund forehand shines through. Another stunner of a forehand gives Edmund game point and he clenches the fist as the game is confirmed.

Kyle: Brilliant performance from Kyle Edmund and can see him winning the 4th 6-2. Isner has gone.

Daniel Grinsted: Come on Kyle one more set. Let's see that training with Murray paying off tonight. And I need to go bed soon!

Good stamina on show from you guys, hanging on in there. Who feels more tired, you or Isner?

Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-2 1-0 Isner*

You can see the belief coursing through Kyle Edmund now. At 40-30 he moves his body around a dropping ball and goes to his trusty forehand, fizzing it low over the net and it's good.

He flicks his wrist, shaking the racquet a few times in a show of conviction.
