Portadown driver Colin Turkington has been handed a wildcard entry for next weekend's British round of the World Touring Car championship at Donington.

The 29-year-old will be racing for German independent racing outfit Weichers-Sport in a BMW 320.

The 2009 British Touring Car champion is competing in the Scandinavian Touring Car championship and took third and fourth places in Sweden recently.

"I'm delighted to have been given this opportunity," said Turkington.

"Especially as it affords me the opportunity to race in front of my own fans on such a fantastic circuit as Donington Park."

Turkington will take his place on the grid alongside ex-Formula One drivers Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Montiero, plus current championship leader Robert Huff on Sunday 17 July.

The Northern Ireland man competed in ten races in last year's series, achieving four podiums, including a race win in Japan.
