Peter Canavan is the clear frontrunner to become the new Fermanagh football manager, BBC Sport understands.

Canavan, who captained Tyrone to the All-Ireland title in 2003, recently stepped down as Errigal Ciaran manager.

It is understood that ex-Tyrone county footballer Enda Kilpatrick and Ciaran Donnelly, who played for Fermanagh, would be part of his backroom team.

Fermanagh said the appointment of John O'Neill's successor would not be confirmed until next week.

The interview process, which is to take several days, is to begin on Thursday.
