Belfast to host Police & Fire Games

The World Police and Fire Games are to take place in Belfast in August 2013.

The biennial games are the third biggest sporting event in the world, after the Olympics and the World Cup, and more than 10,000 police officers, firefighters and prison officers are expected to travel to Northern Ireland to compete, along with as many as 15,000 supporters.

Patron of the games, Dame Mary Peters, and NI Sports Minister, Carál Ní Chuilín, expect the event to have a positive effect on the local economy and Northern Ireland's image abroad.
