Glenn Irwin is being retained by the Cumbrian-based Paul Bird Motorsport Be Wiser Ducati team for a second season in the British Superbikes series.

The 26-year-old secured two podium finishes in his first year in the championship, including a third place at the final round at Brands Hatch.

The Carrickfergus rider, who was also third at Thruxton in July, finished in 12th place overall in the championship.

Irwin will again be joined in the team by reigning BSB champion Shane Byrne.

Byrne has agreed a two-year deal with the Ducati outfit for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Irwin finished his season on a high by winning the Sunflower Trophy for the first time at Bishopscourt in October and is set to compete in the Macau Grand Prix later this month.
