Back-row forward Frankie Mariano has signed a new two-year contract with Super League club Wakefield Wildcats.

The 24-year-old joined Wakefield on a one-year deal after being released by Hull KR at the end of last season and has featured 13 times this campaign.

Mariano said: "The club gave me a chance to prove what I can do and I wanted to repay that by staying loyal and signing the contract extension.

"I'm playing some of the best rugby of my career at the moment."

Coach John Kear added: "The Wildcats are very pleased that Frankie has pledged his future to the club as a thank-you for giving him an opportunity, which it is widely acknowledged that he has taken.

"We look forward to working further with Frankie to fulfil his obvious potential and develop him into an outstanding British back-row forward."
