Denis Betts not worrying about Widnes Vikings signings

Widnes coach Denis Betts says he will not be rushed into signing players ahead of their return to Super League.

The Vikings re-join the top flight next year and have signed Australian pair Ben Cross and Hep Cahill.

Betts told BBC Radio Merseyside: "It's about holding your nerve and picking up the right people at the right time.

"It's a bit like Texas Holdem. You can't just go out and buy every front rower that's available just because they're a little bit better."

With the Crusaders deciding to withdraw their application for a Super League licence, Betts understands there will be speculation linking him with the Welsh club's top stars.

But the former Wigan and Great Britain forward insists any potential new recruits must be good for the overall environment at the Stobart Stadium.

"We have to assess our squad at the current moment and people we're looking at and bringing in and how that affects other areas," said Betts.

"If those players will benefit us as an environment, that's what counts. Quality players will stand out in a good environment.

"It's our practice, our culture, it's about the organisation, not just the players. We know where we're going."
