Harlequins centre David Howell has failed in his bid to have his six-match ban for biting an opponent overturned.

The Australian was found guilty by a Rugby Football League (RFL) disciplinary panel of biting Catalans scrum-half Remy Marginet in Quins' defeat in Perpignan on 30 July.

His appeal was thrown out by the RFL, so Howell will sit out Quins' last four matches of this campaign and the first two of next season.

The 27-year-old was also fined £300.

Howell played for St George Illawarra and Canberra Raiders in Australia's National Rugby League before joining Harlequins in 2008.
