The Rugby Football League has suspended Andy Thornley from any involvement in rugby league until 1 June, 2015 after breaching betting rules.

The 25-year-old admitted to betting on a number of matches this season, including Leigh Centurions games in which he had been playing.

Under the Rugby Football League rules, players cannot bet on any matches.

Thornley, who started his career at Wigan, also featured for Swinton Lions and North Wales Crusaders in 2014.

Halifax winger Rob Worrincy was banned for six months for a similar offence, although his suspension was increased to nine months after further evidence was heard at his appeal.

And a number of NRL players, including Manly winger David Williams, have received bans for betting on matches.
