Widnes have signed centre Charly Runciman from National Rugby League club St George Illawara until 2016.

Runciman, who has made two league appearances this season, has signed a deal through to the end of next term.

The 21-year-old played representative rugby for New South Wales under-20s and will arrive in time for the Super 8s.

"He's an out and out centre, he's a decent size, he's big and fast and has a very good character," Widnes coach Denis Betts told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"We're a little bit short at outside backs at the moment.

"We were looking at Charly to come in next year and we got the possibility of him coming over as quickly as he could. St George were fantastic in how they dealt with him."
