James Donaldson says he hopes to make Hull KR's loose forward position his own next season.

Donaldson, 24, made 21 league appearances this term after signing from Bradford in August 2014, but struggled to earn a starting role.

Current starter Tyrone McCarthy is joining NRL side St George at the end of this season, while Greg Burke will return to Wigan after a loan spell.

Donaldson targets starting role

"There will be a spot up for grabs," Donaldson told BBC Radio Humberside.

"I don't know what the coach is going to bring in, whether he's going to bring in another loose forward or someone to slot straight in there, but I want that position.

"Everyone wants to be in the starting team and actually wearing that 13 shirt."
