Coach Brad Davis puts faith in Bath youngsters

Bath coach Brad Davis believes academy fly-halves Tom Heathcote and Paul Roberts are ready for places in the first team.

Heathcote, 19, came on as a replacement for the injured Sam Vesty and kicked eight points in their 26-25 win over Leicester last Saturday.

Roberts, 22, has twice been named on the bench and came on to land a conversion against Saracens last month.

"I'm totally confident with either Tom or Paul," Davis told BBC Radio Bristol.

"What's great is that these young players are starting to push through and show not just what we've always known but show the public what a good academy set-up we've got."

Vesty is still suffering with concussion and could be absent for their Premiership clash with Wasps on Sunday, meaning Heathcote could have an opportunity for a starting place.

Youngsters are setting the standard - Davis

"Tom did what was asked of him on the field [against Leicester]," said Davis.

"We are pleased with not only the progress he is making but all the young guys that have pushed through.

"It's good to see that when these guys get an opportunity they are able to make an impact.

"You never find out how good these kids are until you put them in there. Even then you don't judge them on one performance. You take the long view of these players and their potential."

He added: "In many ways they are setting the standard for the rest of the squad."
